Watched the vid. Seems a bright young lad. Hope we get the best out of him and he gets the best from us. Especially nice to hear how impressed these players are with our facilities and cat 1 status. A long time coming.

There's been some pretty good signings in the past from Northern Ireland clubs so let's hope he follows in their footsteps. Good luck to him

Good luck Dane and welcome to Burnley.
Re: ARTICLE: Clarets land 16-year old defender from Northern Ireland
Speaking of former defenders we signed from NI, I keep seeing Curtis Woods up at the Mary Peters Track. He was a top quality 400m runner in his day and can still shift. Much better runner than he was footballer, arguably. Playing for Ballyclare Comrades (what a name), I think.

All the best Dane, you have joined the best possible club for you to develop..if you are half as good as one of your fellow countryman who played for us at left back,Alex Elder, then you will do for me.

Nice video.
Came across really well for one so young. Let’s hope he’s a star in the making. Best wishes Dane.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets land 16-year old defender from Northern Ireland
Aside from the facilities that he mentioned and how well he came across, the bit that stood out for me in the interview was his reference to there being a plan if it doesn’t work out for him at Burnley.
Putting myself in his parent’s shoes, this would be a hugely important consideration for me. Of course we all hope he makes it, but with so many not doing, having future plans in place (in or out of football) could be a key selling point for young players and their families.

He has swapped 1st team amateur football for the opportunity for being paid a decent wage whilst being taught by professional coaches and getting an excellent education. Plus the opportunity to impress and possibly get himself a professional Premier League contract in 2 years.

Signings from NI mean so much to us of course.

Are you not embarrassed by most of the rubbish you post ?
What news would it take for you to post anything positive about the club ?
To "support" a football club...any club....and feel so negative about something that you are supposed to enjoy must be a really depressing existence.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets land 16-year old defender from Northern Ireland
That’s a nice piece on him, hearing that he wasn’t the best in his group over the years, however his work rate and desire has lead to him developing , along with a good character - this is basically the Burnley mould under Dyche, start them young keep working and hopefully him along with others can develop into future stars - very few make it to the elite level but to make profit on other by selling to league 1/2 clubs potentially is also a good sign for the academy.

It was quite the opposite of negative, someone swapping first team football for our u18 squad is absolutely positive and a sign of how well our youth teams have progressed to become so attractive for youngsters willing to take a huge plunge like Dane.

Maybe someone else can explain how “sounds an exciting capture” is deemed negative?
or how is someone willing to swap first team football for our u18s a knock on our club? Surely it’s the opposite

Sorry, but the whole post reads like a sarcastic post rather than a questioning and then a supportive post. I think you are trying to rewrite your original meaning now

If you think we are daft enough to swallow that daft explanation. The thing is, we knew exactly what you meant.

He seems like a nice kid, and hoping to fulfill his ambition through hard work.
In thought Portadown came over really well, what a great gesture to produce that video.

Re: ARTICLE: Clarets land 16-year old defender from Northern Ireland
Possibly but I don’t see how this news could possibly be turned into a negative? Young kid choosing our u18 team over first team football in his home country is a remarkable step in the right direction for us.

Well I hope your popcorn is a small bag because this is my final post on this topic, I have explained what I meant if people want to assume I said something else then that’s their fault.
Pretty pathetic, still nobody has explained how it’s possible to turn this news of a young kid choosing our u18s over first team football into a negative thing, as I said, an exciting capture and a sign of progression at youth level.
