I can remember this game and QPR were the better team, with Venables running the show.
They were clearly a good side and it's hard to believe we sold them Dave Thomas and made them even better.
Surprised how low the attendance was when we were top of the league at start of play.

Venables was a very good player and surprising that he dropped into the second division as early as he did. Some good players in that team and then they added to it with Thomas and Stan Bowles. They were much better than us that day.Stan Tastic wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 1:30 pmI can remember this game and QPR were the better team, with Venables running the show.

Attendances were low so far in the season. Only the Villa game had gone much above 10,000 and that included a large Villa contingent.

With Venables and Gerry Francis they were very good. Bowles and Thomas made them even better.
But they still weren't as good as us that season.

Some other good players too in that side - Parkes, Clement and Givens for three.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 2:25 pmWith Venables and Gerry Francis they were very good. Bowles and Thomas made them even better.

Billy Roadway has never mentioned to me that he was part of an England Youth set up. Told me plenty of times of his involvement with Liverpool Schoolboys and that he was a midfielder and captain. Obvious where his loyalties lay

Modesty must have prevented him from telling you, and there was me thinking he was a typical Scouser and full of it.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 3:00 pmBilly Roadway has never mentioned to me that he was part of an England Youth set up.
