This is exactly what we've needed since the situation last June with players leaving in effect mid-season

Great news for both the lad and the club.

And soon to be fit to add to the options

Josh Brownhill, Cork, Westwood plus Benson and Stephens competing for 2 centre mid spots looks pretty healthy.

I like it that Jack Cork, with his 10 years Premier League experience, is speaking of assisting the younger players coming through into the team.

It will also give SD the chance to think about a proper 4-5-1 or 3-5-2 formation. One of the main reasons it couldn't work before was a lack of personnel skilled enough to compete when in those formations. Dwight's increasing defensive nous means he could easily do the left side of a 5. Not so sure about either JBG or Brady as the right side of a 5 though

If Brownhill & Benson can learn and replicate what Westwood & Cork have done for us then the midfield will be sorted going forward

When all central midfielders are fit it will be a great situation. Up until now Cork has been an automatic starter. He has had many good games, but also a number where he has simply been outmuscled. His great strength is like Westwood taking the ball from our back four. I think with Brownhill having played so well Cork will come back stronger and more determined, but will have to bide his time. Of course he provides great cover and can step in easily

"He might not have played this season in the first time but Jack Cork is very much valued at Turf Moor"

figure that's supposed to say team ?

Great news anyway :)

Great news! Hopefully he'll be fit very soon and add depth to what we already have available.

Great news both for player and club.
As others have said a good strong group of midfield players.

I've only just seen this news and 'I'm over the moon' in football speak. Forget the January window, JC's extension is our best piece of business 'come what may'. Happy Place, Happy place.

He’ll be like a new signing

Hopefully he can get fit and back in the squad soon.

But. If we are still relying on cork and one or two of the others come 2023 that will be worrying. Good news for now though.

It's actually weird to think we have that much competition when it wasn't all that long ago that we just had one fit CM during half a PL season in David Jones

But David Jones was outstanding for us.

We are looking stronger in midfield suddenly with Cork coming back and Benson becoming part of the first team squad.

As Paul Waine would say.... exciting times! Delighted Jack is staying and getting fitter, had the real pleasure of meeting him a few times and he really is a top bloke and loves Burnley and what it's about.

Still think we need more creativity in there.
