Two more cup ties from the 60's I recall were firstly a re-arranged 4th round tie at home to Leyton Orient on a Tuesday night in 1962. I was 9 years old but allowed to attend with older relatives. I saw it as a formality because 'banana skin' games still didn't exist in my world then. We battered the opposition but just couldn't find the net and then about 15 minutes into the 2nd half they broke away and scored down at the Beehole End( Ronnie Foster, I believe). Incessant attacking from us continued and finally 'Bomber' Harris saved our blushes with a late equaliser. A rude awakening for me that entitlement to a win did not exist.
The second of the ties was again a 4th round game in 1964 v Newport County. Again they were a team I'd only seen in a lower league table. Remember they played in bright yellow shirts( unusual back then) and I'm sure orange shorts. Their fans wore or carried daffodils. I was intrigued. We won the game 2-1 but again it told me that football did go on outside the confines of Turf Moor and the then First division.
That Newport game saw a very poor display from us - 2 goals from Willie Morgan with the 1st a real error by the County keeper. Newport played in an all amber strip (they switched to tangerine shirts in 1969), and it took a brilliant last minute save by Blacklaw to deny them what would have been a deserved replay.

He played for Stafford that day - can’t remember whether he scored or not.
I’d forgotten about the wall but rings a bell now.
My main memory is having to listen to the radio commentary bloke sat behind me for the whole of the game !
Link shows he scored early in the game - their manager had been telling us all week that he’d score although I don’t think he meant the own goal

New material required. Up the Clarets' very own version of Bernard Manning these days.
Thanks, thats quite high praise considering this messageboards demographic and the (lack of) progressive attitude of a fair chunk of its posters

Don't know if it's been mentioned but Spurs v Burnley in 3rd round 1963. Played in about 3" of snow, we played them off the park despite them trying to kick us off the same park. Beat
them 3-0. Sweet revenge for six months earlier at Wembley.

The following day the Daily Express headline was 'The shame of Spurs'.

Wonderful!

Yes I remember that but don’t think it the whole match was shown on TV but the goals were.

Derby away in '99, to win away at a Premier League ground was very special.

Also Liverpool at home in '95. Marlon Beresford was injured or suspended and Wayne Russell played surprisingly well against Collymore and Fowler (I think).

The Tottenham game in the mid sixties
Got beat 4-3 after leading 2-0
Willie scored a hat trick
Gutted at the result but what a game

Penrith, not seen many wins like that. Even though I had a minor car crash on the way and had to complete the journey by train, and i dont know if you can count almost being crushed to death at the 74 semi final as a favourite
That's the only game I've ever been to where they opened the gates of the away end at HT and you could nip to the pub just outside the ground for a pint! Also, I backed us to score 6, 7 or 8, so was gutted when the 9th went in!

Spurs 1 - Clarets 4 and that after being 1 down at HT! Might have been a league cup game that one??

Yes it was and what made the night extra special for me was that I was working a few doors along from WHL.

Next day was most enjoyable as there were more then one Spud supporter in that day.

Yep Spurs 1 - Clarets 4 was tbe Quarter Final of the Milk Cup in 1983 . We played Liverpol in the 2 legged semi. Dalglish, Hansen, Souness and all, remember Trevor Steven showing his class and Derek Scott missing two sitters at Anfield ended up losing 3-1 on agg.

At Chelsea in 1970, 2 down but we never gave up, special memories watching it unfold from the open terrace behind the goal……. a mud splattered Ralphie bursting through and Dobbo equalising….Magical.

That one against Rochdale around 1993 when Mark Monington ran half the pitch to chin that Dale lad. They kicked and fouled Johnny Francis everytime he had the ball. Not a great game but proper dirty 90s hoofer football.

Plenty to choose from. I go for a Match at Bramall Lane but not the one others have chosen. 1962 on the way to Wembley. We won 1-0.in the sixth round. In those days there was a crowd on only three sides as Yorkshire also played cricket there!!
Here you go. Shame Pointers header is covered by an ad but decent highlights.

My dad took myself and my brother down to London on the train for that game.

I think both of our goals came in the last 10 minutes?Chelsea beat us on the Turf in the replay and went on to beat Leeds at Old Trafford in the final after a draw at Wembley.

The first FA Cup game I attended, late 60s, at home to Derby. Still one of the dirtiest games I've ever seen, they set out to kick Ralph Coates off the pitch from the first minute. I think John O'Hare got sent off, possibly someone else too. From memory we won 3-1. I recall Hinton and Hector wearing white boots, first time I'd seen boots other than black.

It was 1968/69 season & you're right about the score and how dirty Derby were - however it was John Robson who was sent off, not O'Hare. We were no angels mind & after the match Brian Clough accused us of 'kicking them off the park.'

Wimbledon in the 70s 😂😝😭
There was another one about a dozen years later when we were the underdogs; I had the misfortune to watch both games in the company of the same group of Don supporting friends. They ripped the p1ss out of me, though getting tonked at Telford in about 87 was more painful, we watched that amongst the locals too.
