Wrexham
on the back of the Tik Tok sponsorship they have now announced Phil Parkinson as their new manager ! Surprised he's dropped to that level given he has 3 promotions on his CV ! Good appointment I would say

I love that Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reylonds own Wrexham.
Rob McElhenney is responsible for my all time favourite TV show. Good luck to them!

Re: Wrexham
I am wary that a traditional football club is being used as a media vehicle, the media element is what the investment is about, It may be god for a few years but I prefer to look long term especially for a club that has been around as long as WrexhamClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 3:52 pmI love that Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reylonds own Wrexham.

Yeh they’ve been really successful for the past decade or so under their previous owners.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 4:14 pmI am wary that a traditional football club is being used as a media vehicle, the media element is what the investment is about, It may be god for a few years but I prefer to look long term especially for a club that has been around as long as Wrexham

Re: Wrexham
that is not the point - the club was bought to be a central part of a media production venture, owning the club gives them absolute control of the production - and that is fundamentally the wrong way to view a club that is central to a towns historySteve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 4:22 pmYeh they’ve been really successful for the past decade or so under their previous owners.

Re: Wrexham
When Wrexham were relegated I always thought they would be one who would bounce back very quickly. They are now awaiting their 14 consecutive season of non-league football. So as you say, hardly successful.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 4:22 pmYeh they’ve been really successful for the past decade or so under their previous owners.

Is Wrexham FC really central to the towns history?

only 4 seasons out of their entire history above tier 3 .. just maybe these fellas might give them some hope ,I’m guessing they don’t enjoy the cross border trips to Solihull et al ?Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 4:29 pmthat is not the point - the club was bought to be a central part of a media production venture, owning the club gives them absolute control of the production - and that is fundamentally the wrong way to view a club that is central to a towns history

Are Tik Tok sponsoring everyone now? Surprised there's not been a thread on out deal with them.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 3:51 pmon the back of the Tik Tok sponsorship they have now announced Phil Parkinson as their new manager ! Re: Wrexham
Late 70s & early 80s I think. We played them in the old second division in 78/79 & 79/80 before we went down.Thehistoryteacher wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 4:46 pmonly 4 seasons out of their entire history above tier 3 .. just maybe these fellas might give them some hope ,I’m guessing they don’t enjoy the cross border trips to Solihull et al ?

Re: Wrexham
Yes 78/9 to 81/2 .. and here comes today’s useless bit of trivia
We knocked them out of the League Cup in 80/1 - both legs were played before the season started - one of the very rare occasions when we wore our Yellow change kit at home … I have a press photo from the game somewhere

Re: Wrexham
Always thought they had potential. When doing well, they could attract a decent fan base.
They certainly had a few on the Turf for that big FA Cup game back in the 70s.

Re: Wrexham
It's a breath of fresh air and Wrexham fans will be loving it. Wish we could get that kind of calibre at the Dandy Dons rather than the succession of duds we've had to suffer for the last 30years

Re: Wrexham
It used to be the rule in the FA Cup that both would change - but it didn’t always happen by any means . In the 1950s we wore Navy shirts and Black shorts at Villa who wore Birmingham’s Red change kit I’ve got a photo of that one tooBordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 6:39 pmSo what the reason behind the two kit changes at home?
The League Cup tie I’ve honestly no idea but I suspect the kit hadn’t arrived as we wore White for a home ASC tie with Shrewsbury

Mixed feeling about Wrexham
Some great memories from visits there
Like to see the teams who were in the 92 when I started watching footy retain or regain their status
Not keen on Welsh clubs in an English league especially with the Welsh FA and it’s dodgy history

Re: Wrexham
There was a big fall out between Wrexham and Bob Lord ahead of that cup tie so when it came to kits they wouldn't, as most clubs would, agree to us wearing our home kit. I think the only other time I can recall that was against Everton in 1962 when we wore white and they wore yellow.Thehistoryteacher wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 6:18 pmYes another day for our change kit too .. Re: Wrexham
The fall out with Mr Lord was over the TV coverage I think. Lord was always extremely vociferous in his opposition to TV cameras at football (whether it be highlights or live matches) as he believed that if football was available on tele nobody would bother to get off their sofas and actually pay money to go to games. He banned the BBC from filming the Wrexham cup tie which seriously upset the BBC and the Wrexham camp, but he was using the opportunity to make his point. It's extremely ironic because on the surface his argument against TV coverage at matches does (or rather DID) seem to hold water, yet many years later SKY came along and using TV coverage have totally transformed the game, poured billions of pounds into it and at the same time huge crowds still turn out and in some cases travel long distances to watch the matches live.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 1:29 pmThere was a big fall out between Wrexham and Bob Lord ahead of that cup tie so when it came to kits they wouldn't, as most clubs would, agree to us wearing our home kit. Re: Wrexham
He had a fall out with the TV companies but his initially fall out with Wrexham was refusing their request to play some Welsh music before the game.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 1:40 pmThe fall out with Mr Lord was over the TV coverage I think.
