I hope the new signage behind the goals is reinforced, in anticipation of his crosses.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Means Christie isnt coming, so has saved us a few more quid too.

Believe the club wanted to put some distance between us and the club with the next closest average age.
Presumably he’s ripened into the player he wasn’t two seasons ago when he barely started a game.

Pretty desperate stuff I think we can all agree.
Nevertheless, I wish him the best of luck! Hopefully he can teach the younger players a lot over the coming year.

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
Terrible signing but not unexpected. He was bang average the first time round and age won't have improved that.
Every other team bloods youngsters and we resign our pension age ex players.

No problem with this signing, makes a lot of sense.
Played well enough in his first spell despite what the usual suspects on here keep spouting (probably never seen him play more than a few minutes on tv).

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
I’m guessing the young lads who are training with the first team squad are nowhere near the standard or we wouldn’t be signing him to be our fourth choice winger (assuming he is coming in on that basis and not as next in line).clarethomer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 6:37 pmWelcome back - hope he is able to make a positive contribution to the club and also with the younger players coming through.

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
Not one to set the juices flowing. But Dyche clearly rates him and it seems that he may have been on a mini trial and must have impressed. A good squad filler but some genuine quality still required.
Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
He's only training with is to get fit...
Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
Peculiar signing. How odd depends on what happens over the coming days. Timing of the announcement suggests he starts tonight

I didn't rate him first time round and I can only hope he's here as a bench warmer as he won't pull up any trees when playing.

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
It’s an option off the bench, more than we had. I can’t say it’s a move I’d have made, but on the proviso we’re bringing in a serious signing out wide (Cornet), he is a backup/squad option to save us playing Pieters, Brownhill etc out there if we get an injury or suspension.

3 assists in 30 PL games (when he was younger) suggests he ain’t all that.

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
Really not a good signing this one, I’m afraid.
Average age up. Just pushes the problems in the squad on another year.

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
I hasn’t realised just how little he contributed during his spell until I just looked. Several sites reporting one PL goal and three assists in two and a half years.
I know our style doesn’t necessarily see wingers flourish in terms of attacking statistics, but that’s a very poor return.

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
No surprise after playing in the friendlies. I thought he was much better in his last spell than some seem to think and it appears the manager does too.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 6:47 pmIt’s an option off the bench, more than we had. I like Lennon. Even at 34, he would still be the fastest player on the team. He would be a useful late sub, fresh quick legs to close down players and put in a defensive shift.

McNeil, by comparison has had 16 assists in 98 PL appearances, JBG 17 assists in 134 PL appearances.agreenwood wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 6:54 pmI hasn’t realised just how little he contributed during his spell until I just looked. Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
It bolsters the squad and gives us more options out wide
But its not what we need is it?
Its just about okay if we boost the squad before the end of the deadline, but if not, then its very poor indeed

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
Meh - less meh with a couple more proper signings.
Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
Well, hopefully it works out on the pitch and it's a one year deal. Not like he really had us over the barrel at the negotiating table I wouldn't imagine.
While he's not an exciting signing for the future, he's better then several keepers and under 18s on the bench which I always wonder half jokingly I'll see when I look at the team sheet.

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
And there was me thinking he was only here to train, you know, like David Jones did. How silly of me.

I'm amazed he was with us for two and a half years. It definitely didn't feel like that.agreenwood wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 6:54 pmI hasn’t realised just how little he contributed during his spell until I just looked. Several sites reporting one PL goal and three assists in two and a half years.

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
Desperate role of the dice or sensible kicking of the can down the street for another 12 months?
Hard to tell but if we bring Cornet in then it'll be much more palatable.

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
that was the boards decision not Dyche's
I'll always support someone who gives their all and one thing you can't accuse Lennon of is slacking off, his defensive work was always good. Clearly, we all hope he can help more going the other way and whilst I have my reservations, should Cornet sign we potentially have pace on both wings which is something we've not had since Ted McMinn

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
I'm OK with this if its not the end of our business. I thought he did ok first spell and we definitely could have done with him last season.
As an option from the bench it's a cheap fix and I'm OK with that.

Re: ARTICLE: Lennon back with the Clarets
Don't post sense on this thread when all the usual suspects can't wait to bash the club, and yes as a useful back-up option, and someone who knows how the system works, signing Lennon on a short-term basis is sensible given our present situation, ideally we'd get a younger winger, and we may will do in Cornet, so if we sign both then I can live with re-signing Lennon as a useful squad addition, although it wouldn't have been my ideal choice either, but we need players who can make a contribution straight away, so in that sense I'm not surprised we've brought him back.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 6:47 pmIt’s an option off the bench, more than we had. The club can't win with some posters, we need bodies in the squad, and if we can't afford splashing out £5-10m for the likes of Christie or others, then as a stopgap Aaron Lennon is a relatively cheap signing to make.

Welcome back, Aaron Lennon.
Pleased you are back at t'Turf.
There's a 39 year old Burnley lad not doing too badly across in Leeds today. OK, different sport. No reason why Sean Dyche's judgement on Aaron Lennon's ability to contribute to the squad should be wrong.
