Duff deserves his chance at a bigger club, he's done a terrific job at Cheltenham, but he'd probably taken them as far as he could.

The people suggesting he was only a candidate for our manager because he played for us were well wide of the mark:

He's started with youths, progressed to reserve/U23 team manager and then took over at a struggling club before turning them round and bringing them unprecedented success.

Hope all goes well for Duff at Barnsley. Did an excellent job at Cheltenham and he will probably do the same at Barnsley if the board give him a decent chance.

Duff was my first choice for our recent managerial vacancy. You can certainly see the high esteem in which he's held at Cheltenham with those comments from their chairman. I think he'll do a great job at Barnsley and wish him all the best. Perhaps he'll still be Burnley manager one day although for now, I'm just hoping for Kompany is a big success for us.

One thing that intrigues me with managerial appointments is their preferred style of play.
Where does it come from ?
Will Duffs style have been nutured by Stan or Owen ?
If Ben Mee becomes a manager , will his style of play be similar to Dyche ?
It looks like VKs style will be influenced by Pep.
Is this because they played that style or is it because they actually believe that is the way forward.

Duff went to Cheltenham and went 442 in the Dyche style but he didn’t have the players to fit into it and they were struggling. So he went three at the back and it worked.

But there has still been a lot of Dyche in the way he works, even down to having gaffer’s day in preseason.

Once more bodies come through the door, Barnsley could be a good destination on loan for the likes of Richardson, Max Thompson etc if they aren't a part of our squad this year

Hope he does well and will look out for his results

I was always surprised that we didn’t get players out to such as Cheltenham & Fleetwood when Duff & Barton we’re there other than Jimmy Dunne going to Fleetwood. I know Joey tried to get Dwight McNeil on loan in summer 2018 but was turned down.

That link is no longer there with Dyche not at Burnley though.

I think he said he operates with Dyche values but rings Cotterill up for tactics.

Really good step up for him and one he needed before potentially managing here.

Cotterill was massive for him. He was the manager who gave him his opportunity at Cheltenham and then gave him the chance at Burnley.

I also heard that Eddie Howe recommended the training tops Duff used at Cheltenham

The reason managers keep or sign that sort of player is they know they can play that way, so it’s already sort of build into them. No surprise they go on to manage in a similar way

When he retired as a player and took the u18s at Burnley, a friend of mine who worked in the academy said he was like a breath of fresh air. I had a couple of chats with him during that season and he really impressed me.

Then I watch that press conference. Barnsley have got themselves a really good man.

Completely agree, CT. I have long been advocating him as a potential Burnley FC manager and he was my first choice. Some day perhaps! I'm convinced he'll be a success. Did a fantastic job at Cheltenham with no budget and I have a feeling he'll get everyone pulling in the same direction at Barnsley too.
