At least Jack Grealish won't be available, no chance of him sobering up by then.
Re: ARTICLE: Treble winners and Sky at Burnley on opening night
First two games are against teams that have played us in our new guise. That's a disadvantage for us I would say.

It’s a Friday night in the middle of the school holidays against the best team in the world. Let the lad go.HalifaxClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 9:33 amBit of a kick in the teeth for those with young kids who had to miss so many home matches last season due to them being moved to Friday nights only to have the same happen again opening weekend.
I purposely delayed our holiday until after the first 2 match day weekends so that my lad could see the first match at home. Now he will miss the first 2.

I’ll have that as a negative, I missed lots last year around holidays, but the post seemed to infer a different reason.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 11:43 amWell I assume that having 3 and possibly 4 home games during the school holidays is quite a negative if you've shelled out for a family ticket and could now miss several games due to holidays.
I'm retired so will now plan my holidays around the fixtures, (so far as is possible with TV switches), but a lot of people could now miss two or three games rather than the odd one.

We have to play Man City sometime and we may be a bit of an unknown quantity depending on new signings.

I know what your saying Jedi but realistically I'm not going off my experience from the Dyche era, im going off my experience in football in my lifetime, I know the league can throw the odd curveball but id be surprised if at least 5 of those teams from the first 9 games don't feature in the top 8 come the end of the season. Only time will tell.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 9:28 amI think it's largely pointless predicting games we will pick up points from, as we're all doing so based on our historical experience of this league (mainly the Dyche era of course).
We have a team who play in a completely different way to any of the teams that we have previously deployed in this division, and have no real idea how Kompany's tactical game will play out against these sides. City are a freak of nature, so I will (personally) discount that game from my mind, I always do. I wouldn't put it past us to beat any of the other teams at home in the right circumstances because we create a lot of chances, are comfortable retaining possession and the manager is someone who will demand that we attack regardless of the opposition. What has gone before is almost useless to analyse with because of how different we are.

I f#%^#%g hate Friday night football.
I suppose we'll have to get used to it, that the majority of our TV dates will be Friday or Monday nights.
The fixtures don't look balanced, a lot of difficult early home fixtures, is balanced, because it means somewhere we'll have an easier run, but it brings the danger of having to play catch up.
If we can get off to an average start, it will set us up for a really good finish.
Let's bring Hell to the Turf.

Heard a rumour that if you went Luton away last season you cant apply this season?
Not that Im bitter about the one game I missed out on last season

Re: ARTICLE: Treble winners and Sky at Burnley on opening night
COMEONELADS CITY WON'T KNOW WHAT'S COMING!!! They'll be over-confident coming off the treble, we'll be hungry to prove ourselves — especially playing at home, teams will take time to work us out, Benny will cause them all sorts of problems, Kompany is a football genius — the next Pep — I can honestly totally see the score line being kept below 3-0. So I'll goooooooowiiiiiiiith....2-0 City. That'll fukin show 'em.

Re: ARTICLE: Treble winners and Sky at Burnley on opening night
Sat here on a roof in Tenerife and just opened BBC app in a moment of sheer idleness. My first thought was ‘oh FFS you couldn’t write it’. But applying a little positivity to that opening game I started to think it’s not bad. First off as has been said it gets a City game out the way. Second we don’t tend to get hammered by them at home...that pleasure is usually reserved for the Etihad. Third is the fact that it could be the best time cos City do have a bit of a habit of getting out of the traps a bit sluggish. I’m not being over hopeful but it would be great to be 3 points ahead of them at one point in the season. And we don’t know yet who we are going to sign, and maybe Vinny has a plan.
Anyway it’s back to staring at the incredible mountains behind us and relaxing. Maybe Burnley have a mountain of their own next season but let’s assume it can be done, after all there’s Luton, Sheffield Utd and Everton plus a few others, not everyone is City.

Yesterday on Tony's warning thread I posted - with no knowledge just a little cynicism - that we would get 4 of the "big six" in our first 6 games, ( the post got removed I guess for breaching the warning) . I was wrong we got 4 of the "big six" in our first seven games!!

If Lutons ground isn't ready we could switch the fixture
Play at home first

Re: ARTICLE: Treble winners and Sky at Burnley on opening night
If I remember rightly from when we swapped fixtures with Liverpool a few years back, it could only be done because Burnley agreed to it. I think we had the right to just postpone it.

Re: ARTICLE: Treble winners and Sky at Burnley on opening night
At the end of the day, we have to play all the other teams in the division twice, home and away. And we can't judge how this season is going to pan out based off our last spell in the Prem - different manager, style of football, etc... However, I think the 1st four games are good markers to start off with and we will know a lot more about our squad by the end of this quartet of games and if we can make that step up to the Prem. What are the odds of having our first four games at home if Luton's ground is not ready on time? Need to be aiming for at least 6 - 8 points from that first group of games I think.

There isn't a good time to play them I don't think but they tend to be like a juggernaut in the final few months of the season so playing them twice by the end of January is better than playing them late in the season.Claretmutt wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 8:09 pmHow come some on here think playing Man City

Precisely, this is the sh1t we signed up for the moment we got promoted, after city it’ll be move on to the next 1, but there will be games which will yield points amongst the mid to lower cluster.houseboy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 1:13 pmSat here on a roof in Tenerife and just opened BBC app in a moment of sheer idleness.
