Nice long contract and no doubt a very chunky release clause inserted.

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
I'd think so but it means no one gets him on the cheap which I'm sure they might have been able to do with the previous contract given his lack of experience when he signed. Hard to believe really that he's still just 22.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 1:52 pmNice long contract and no doubt a very chunky release clause inserted.

Defo "protecting the asset" this one!
Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
Good business. The lad gets a wage bump. We get protection in the transfer market. I suspect there will be a release fee pre agreed now.
Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
Excellent news.
Out of curiously, how long does Benson have left? I’d be delighted if we could tie him up to a long term deal as well.

Just looking through the squad list and we've got a lot of players now on contracts for a further three, four and five years.

He did fade slightly in the second half of the season, but that’s only because he set a ridiculously high level in the first half of the season.
Can’t wait to see what he does this year!

I don’t think going off to the World Cup helped him but prior to that he really was outstanding.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 3:36 pmHe did fade slightly in the second half of the season, but that’s only because he set a ridiculously high level in the first half of the season.

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
I think a lot of that had to do with THB being out too. The diagonals that Anass controlled and run with were becoming a bit of a trade mark move.
Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
Been in the back of my mind for a while but with all the rumoured wingers. I wonder if there's any chance we feel Zaroury could benefit from a season on loan before he's ready for premier league football.
I think it's an unpopular opinion but the likes of Redmond and Townsend (if he signs) may be our two best wide options currently.
And we could still have incomings out wide with Daramy, Odebert, Tresor and others rumoured. And we've already signed the young lad who looks like he has some ability and pace to burn.
For me Zaroury still needs a bit of strength and consistency, he's one of the better technical players we have but not got the raw pace that we seem to be looking for, so that extra bit of strength would be very beneficial. That will come with a bit of time but I do wonder if we'll struggle to afford that this season in the premier league.

Great deal, the lad has the potential to reach the heights of Hazard in his prime.
Will turn out to be a good investment for the club in a couple of years

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
Would you care to elaborate with any sort of debate? I have not suggested that my own personal preference would be for him to go on loan however I can't see if we sign a tresor or a damary how he'll feature enough to develop.
Do you think Zaroury is a better player than Redmond? He has all the potential to be and I think after last season most clarets would have him down starting but trying to take off the claret tinted specs you would expect Redmond, at 29 in his peak, with experience already in the premier league, to be the better player right now would you not?
I then look at the signings and probably attributes we are looking at to counter effectively next season and it looks like pace is something we are trying to inject. Zaroury looks to have a little less than kolieshio, damary and tresor.
When kompany spoke about what we were building he never expected us up to go first time round and I think quite a lot of the team we have would benefit from the extra season in the championship to develop. It is a big gap from championship to premier League football in terms of physicality, pace and everything else. Let's not forget a lot of this team are 23 and younger and still developing.
I think it could be beneficial for Zaroury to have a loan somewhere to build strength and consistency as he has a big future ahead of him. I am not advocating it but I also find it hard to believe that all of our players from last season are just going to be able to cut it at premier league level next season.
Benson I am quietly confident about, he has the pace to continue what he is doing.
Zaroury lacks the pace so needs to add some more strength to his game imo to operate at a higher level. Time will tell.

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
Good news, another player who enjoys being at the club, can only be a boon for all the team to have internationals in the squad.
Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
Zaroury and Benson would still be my two preferred wide men, regardless of the new incomings.

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
Conroy makes some great points. It’s a massive step up to the Prem and Zaroury went missing at times last season - completely understandable as he’s young and playing in a really inconsistent position.
I don’t think he should go on loan though. I think we should have 3 options on each side to compensate for injuries and loss of form which will inevitably happen.

Imo I think zaroury would be a great number 10, he moved inside I think it was the West Brom game at home when we where chasing it a little bit and set up Tellas equaliser with a great through ball. I’m sure when we signed him he had been playing more centrally to

He suffered a loss of form after Christmas but the suggestion of sending out on loan was crazy talk. Just bench him if he needs a rest.Vino blanco wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 7:05 pm"Zaroury could benefit from a season on loan"....I've read some nonsense on here but that ranks alongside "Benson is like a dog with a balloon" comment as absolute stupidity.
Imagine needing a goal this coming season and wanting to bring him on for the last 20 minutes then realising he’s out on loan at the New York Stadium.

Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
I wouldn't be surprised if the coaches are working with him on becoming a No 10.
Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
Ok boss. Lunatic opinion, 58 minutes so far. We operate a policy in which we need to develop players to sell for a profit. Would have been the perfect time for a season on loan while we're stocked with wingers.
Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
Ok. You may have been right, you may have been wrong. Looks like VK disagreed with you anyway, unless there were no options to send him out on loan, which seems unlikely.
The point I was making, though, is that AZ’s failure to make the squad tonight is hardly justification for your taking a victory lap and calling everyone who disagreed with you “belms”
Re: ARTICLE: New deal for Zaroury
Agreed somewhat, the victory lap, was not necessary. However it's posters calling my opinion lunatic and making out that someone else's opinion is mad I'm specifically targeting. Maybe I should have made that a little clearer. Occasionally it's nice to give one back to posters who think other people's opinions are crazy because they differ with there own.Greenmile wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 7:03 pmOk.
