Jack Wiltshire (again)

Post by expoultryboy » Thu Oct 28, 2021 11:03 am

At present our midfield is lacking in any creativity which is isolating our forwards . Wiltshire is without a club , training with Arsenal and desperate to get back to playing . He's only 29 and with his injury history couldn't we try and get him on a pay as you play contact ? His presence (imo) , would work well in a 3-5-2 formation or a 4-2-3-1 system .

How about Jack Wilshere lads, how do you think he’d fare?

I'm not against it seen as we're happy to spaff money on the likes of Lennon anyway.

That said, there must be some reason that Wilshere is either not entertaining offers from elsewhere or just not getting offers. Seems strange that he prefers the dole queue to drawing a wage in MLS, league 1 / 2.

I’m not sure if he is. He’s got good vision, or he had but with his lack of pace I really don’t think he’s any better than what we have. We need someone in the mould of Barkley. I think our lack of pace and mobility generally is currently our downfall.

Why not? Desperate times call for desperate measures: he is better than what we have.

I’d also be concerned about his injury situation and whether he could do 90 minutes on a regular basis. I’d rather look for some younger legs with an engine.

NO.

Under no circumstances.

Our recruitment this summer shows the way forward. We need something in midfield but he is absolutely NOT the answer. We need an influx of youth and energy. We look tired and sluggish. His body, whether you rate his football or not, cannot deal with what is required.

Arsenal are in a desperate state. They are seeing him on a daily basis and are still not interested. They're plum average and still don't want him. There's your answer.

Are you seriously comparing our midfield to arsenals?

Our midfield is bottom end championship standard. The point is we can’t get anyone else until January. Wilshere could sign today and play at the weekend.

In that case he is a definite improvement so even if it’s just a 9 month contract we should take him on

Pity we did not move for Will Hughes before he went to Palace. Big improvement on Cork, still got the legs and loads of experience. He wasnt expensive either

There is probably a valid reason he is currently without a Club.

At any level for those who maybe hadn't realised.

I'd forgotten he went to Palace.
Yet to make an appearance for them, I'd be tempted to try and loan him in January

He hasn't played much since then either, 1000 mins in total.
He only played 35 mins for West Ham in 2020 and left them in the summer of 2020
The rest at Bournemouth after joining them in Jan 21, predominantly as a sub.

If he is such a good bet for us as a Premier League club, can anyone explain why he doesn't have a club?

As for pay as you play - does anyone think players are on such contracts?

he would walk into our midfield. We need someone who can pass and create, surely worth getting him in to train with us with a view to signing. Nothing lost in having a look at him, better than at least 2 of our midfield options

Only premier league clubs and top championship teams can afford him.

None of them need a CM as desperately as we do

Wilshere made nine starts for Bournemouth in the Championship last season and finished only one game.

Bournemouth did not want to sign him again and they had a look at him all last season, they seem to be doing quite well this year without Wilshere.

Players are on a minimal base wage, that’s heavily weighted with playing time, contributions (coaching and playing), and the usual playing incentives.

I think he would be a great player to have in and around the squad, both for knowledge and morale. I don’t think he’d start games. He’s not able to work as Dyche would want a midfield two to do. BUT, I’d have him for the last fifteen minutes in every game. He’s a magician that needs premier league players to work with.

Jack Wilshire, undoubtedly was a talented youngster. Injuries have sadly have taken their toll. Not been at any level of performance for years, would probably burn his hand carrying Westys brew. If he wants to carry on playing football at any level, he needs to get Ravel Morrison’s agent.

Forget JW-if we signed him he would not be considered by SD until he was "acclimatised" for at least 3 months

Instead we should be working 24 hours a day to target a CM and a striker for the January window. We then need to look at the top clubs like Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool to see what CM and striker we could loan as well. With players like Sancho unable to get a start, there will be a whole regiment of very promising youngsters desperate to play in the PL.You only have to look at James and Gallagher of Chelsea, and how brilliant they played on loan. Tomori and Mount art Derby were outstanding. Also Harvey Elliott of Liverpool was on loan at Blackburn-surely anything they can do we should be able to better.Get two on loan, and buy two so you have some competition , then ease out some of the deadwood thats drawing a wage from the club. They will soon get the message about renewing contracts

Dunno, they're a league below for a reason and no one seems to have rushed to buy them from what I saw.

Are Collins, Cornet and Roberts old, slow and injury prone?

Philip Billing mentioned above feels like the one that got away. We were strongly linked when Huddersfield got relegated but according to some reports he didn't pass the 'fit and proper' test

Shame if true from a purely footballing perspective appears to tick all of our required boxes

What are you basing that on? Wilshere’s performances 5 years ago?

I’d say Wilshere is exactly the kind of has-been we should avoid signing given the issues that we already have.

Don’t take my word for it though. The opinions that really matter are the managers who have chosen not to sign him since Championship Bournemouth decided he wasn’t worth another contract.

Let’s not forgot he was also completely ignored in the summer of 2020 too.

Basing it on his performances at Bournemouth. I started a thread on Wilshere last year after watching him play really well for them.

Bournemouth have fantastic CMs they don’t need any other ones

Let’s not pretend Wilshere’s wage demands are likely to be a hurdle for anyone either. He’s been getting £0 a week for much of the last two seasons of his career.

If anyone who has scouted/analyses his performances really believed he was worth a contract in the top two tiers of English football, he’d have a club by now.

So he played really well for them and they released him? And then loads of football clubs with scouts and analysts coming out of their ears ignored these high level performances and allowed him to sit on the scrap heap for another 6 months?

Aye.

Bournemouth have better CMs than we do
What about all the other Championship clubs that haven't signed him?
