Southampton pushing for Jan signings to be unavailable for rearranged games
Not sure if this will have any chance at all but Southampton are pushing to have all signings that are made this month to be made unavailable for the rearranged games from last month.
Totally unfair on us as it wasn’t our fault but definitely useful against teams that manipulated it.

I agree with them and I would go as far as to say that any players who were actually injured (not just the topical sniffle) at the time of the original game should also be ineligible but that wont wash either

I do so hope this comes to fruition, then I can lol at Newcastle Arabia.
Re: Southampton pushing for Jan signings to be unavailable for rearranged games
It will never happen.
Re: Southampton pushing for Jan signings to be unavailable for rearranged games
Should be the case. And also include anyone they declared injured in order to get the game called off. Only players ruled out by covid should be eligible. The PL will know who was "injured" and who was a covid case so would be easy to implement.

That'd be great but what happens if they have an injured player that was available for the game originally but can't play on the rescheduled date. It's not going to happen.

It really should happen, but not a chance, it would mean being fair to all the clubs, not just the favored ones.

To me, this just means that Southampton aren't buying anyone.

Don’t think it’s an unreasonable request at all to be honest, a bit like being cup tied for a cup competition, if you weren’t available for the original fixture you should not be available for selection…. However knowing the premier league who have failed to investigate suspicious goings on in terms of games being called off in the first place, there’s no chance they’ll get this passed.

Ralph Hasenhüttl and Saints keep going up in my estimation

He is quite right to be upset as Newcastle could have 5 or more new players available for their rearranged fixtures. These postponements for limp reasons have completely distorted everything. The Premier League should have either cancelled all fixtures or insisted on Clubs fielding a side.

I'm going to hold out on voicing my opinion until it's confirmed that we won't be making any signings.

Hypothetically do you think if the Premier league gets more shambolic this season could be declared null and void by a majority vote ? Unlikely but the teams near the bottom including Newcastle could vote for it as next season they will want European football, those near the top could vote for it as apart from City they would feel given a more normal season they could be champions,in the champions league or in Europe, a cosy group in the middle would want to play on. Who knows it might be good practice for when they want a closed shop anyway.

Could that scenario actually even come to pass?, what precisely would the grounds be for nulling and voiding the season?bfcjg wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 7:58 pmHypothetically do you think if the Premier league gets more shambolic this season could be declared null and void by a majority vote ? I can certainly see the attraction for several PL clubs, Burnley included to get the season scrubbed, but as it wasn't annulled in the initial phase of the pandemic I honestly can't see it happening this time.
It would be hilarious to see just to witness the melt down for our near neighbours as their dreams of a PL return are thwarted, but for the integrity of the game if at all possible the season should be played to a conclusion.
And although we might be one of the ones to benefit, the thought of a closed shop PL would be the death knell for the game as far as I'm concerned.
OK It's not ideal being in the bottom 3, but at least we have something to play for, whereas in a league with no relegation we and many others would simply be playing to complete our fixture list, as there's no realistic prospect of us challenging for Europe, never mind winning the title.

Re: Southampton pushing for Jan signings to be unavailable for rearranged games
The problem with this is obvious, in that it would set a precedent:
What if a load of December games in a future season were called off due to snow?
What if we weren't allowed to plat Spurs with new players for instance?

It would only serve precedent if there was another pandemic which most scientists reckon come around every 100 years.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 8:49 pmThe problem with this is obvious, in that it would set a precedent:

We'd benefit but it is unprecedented times.

If the season was null and void everyone would have to pay back all the tv money. Can’t see many clubs being able to afford that.bfcjg wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 7:58 pmHypothetically do you think if the Premier league gets more shambolic this season could be declared null and void by a majority vote ?
