Good luck to him, hope he makes it a success.
Re: ARTICLE: Weghorst back in England with Manchester United
Have we made any extra money out of this loan deal?

Hope he scores at least twice in every game for them....We could make quite a few million quid profit on him in June.
Re: ARTICLE: Weghorst back in England with Manchester United
It’s an incredible move for him. Will be interesting to see what happens in the summer.

One of the stranger episodes in the history of BFC.
Re: ARTICLE: Weghorst back in England with Manchester United
Assume we have made £2.7 million
Repaid loan fee to the Turks which maybe due to currency changes is £100k less than what they paid in Euros to us in the summer

Best thing for us is he does well at Utd, then we just might get our money back on him.

Re: ARTICLE: Weghorst back in England with Manchester United
I genuinely wish him well. It’s good for us if he does well at Utd, they’ll either want him permanently or it’ll generate interest from other clubs. The final option of course is he stays with us after doing well and becomes a cult legend

So we are no better or worse off than if he’d stayed at Besiktas but he’s playing for one of the biggest clubs in world football in the most watched league. It sets it up well for the summer. Good move all round.

Re: ARTICLE: Weghorst back in England with Manchester United
A move I don’t think anyone saw coming, but I hope he makes a real success of it there. If there’s no buy option included, he could be worth big money in the market to us this summer should he notch 8-10 goals at a club like United.
Re: ARTICLE: Weghorst back in England with Manchester United
Of corse he could be a bench warmer for most games
Re: ARTICLE: Weghorst back in England with Manchester United
Fair play to the bloke, he’s certainly looked after his career and got the best out of it. Arrives in the prem making sure he can leave the team he’s signing for if they go down to keep him on his international manager’s radar. That move keeps him on the radar and earns him a place in the Dutch World Cup squad. Gets about 30 minutes at the World Cup but grabs the opportunity with both hands scoring two goals against the eventual world champions. That 30 minutes is probably what prompts the interest from United and he’s back in the Premier League at one of the ‘big six’.

Re: ARTICLE: Weghorst back in England with Manchester United
Said on another thread... Good luck to him. If he does well, chances of us getting our money back on him increase (Besiktas' option wasn't worth much to us - the option was in their favour so was basically a maximum purchase price and didn't guarantee us anything). If he doesn't go particularly well then we'll have him back a bit more Premier League hardened.
In addition, we've done United a favour here and given our updated transfer strategy, its more in our interests than ever to forge good relationships with United and similar clubs.
For all those reasons this is very much in our interests. Pretty sure he'll suit United's 433 system better than the 442 he came into last season, just as he'd suit VKs system better. He's a classic Dutch forward and thrives with players running in behind him from wide and/or the 10 position. He wasn't going to replace the channel runs Wood made and we didn't have the mobility coming from behind him to play to his strengths.

I think he will be a sensational signing. I think he will signal the end of Martial at Manchester United.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 9:31 pmAm I the only one who thinks that this completely bonkers by manure? Certainly be interesting.

I’m still keen to see him back in a Burnley shirt and hopefully that’ll be next season. More experience for him at that level can bode well for us if we go up. Assuming Utd won’t want to keep him permanently, I think he’ll get the chance to play for us next season in the Prem.

No you’re not. I’m having field day with a Man U fan that I know. I’m off to the New Forest today to see if I can spot anymore donkeys that might be worth a punt.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 9:31 pmAm I the only one who thinks that this completely bonkers by manure? No risk option for Man United. Works for all three parties.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 8:52 amNo you’re not. I’m having field day with a Man U fan that I know. I’m off to the New Forest today to see if I can spot anymore donkeys that might be worth a punt.

Nope.
Poor man's Crouch.
And a bad egg.
Re: ARTICLE: Weghorst back in England with Manchester United
Not like he's going to be a regular. As a squad man I don't think he's a bad option.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 9:31 pmAm I the only one who thinks that this completely bonkers by manure? Certainly be interesting.

Re: ARTICLE: Weghorst back in England with Manchester United
We made an extra £100k - neither here no there but not insignificant.
But my guess is that the main reason we did the deal is with an eye to what could happen at the end of the season.
Weghorst stays at Beskitas they have an unhappy player on their hands - to the extent he could possibly have refused to play. Then no shop window for other clubs to buy him and little or no chance Beskitas buy him at the end of the season.
He moves to United - he is in shop window and if he does well or even ok there is chance someone buys him. If he does poorly then we are probably in no worse position than if he would have forced him to stay at Beskitas.
The most unlikely outcome was that Weghorst was happy to lose out on a dream move to United and went back to Beskitas to carry on playing well and scoring.
So on balance we made the decision that we thought would potentially give us the best outcome at the end of this season.
Of course the real winner out of all this is the player - but then it usually is.

Re: ARTICLE: Weghorst back in England with Manchester United
Agree with Claretspice to an extent. Definitely a good striker.
He may also be more effective in VK’s system.
However, I don’t think he fits the VK philosophy because he thinks he’s too big for our club. Having scored twice against Argentina and now playing for United won’t really help.
But certainly I hope he convinces United to sign him so we can profit from that.

Excellent move for Man U - they’ll be a different side with a centre forward - and may turn out well for us in future
