He's been hit and miss in the Premier League but I'd definitely be up for him on loan for a season, possibly with Weghorst going the other way I wonder? Kompany will know what he's all about and he's done it at the highest level, scored at the World Cup last year.

I thought he would do well at Palace but he didn't really. He's now 29 - not so old - but I'm not sure he is for us.Cap wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 3:53 pmhttps://twitter.com/Ekremkonur/status/1 ... IRTAg&s=19

He had something about him when he was younger. Now I’m not so sure. Maybe he is one of those players who just needs the right club and coach.

If there was one feasible City player we could get on loan it would be Rico Lewis for me
Can play full back and centre midfield
Can play full back and centre midfield

There will be at least two Americans signed this summer, don't be surprised if Pulisic is one of them.
(At least then he won't then be playing against us)

Don't think Lewis in the frame
Cole Palmer might well be though, City certainly want to give him more game time and he ain't going to get it there
Thing is, does he fit what we need?
(I have no idea as I've barely seen him play)

I suspect they would be if it is a big money player who is struggling to adapt to their almost unique system.
A CM playing in a role where the RB floats into that space seems to me to be very tricky to learn.
Obvs low probability with Phillips but can see some logic if they aren’t yet ready to jettison.

If we do bring in an American player I’d imagine Tim Weah would be an option. I think he’s in the last year of his contract come the summer

If you’re going North American players, Tajon Buchanan, Paxton Aarenson, Diego Lainez would be top for exposure.

Pulisic, I mentioned him a few days ago in jest - he's been linked with Juventus and Napoli, way out of our range in terms of wages

Would love Buchanan, would give some real competition for either flank and has European experience in Belgium.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 3:50 amIf you’re going North American players, Tajon Buchanan, Paxton Aarenson, Diego Lainez would be top for exposure.
I'd chuck in Ricardo Pepi's name in too. Been relegated at Groningen but by all accounts acquitted himself well in his loan spell from Augsburg and widely tipped to leave with PSV monitoring him.
There's a few over in the MLS worth looking at, is it worth a punt for Cade Cowell from San Jose? His form wasn't great last season after bursting onto the scene as a 17 year old, but he's earned a call up to the USA squad lately. He's an absolute unit for 19 and rapid, so could provide options across the frontline
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Palmer is no better than what we currently have, Lewis would certainly boost our midfieldLancasterclaret wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 7:35 pmDon't think Lewis in the frame

But he has been getting a good bit of game time at City (in front of Philips) so maybe not surplus in their eyes - but we can hope
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I agree, Palmer doesn’t excite me half as much as some of the other names mentioned. Definitely looks like he needs to bulk up a bit to make it.
As for Rico Lewis, 18 years old, 22 appearances across all competitions this season, we’ve more chance of signing Phil Foden.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The obvious midfield loan target (and perhaps even permanent target although finances may be a stretch) is Sambi Lokonga. Arsenal very likely to loan him out as last chance saloon next season. His loan at Palace has not been a conspicuous success which may limit his options but his played for Kompany and perhaps as importantly, alongside Cullen before at Anderlecht as he was making his name - he fits our system and his potential to flourish in it is obvious.

This is a good call, although I worry a bit about his rumoured attitude. He’s not made it at Arsenal or Palace and apparently was very unhappy at not being picked for Arsenal in particular.claretspice wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 9:20 amThe obvious midfield loan target (and perhaps even permanent target although finances may be a stretch) is Sambi Lokonga. When I’ve seen him play, he’s looked pretty sluggish and maybe not up to the pace of Prem football. He’s arsenals problem though - if Arteta doesn’t fancy him and Vinny thinks he can bring the best out of him again, there must be a deal to be done pretty cheaply you’d think (either loan or perm).

No way is Rico Lewis leaving them on loan-he is a key part of the starting 11 now that Cancelo has gone, and as cover for Ake, who has picked up a number of niggly injuriesCryerBFC wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 6:45 amI agree, Palmer doesn’t excite me half as much as some of the other names mentioned. I’m inclined to agree with you, however, City will undoubtedly strengthen this area of the pitch in the summer……..warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 9:41 amNo way is Rico Lewis leaving them on loan-he is a key part of the starting 11 now that Cancelo has gone, and as cover for Ake, who has picked up a number of niggly injuries

How on earth is Batshuayi 29 already? In my head he's still only 24. He's not developed/has regressed since 24 so could be that, would have had him when he was that age, probably not now.Cap wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 3:53 pmhttps://twitter.com/Ekremkonur/status/1 ... IRTAg&s=19
Batshuayi
I think striker is the problem position for us. I'd take Weghorst back and give him a chance, but 95% of fans won't so that's a non-starter. Jay I don't think has another PL season in him. Foster, I'm hoping proves me wrong but so far I've not seen anything in him, hugely disappointed. Obafemi similar, looks hit and miss in the Championship in his limited time. Ruling Weghorst out, I don't think any of our other options will cut it currently, which means hoping one develops & comes good, or a tough recruitment job.
Weah is exceptionally raw. He plays a bit of everywhere similar to Vitinho so he'd be a squad option but from what I've seen he wouldn't be a game changer or regular starter.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 8:51 pmIf we do bring in an American player I’d imagine Tim Weah would be an option. If we could keep him fit he'd be immense. Big if, but JBG's managed it this year after a few injury stricken years. Can't see it though we're nowhere near the wage or club profile.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I think he's been frustrated at Arsenal certainly but VK spoke well of his attitude at Anderlecht. As for sluggishness, I don't think his athleticism is in doubt but players look sluggish when they are unsure of themselves and thanking then reacting rather than playing automatically. That's confidence and understanding the system and being on the same wavelength as your team mates - which is why I think the Cullen connection is relevant.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 9:40 amThis is a good call, although I worry a bit about his rumoured attitude. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Any news on Maatsen signing?
Whilst having a brew I looked through Chelsea’s players out on loan and noticed Callum Hudson-Odoi is still there. That’s a player I’d like to see under Kompany if it was financially viable .
A more realistic one is Ethan Ampadu who if reports are to be believed, is going to be let go this summer. No idea on what her cost but he’s versatile and only 22 years old.
Given that he can play right back, centre back and defensive midfield he could be an ideal addition to the squad covering multiple positions whilst fitting the age profile. He could well be the successor to Connor Roberts in the inverted fullback/midfield role.
