I’m almost certain both Obafemi and Foster have been bought for the premier league. Pace on the counter attack will be incredibly valuable next season when we will spend most the games under pressureHipper wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 2:47 pmI'd like to know this too. Is Obafemi a definite or an option?
He doesn't appear to have played a full match and in 15 matches he was selected he's made only 146 minutes on the pitch as sub. I still don't understand what's going on with him. Is he not fit, not good enough or what. If we were trying him out with a view to buying we've not done a very good job of it.

I'm sure it's good financially for him, just wouldn't want him to end up like Vokes at Stoke. Getting abuse and moved on.Flying Without Ings wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 3:30 pmHe’s 33 and will apparently be given a 2 year deal on good money which I think is great for him at this stage of his career. Norwich a big club in championship terms too.
Just think he could find a better matched club football wise.

That article, in the comments, quotes a figure of £3.5 million, which seems little in today's circumstances. There are also not many complimentary comments on him.
We may have bought Foster for the Premier League and we have given him a good run out in The Championship but we haven't done the same with Obafemi.

I see Obafemi has done an interview saying ‘we will put on a show next season’. I think he’ll turn out to be a good signing.

Probably a lazy, click-bait link. I can't see us dropping £25m on any player this summer, let alone a striker who has only scored 6 goals this season.

The situation as I am aware is: Tella we are exploring a deal on him but as of right now its all dependant on Southampton and the price that they set we all know if the price is too high we will just move on. The club are very interested in a deal for Maatsen the athletic has said it loads he's only got a year left on his contract so a deal could be possible especially considering the offload Chelsea has to do this summer to remain within FFP. THB has indicated on Instagram he will not be returning which is backed up by our interest in CB's such as Kiki Kouyate who VK went out to watch again at Montpellier after we tried for him last summer in which he was very interested in coming.

He’s probably not THAT fussed. Entering the twilight of his career, he’ll be on a decent whack salary wise there, take me or leave me type of character. There is going to be some investment at Norwich over the summer if rumours are to be believed and he’ll have better service than at PNE, for example. I also think the fans will take to his no nonsense, 100% effort style - they’ve probably missed some of that at Norwich.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 3:04 pmBad move for Barnes I think. Replacing a very good, mobile striker and won't have the luxury of being a crowd favourite to fall back on.
Don't think he's going to a happy fanbase either.

Think you need to look at the situation PNE are in. Skint, trying to cut the wage bill again, losing players like Johnson (one of their few creative midfielders) for nothing and potentially Whiteman etc. Why at Barnes’ age would you take half the salary just for convenience sake? He’s a southern lad anyway, it’s perfectly doable especially for serious coin for a few years. It Is What It Is wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 6:23 pmBarnes would have been better at PNE as they do want him.

If he goes to Norwich, then quite likely he'll fly down from Manchester and leave the family where they are - I had a friend who worked in Norwich quite regularly from the North West and that's what he did.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I thought he answered those questions well and very maturely. There was enough in there to hint that he'd like to come back to Burnley, but quite rightly he played a straight bat to a question the answer to which is only in his hands if he doesn't want to come back. He was respectful to Southampton as we would want him to be to Burnley if the roles were reversed (see Weghorst discussion).dibraidio wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 1:26 pmHas Obafemi been confirmed?
I think Tella wasn't really prepared for those questions in that interview. He said that hadn't really thought about it and then said he was looking forward to going back to Southampton for pre-season. I think he's being very diplomatic because it's not up to him. If Southampton ask too much I'd expect us to move us. A bit like the lad at Coventry, if they're talking 25 million then I don't think that's great use of the money for a championship player when we payed about half of that to get Cornet who was a first team regular at Lyon with Champions League experience.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Go back a few pages it's there.
In short; saying he'll always be a claret as if he's leaving. Nothing concrete but it seems like it.
Might get offered a new contract at city and prefer that. But then again, he did say he wants to be playing football and he would be excited if he got to come here (previous press conference).
I imagine he will cost too much though and we'd go for someone else - but we'll have to wait and see.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
There’s a lot of competition ahead of THB at city and it sounds as if Pep wants another fullback or two in the summer which may push Ake and Akanji back inside so it would be even more difficult to get close to the first team.
A deal including a buy back option for City could lower any fee we are willing to oh for him if indeed we are trying to lure him back. Also a similar deal to the Mee and Trippier ones with a percentage of the future selling fee could be of use.
There may be a few young city players who leave on permanent deals this summer in search of furthering their careers .

He said he would much rather be playing here than being well down the pecking order at City.
Thats why I was surprised when it was posted above that he had intimated that he wouldn't be returning.

Maybe other clubs are in for him? Or maybe City are quoting more than we can afford to pay? We’re pretty well stocked at CB - I can’t see us paying some of the huge fees muted on here.Targetman wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 10:24 pmI saw an interview with him a couple of weeks back when he said the thought of playing for Burnley in the Premier League excites him.

He only has 1 year left on his contract I think so I can't see them loaning him out to release him when he gets back (his market value is £15m on Transfermarkt). It'll either be a new contract or sell I think, based on how he was talking in the presser.colne-claret wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 10:28 pmWe’re only allowed one loan from City next season and I’ve heard that we want other city players over THB.

Took Grealish a year to get used to the relentlessness of City
Will take Philips the same
He's very unlikely to come here one would have thought but one thing Pep is renown for is his ruthlessness if he perceives players aren't up for it

I like THB a lot, but with the performances of Al-Dahkil and Ekdal, he has to be the least of our priorities.
Nothing against him at all, and if we do secure him I'd be delighted, but with a limited number of squad places up for grabs, we can't afford to carry an excess number of CBs at the expense of other positions.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The reason Phillips may be sent here is if Pep is convinced we are a) not a threat
and b) playing almost an identical style. I think both of those things are true, even down to playing a fullback in central midfield when in possession.
I suspect we have chosen Beyer over THB and that while we may intend to add 1 CB it will be someone with experience, we have a very young set currently without a single PL appearance between them.
Nothing will happen while these other sides are still competing of course but I expect a very high calibre of arrivals that takes us by surprise.

From the Kompany Guardian interview:
“Guys like Anass Zaroury. I am not saying they are going to reach the same level but where they are right now for their age, I don’t think anyone can predict what they are going to be. Next year we will get that out of them, so I am excited for that. Ameen al-Dakhil and hopefully some of the other players we will announce soon.”
Exciting to think we might be close to announcing signings of Zaroury and Al Dakhil’s quality!

I was thinking exactly the same thing NewClaret. It's clear that the planning for signings has been in progress for a while and that there's possibly already agreements in place and we're just waiting for the conclusion of various leagues before we can announce them.
I can't see there being any last-minute scrambles this year (and if there are then it'll be added bonus players as opposed to clear targets)

Whilst I’ve really liked THB this season I can’t help but think that if we sign another centre back they need to be more of an experienced premier league centre back. We need a balance of youth and experience next season.

Wagner came in mid-season at Norwich and it was never his team. He might be looking to go in a different direction by signing Ash. The footballing route certainly didn’t do them much good.

When you look at their team on paper, and some of the thrashings they've had at home, it's clear they have a lot of talent, but no warriors at all. I think it's obvious why Wagner wants him.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 8:59 amRe: Ash Barnes.
