I looked at Wahi after he was linked too AC Milan as I had not heard of him.
It was soon apparent he was beyond us scoring 4 in a game at just 20.

Muric's improvement in one season has been dramatic - they guy nutmegged someone yesterday. He's a good keeperIt Is What It Is wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 12:06 pmYes..great pulling power for the club now with VK new contract. My one and only concern is Muric, his positioning and decision making on crosses frightens me tbh. We need to sign a bloody good keeper. Is Verbruggen coming??

I'd love to get Pulisic out of Chelsea with our American owners/JJ watt link up but I fancy that is way beyond our means

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Tella has to be more careful with his comments that’s why he’s not really saying much, he’s 23 and a first team player, it’s different to THB a youngster at city saying ‘playing for Burnley in the premier league would excite me’ he knows he’s not near the first team yet
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Media have made me cringe at least once per press conference / interview this season. Hopefully when there's more talking points other than are you enjoying being top of the league, and do you want to stay at Burnley, it will level out a bit.

Sorry chaps but my slant on that interview is that Tella is unlikely to sign for us. He said things like "whatever happens, it's be a great season here" and looking forward to seeing old friends and going on holiday with them. He'd obviously like to compete in the Premier League but I've got a feeling he'd like to return to Southampton and show them how good he is. I may be wrong but I feel that he'd like to do that. I think that it would be an unwise decision and he may not have much of a say in it anyway. I certainly don't think he'd do a Tarkowski and force through a move.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 4:30 amas you would expect Tella not saying too much regarding signing for us https://twitter.com/BBCLancsSport/statu ... 34182?s=20

I was trying to guess what the transfer budget would be but it's hard when you factor in the loans that left.
If we attempted to buy all the loans we'd probably be close to £50m total which is what I guess it would be initially.
Given that, it would be hard to add quality and improve on what we had this season

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
It’s going to be interesting to see our total spend this summer. Don’t forget there is the free market (Kent already linked) and 2 domestic loans / more overseas loans allowed (Forest have 2 and 2 this season). So I can imagine we will use both those options, as well as around a 45-50m spend. Should allow us to sign at least 2/3 of the loanees on permanents, plus a few others here and there. We don’t know how much upfront Beyer was, I’m predicting it was well below 10m with future bonuses taking it to the mentioned 13.5m. Overall I’m 100% confident we will be adding quality to the squad (Kompany has alluded to this several times).trawlen wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 9:31 amI was trying to guess what the transfer budget would be but it's hard when you factor in the loans that left.

Transfer fees now spread over multiple seasons, so in theory we could spend a total of 80m but only be paying 20m up fronttrawlen wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 9:31 amI was trying to guess what the transfer budget would be but it's hard when you factor in the loans that left.

Beyer has cost 13m
Maatsen wouldn’t cost more than 10m
Then tella we shouldn’t go above 18m
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
All the talk is always about transfer fees. I think salaries are just as important if not more so. Fees are spread over several years in the books and also with our model there is the hope that we will recover or improve on the amount we spend.
We got rid of quite a lot off the wage bill last summer but equally we’ve now got rid of Barnes, Lowton, Long and Westwood. So there could well be some unexpectedly good transfers. Hopefully for players who would be happy to work in our pay structure. And that is where Tella and Maatesen might become desirable options.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I agree-the Beyer £13m has not been confirmed by the club. All claret followers know what a great CH he is, and will get much better, but he has largely gone under the radar by the media and pundits. Any Burnley game televised by SKY, and I have seen all of them, rarely talks highly of Beyer, as they praise instead Benson, Tella, Barnes, Cullen, Zarrourry. Beyer did not even make Championship team of the year, and rarely got into team of the week. I think Tella may not feature regularly in Saints first team, and I think he knows that. DEspite relegation, they do have some very good players who will be hard to sell for the money Saints paid for them. Tella could go for as little as £12m. Maatsen is the one I am not so sure about-I think PL sides might hesitate in looking at him owing to his defensive weaknesses, but if we could get him for £6m that might be worth it (Roberts was circa £4m)hoskinsgoalatswansea wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 10:22 amIt’s just my opinion, but I think you could roughly halve those figures.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I can see us being clever with the international loan market to help us not spend as much. Loan fees with obligations to purchase if we stay up etc for a couple of players perhaps.

I'd take whatever Tella said with a pinch of salt. Southampton might want to sell or keep him, and we might want to look elsewhere if the price is too steep.

Nixon has tweeted that when the deal was signed, he was a Bundesliga reserve in a mid table team and that is a very good deal
Borussia couldn't have seen the improvements he has made, as he looks like a colossus now at this level

Agreed-these players on loan to a club have to be hugely diplomatic and respectful to the parent club they are contracted to. We may recall how diplomatic Beyer has been about any potential of signing with us.

To be fair he was also a full German u21 player and had over 40 full senior appearances (20 coming in the top league in Germany). That’s certainly not a bad record at the age of 21.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 11:59 amWe don't though, we know that if everything comes to pass in that deal (including add ons) then it is 15 Million Euro

Any rumours around about any other imminent announcements?

We don’t have options on Maatsen and Tella. Beyer and Obafemi were the two I was expecting confirmation of pretty quick.

I think Tella wasn't really prepared for those questions in that interview. He said that hadn't really thought about it and then said he was looking forward to going back to Southampton for pre-season. I think he's being very diplomatic because it's not up to him. If Southampton ask too much I'd expect us to move us. A bit like the lad at Coventry, if they're talking 25 million then I don't think that's great use of the money for a championship player when we payed about half of that to get Cornet who was a first team regular at Lyon with Champions League experience.

Reports flying around that Barnes has agreed a deal to Norwich. Surprising given his interview with the club a few weeks back where he said how settled he and his family were in the Chester area. Will definitely be looking out for their results next season.

I'd like to know this too. Is Obafemi a definite or an option?
He doesn't appear to have played a full match and in 15 matches he was selected he's made only 146 minutes on the pitch as sub. I still don't understand what's going on with him. Is he not fit, not good enough or what. If we were trying him out with a view to buying we've not done a very good job of it.

Bad move for Barnes I think. Replacing a very good, mobile striker and won't have the luxury of being a crowd favourite to fall back on.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 1:30 pmReports flying around that Barnes has agreed a deal to Norwich. He’s 33 and will apparently be given a 2 year deal on good money which I think is great for him at this stage of his career. Norwich a big club in championship terms too.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 3:04 pmBad move for Barnes I think.
