A couple of friends were able to go last night - no team sheets available because they said Burnley had offered them no information.

Same issue last year, we went to a game at Lancaster that we only found out about via Graham Lancashire who was assistant manager there at the time.

Taken from Twitter.

Definitely U21s.

Good to see Bauress back. Little disappointed that Mellon isn't with the first team.
Hello Mattster,

I presume you were there if you know Joe Bauress played. That is excellent after the lad had a whole season out with an ACL.

I wasn't there, Bauress is in that picture warming up, so that's what I was basing it on.

Joe was back in full training before the end of last season. He didn't play a game but was close to it.

Details revealed for Burnley's friendly fixtures under new Head Coach Scott Parker

Burnley FC are pleased to confirm our pre-season preparations ahead of the upcoming season.

The Club will be playing a number of behind closed doors games at the training ground, including fixtures against Barnsley, Celtic, Hearts, Newcastle, and Spanish team Leganes.

The Clarets’ game with the newly promoted La Liga outfit will take place before the squad fly out for a training camp in Spain.

During their time in Spain, Scott Parker’s men will finish their preparations with a game against Cadiz on Sunday 4th August.

Please note, the venue for the Cadiz match is still to be confirmed and supporters are advised not to book travel arrangements at this stage. The Club will provide a further update in due course.

"behind closed doors games at the training ground, including fixtures against Barnsley, Celtic, Hearts, Newcastle, and Spanish team Leganes"

Not too clear if all these behind closed doors, or just some.

That reads to me like all in that list will be behind closed doors and there may be others too also behind closed doors.

Sounds like Cadiz might be the only match we can attend. If I've understood the article correctly.

Pre season friendlies are the worst - football without an 'edge' gives an insight to what it must be like for people who don't like football. You're just watching 22 men keep fit really.

That said, I'm 20 minutes from Cadiz on 4th August so would probably go anyway.

Celtic away would have been a quality day out. Hopefully they don't take O'Shea back up north when they leave.

Is it at home though?

Interesting where the training camp will be, lots of German clubs use Estepona's ground & sports complex during the winter break, much better than the facilities in Marbella.

No problem at all with that for me. Looks like a decent standard of opposition, with gradual increase in quality, and a nice jaunt to Spain to get spirits up before the League KO.

I do sympathise with at least one poster, mind, who i think risked an early flight booking to cologne!

I would have thought most or all of these had been pencilled in prior to Parker's arrival but required his agreement. Or indeed had been part of the lengthy discussions prior to his appointment.

Probably - saves them a train fare and can also pop all his gear in the back of the coach for the long journey home.

If you're watching from your bedroom window it's definitely a home fixture for you at very least.

With 60 players in the first team and under 21s you could easily set up a four team tournament and play 6 friendlies without needing to involve another club. Admittedly that's just 3 friendlies for each player but at least it would give Parker a chance to see the ridiculous number of players at his disposal.

When did friendly matches start to become oh so secretive and played behind closed doors?
It seems as though the prestigious friendlies are now the preserve of the top PL clubs who often incorporate them within a mini tournament played overseas.

It's kept secretive until you're at the point of making money from it.
