A couple of friends were able to go last night - no team sheets available because they said Burnley had offered them no information.

Same issue last year, we went to a game at Lancaster that we only found out about via Graham Lancashire who was assistant manager there at the time.

I cannot ever recall being this close to the start of a League season with no Friendlies having been announced.
Re: Friendlies
Hello Mattster,
I presume you were there if you know Joe Bauress played. That is excellent after the lad had a whole season out with an ACL.

Re: Friendlies
Details revealed for Burnley's friendly fixtures under new Head Coach Scott Parker
Burnley FC are pleased to confirm our pre-season preparations ahead of the upcoming season.
The Club will be playing a number of behind closed doors games at the training ground, including fixtures against Barnsley, Celtic, Hearts, Newcastle, and Spanish team Leganes.
The Clarets’ game with the newly promoted La Liga outfit will take place before the squad fly out for a training camp in Spain.
During their time in Spain, Scott Parker’s men will finish their preparations with a game against Cadiz on Sunday 4th August.
Please note, the venue for the Cadiz match is still to be confirmed and supporters are advised not to book travel arrangements at this stage. The Club will provide a further update in due course.

Re: Friendlies
Just seen this. Will get something added to the site this afternoon but I’m just about to leave home to say a final goodbye to a fellow Claret and very good friend.

Not too clear if all these behind closed doors, or just some.

Re: Friendlies
That reads to me like all in that list will be behind closed doors and there may be others too also behind closed doors.
Sounds like Cadiz might be the only match we can attend. If I've understood the article correctly.

Re: Friendlies
Pre season friendlies are the worst - football without an 'edge' gives an insight to what it must be like for people who don't like football. You're just watching 22 men keep fit really.
That said, I'm 20 minutes from Cadiz on 4th August so would probably go anyway.

Celtic away would have been a quality day out. Hopefully they don't take O'Shea back up north when they leave.

I think I'll watch the Celtic game from my front bedroom window, probably feel safer that way after being there in '78.

Re: Friendlies
Interesting where the training camp will be, lots of German clubs use Estepona's ground & sports complex during the winter break, much better than the facilities in Marbella.

Re: Friendlies
No problem at all with that for me. Looks like a decent standard of opposition, with gradual increase in quality, and a nice jaunt to Spain to get spirits up before the League KO.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 9:33 amDetails revealed for Burnley's friendly fixtures under new Head Coach Scott Parker

The road to Gawthorpe Hall, Stockbridge Drive, will be interesting if they publicise the date in advance.

Re: Friendlies
I would have thought most or all of these had been pencilled in prior to Parker's arrival but required his agreement. Or indeed had been part of the lengthy discussions prior to his appointment.

Re: Friendlies
I wonder if the Cadiz game came about through the Pires negotiations? Or is it just pure coincidence?
Re: Friendlies
Hung around for Genk last year & that stung me, so went early this time and its stung me again

Hopefully we announce the Cadiz location asap so I can change the flights

Re: Friendlies
With 60 players in the first team and under 21s you could easily set up a four team tournament and play 6 friendlies without needing to involve another club. Admittedly that's just 3 friendlies for each player but at least it would give Parker a chance to see the ridiculous number of players at his disposal.

Saw Celtic at Turf Moor in 1978. That was enough for me. Wouldn't ever go anywhere near where they were playing.

Booked flights and accommodation for Seville. Planning on getting the train there and back to Cadiz. If it gets cancelled or re-arranged then I'll make do with 3 nights in Seville.

Re: Friendlies
When did friendly matches start to become oh so secretive and played behind closed doors?
It seems as though the prestigious friendlies are now the preserve of the top PL clubs who often incorporate them within a mini tournament played overseas.
