Mullen: Heath
Heath: Little
Waddle: Payton
Stan: Blakey
Cotterill: McDuff for longevity but it could have been half a dozen others.
Coyle: Thompson, the goal at Reading swung it.
Laws: Cork (only because he's been my fav claret over the last decade) but a shout out to Deano
Howe: Mee
Dyche: Barton
Kompany: Tella, what a mistake not singing him permanently.

Bit confused why nobody has included signings by Messrs Bond, Benson, Buchan or Cavanagh!
Bond - Wayne Biggins
Benson - Neil Grewcock
Buchan - Ray Deakin
Cavanagh - I am struggling here....

Not sure on Grewcock Herts, I believe him and Taylor had come in before Bond was sacked. Neil Whatmore and Les Lawrence are a different story :D

Bond I would say Reeves but for that injury and Hutchison of course. No doubt Biggins improved.

Miller first time Billy Hamilton
Miller second time, James

I just guessed given the date of debut. I was torn between Reeves, Biggins and Hutchison but plumped for Biggins, in particular for the successful career he had after he left Burnley.

Because the OP asked about signings from the Mullen era onwards

Bond definitely signed Neil Grewcock - Bond's best two signings for me though were Hutchison & Reeves.

I think Benson's only signings were Lawrence and Palmer as well as loans

I did actually mean for others to do it from when they started watching, but I obviously didn't make that clear enough haha.

I go back to Miller promotion year which I'd assume was Hamilton. When he rubuilt, has to be either Davis or Comstive. Bond was Reeves - what a player he was, still wonder what if had he not got injured. Think he signed Biggins as well which was a great deal.

Buchan Benson and Cavanagh I'll just void!

Casper - Davies
Mullen - Eyres
Heath - Little
Waddle - Payton
Stan - a tough one this. I've got to go Blake
Cotterill - made so many good signings there's arguments for many of them (Duff/Elliott/Akinbiyi/Caldwell/Carlisle/Grezza/Sinclair). Always thought Gray was a master stroke - often goes under the radar. But I've got to say McGreal - he was pure quality.
Coyle - Eagles
Laws - Marney
Howe - Mee
Dyche - Heaton
VK -Berge

Got me thinking about key signings for the Club who gave their all - who signed Deakin? That has to be in that "void era" surely - or did Miller bring him in?

From the era I watched:

Adamson - Fletcher (runner up Newton, or Noble)
Brown - Morley
Potts - Kindon - one of the most effective signings ever!
Miller - Hamilton
Casper - Flynn
Bond - Hutchison
Benson - Hird

It was Miller who signed Flynn from Leeds and Bond signed Hird.

From my time watching:
Stan : Little
Cotterill: There's a lot to choose from. I'm going to go Blake second time around. He was an absolute joy to watch in the promotion season
Coyle: For value Steven Thompson but just in terms of entertainment Eagles or Fletcher, both brilliantly talented.
Howe: Danny Ings. Trippier and Mee both brilliant but Ings is the closest we've had to a world class player in recent times. But for injuries I'm convinced he would have been Liverpools number 9 ahead of Firmino. He could link the play brilliantly but was a much bigger goal threat. He'd also have had a lot more England caps.

Dyche: how do you choose. Heaton, Arfield, Keane, Tarkowski, Ward or Defour. Take your pick.

Kompany: Difficult one, nobody's really shone in both seasons. Probably Berge, Benson or Cullen.

If Benson only signed Les Lawrence and Geoff Palmer, no wonder there are no candidates for best signing.

Les Palmer & Geoff Lawrence were better players for Burnley than those 2 and neither of them exist :D

He also signed Joe Neenan and Mark Rhodes on loan. Astonishingly, Buchan then signed them both permanently.

I'd forgotten about Mullen & Eyres. A strong choice.

Quite incredible to think that Waddle thought he was past it - and then Eyres went on to make 300+ more appearances for PNE and Oldham. Talk about longevity, I think I read he benefited from starting his career relatively late in his early to mid 20s.

Hansbury left at end of 1984/85 but Benson brought Neenan in on loan during that season. Neenan played nine league games from Feb to March with Hansbury playing the rest.

Some fans have witnessed a Burnley manager have to choose between Heaton or Pope as well as one choosing between Hansbury or Neenan.

Some contrast

Was not that the season Pope saved the penalty on the Turf against Leicester after which we went on a good run after some really poor results. I suspect now that would be a later season after both Hart and Heaton had left. I think i am correct that Pope's penalty save against Leicester that season kick started another set of good results apart from the usual drubbing by City

Pope made the save against Leicester in 2020 - that was the first home game after Heaton was stretchered off playing for Villa against us
