The fact he takes up a squad space for an already bloated squad and probs one of the highest wages and we invested 15m on him.

I think Whittaker has sufficient technical quality but maybe a question mark on his work rate. In the last few games you only have to look at the work done by our wide men-ie Foster, Anthony, Koleosho.

I think Foster has proven he could be quite dangerous in that LW role with a bit more experience and I like Anthony. Flemming is growing into his role so where exactly would Whitaker have fit in?

He would have been fighting out for 1st sub with Koleosho, Tresor, Sarmiento and Ramsey for the wider roles and Barnes or Jay for the CF role.

From distant memory they weren’t a partnership as such. Just two players in the form of their lives. Most of Whittakers goals seemed to be rockets from outside the box.

We’ve tried to sign Whitaker in the summer and January so hardly little interest. Hopefully a better option has become available.

I’d have been fine signing him but that would have been my big concern. Ultimately Parker likes the guys that give 110% which I suspect is why we pulled out as the price went up.
