They can have him IMO. Not being funny, but if I were Parker and discovered the lazy prick couldn’t be arsed to turn up on time to kick a bag of wind around for stupid money, then I’m out!Sunny Cornwall wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 7:00 pmJust been on BBC Spotlight SW that Whittaker expected to sign for Boro.

The fact he takes up a squad space for an already bloated squad and probs one of the highest wages and we invested 15m on him.
If we were saying benson and Redmond are close to fitness that would be 8 players all trying to fill 2 wide spots

Reports that Rovers may have swooped for Benjamin Kimpioka, currently banging in goals for fun at St Johnstone in the top flight of Scottish football...6 already this season including a brace against Ross County back in September.
Have we been caught napping here?.. clearly there's a few quality strikers up for grabs if we keep our eyes open...
Swedish under 19 cap under his belt as well.

By contrast Adewumi has 4 in 15 and he was considered far enough off our squad to go out on loan…

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I think Whittaker has sufficient technical quality but maybe a question mark on his work rate. In the last few games you only have to look at the work done by our wide men-ie Foster, Anthony, Koleosho.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I think Foster has proven he could be quite dangerous in that LW role with a bit more experience and I like Anthony. Flemming is growing into his role so where exactly would Whitaker have fit in?
He would have been fighting out for 1st sub with Koleosho, Tresor, Sarmiento and Ramsey for the wider roles and Barnes or Jay for the CF role.

I thought I had seen it in here but Boro have Azaz who Whittaker had a good partnership with when he was on loan at Plymouth. Apparently he helped sell the Boro nove and Whittaker liked the idea of pairing up with him. Unsure how true but plausible.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Just watched Parker talk about running through a brick wall for him and how he values it. No way he’ll ever let a lazy player anywhere near a Burnley team (rightly so) and so I suspect that’s why we had little interest. Same goes for Tresor’s prospects unless his work rate improves.warksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 9:04 pmI think Whittaker has sufficient technical quality but maybe a question mark on his work rate. Teesside Live, reporting on the Whittaker transfer, reference the fine partnership enjoyed with Finn Azaz when on loan at Plymouth and that Whittaker had sought his advice before making the decision to move to Boro. The BBC article on the Transfer page also references the fine partnership built up between the two players.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 10:24 pmFrom distant memory they weren’t a partnership as such. Just two players in the form of their lives. Most of Whittakers goals seemed to be rockets from outside the box.
As I suspected we were always second best in this particular 2 horse race.

We’ve tried to sign Whitaker in the summer and January so hardly little interest. Hopefully a better option has become available.NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 9:19 pmJust watched Parker talk about running through a brick wall for him and how he values it. Cannon was nothing special and I seem to remember a couple on here going mental that we'd not signed the wonder kid from Arsenal Rak Sakyi who also looked meh...........maybe just maybe sometimes we need to look a lot closer to home and appreciate what we've already got.

Odds on for promotion and a bumper pay rise, playing against his old mates Saka, Gordon etc. Nah, doesn’t make sense. The only thing that makes sense is we had 2nd thoughts.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I’d have been fine signing him but that would have been my big concern. Ultimately Parker likes the guys that give 110% which I suspect is why we pulled out as the price went up.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 10:36 pmColin on Sky for the Blades game, who watches a lot of Plymouth, just called him lazy.
Yeh, it starts to feel like we had a change of heart, probably rightly, but we will see.
That or we believe we’re close to better options.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Or maybe we don’t start making stupid wild statements and opinions after 1 game. Based on your logic, If Cannon scored a hat trick tonight you would be saying he was a world beater.louieollie wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 10:06 pmCannon was nothing special and I seem to remember a couple on here going mental that we'd not signed the wonder kid from Arsenal Rak Sakyi who also looked meh...........maybe just maybe sometimes we need to look a lot closer to home and appreciate what we've already got.
Great players have poor games, poor players have great games. I think it’s best to judge based on consistency over a longer period.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I think Whittaker will be a huge success at Boro where he’ll be surrounded by better players and get more of the ball.
