Up the Clarets - ten years event

Post by ClaretTony » Wed Mar 19, 2025 3:34 pm

In 10 months time, Up the Clarets will be ten years old and a potential event has been discussed.

Any thoughts as to the kind of event and what would encourage you to attend?

Personally better to have it when the nights are longer, around April 2026 would be my suggestion on timing.

I’d love to attend, it was great in the Clarets Mad days being able to put faces to names. Sadly too many of those faces are no longer with us.

We used to do that at the old CM dinners. We would have Dobbo’s wife wearing a badge with Mrs Dobbo on, Vince Overson’s wife with Mrs Big Vince and, in case anyone didnt know who he was, Jimmy McIlroy had a badge with Jimmy Mac on.

Mindblowing that it's 10 years !

A dinner at the Turf would be good, jdrobbo can be the security to keep the rabble in order.

I bet Dobbo and Vince would come to a dinner.

Alison Overson loved it and I bumped into Dobbo at Old Trafford cricket ground a couple of years ago and he was saying how much he enjoyed all things Burnley.

And you buy one you get one free!

Sounds like the kind of thing Mr Pace might get involved with. If anyone on here is friends with him on Facebook you should message him about it

The renovated James Anderson Suite and function room in Burnley Cricket Club is free to hire for all. Suitable for events, family functions, parties, community groups and get-togethers.

Now that I know at least two of you personally, I would feel less awkward about attending :D Maybe an evening after a home game on a Saturday (although, that will give precious few options these days!).

First match report on here was the 4-1 home win against Derby which I entitled Ram-Shackelled.

I’m surprised it’s only ten, then again I think I missed the later ones. A divorce, four moves, a Degree and Masters Degree, and a ‘new’ relationship now entering its eleventh year…. Yet it seems like recent history that SatanicMustard ( as was) got stuck in the back of my SAAB when we dropped him off afterwards :D

Joined CM in last week of March 2000 so it is 25 years next week. I'd previously run the CISA website.

I’d think the best thing to do would be to have a meet up in a pub immediately after a Saturday home game . Would need to find a pub that would close for a private function…not sure how easy that would be.
