Fans hammering a player with nothing really to go off is pretty tiresome too
He’s a footballer we’ve paid millions for and he’s barely featured,he’s gonna get hammered.

Maybe he's flying somewhere in the world for specialist treatment on whatever his issue is that should hopefully help him play shortly after?

All seems cryptic and strange though
Agree, the whole refusing to play thing has never made any sense to me because how on earth is this benefitting him or his career? It’s doing the absolute opposite and the longer he’s off the pitch, the more harm he’d be doing.

Nobody would be stupid enough to advise him to take a year off, career suicide in a short career. He was in the Belgian national team before he came here and now he’s earning the most he’s ever earnt.

I could see the sense in him just sitting out his big contract if he was 33/34 with 3 years left to run (similar to what Casemiro appears to be doing at Man Utd) end of career, accumulate as much as you can type thing but not in what should be his prime years.

It ain’t exactly going to inspire the lad to do anything but look for an escape route.

I understand the frustration - I just can’t get on board with all the criticism of him, when we don’t know what the issue is.

A fit and firing Tresor on one wing, Edwards on the other - I can but dream.

He struggled in the premier league so if anything a good season in the championship with high stats would have increased his reputation and earns him a big move, much easier than a move will be this summer now.
I'd heard rumours it was in his contract he couldn't play in the championship then he was was involved in the FA cup game only so makes you think but surely he'd renegotiate.
I'm not sure what to believe anymore but all the players seem to have his back, if I was being paid less(most will be) and running round training and travelling the country playing 46 league games trying to earn promotion and he was refusing to play I wouldn't be liking his Instagram posts or being friends with him I'd be hammering him and telling him what I thought so surely the players relationship with him gives off the impression he actually can't help what he's going through.

If he had a “couldn’t play in the championship clause” then it should have been easy enough to get him out on loan like we did with WW, in at least one of the transfer windows

Once again on a Tresor thread, a few posters advising they have heard reasons for Tresor’s absence which would apparently help to explain things but not willing to share that info….

All I've seen is people say, its not a player refusing to play and there are other reasons personal to Tresor, personal or physical.

I'm happy to go with that, I don't need to know anything else and obviously the club and player feel the same way.

As other have said the mixed message from Pace and Parker hasn't helped the situation.

I think people are quite right when they say both the club and Tresor do not have to tell people about the situation.

Still, it doesn't mean we should stop asking questions either. This has probably been the worst transfer in the history of the club, so it is not just going to get swept under the carpet quietly.

It will make an interesting quiz question, "who was the most expensive transfer in championship history, but failed to make a single appearance"

I can't but help feel, in this world where nothing is a secret for long, that if he was suffering from health issues or an illness, that it would simply be out in the open by now. Lets face it, its been a burning question since about October of last year.

Maybe they are decent human beings who don’t feel the need to spread personal information on the internet that is not already in the public domain?

The issue with Mike Tresor is a personal one. If he wanted all and sundry to know what it was, it would be out there.

Have some respect for a human being who’s been absolutely slandered by some fans and has held himself in the highest regard throughout - despite people like you (and others) constantly trying to guess what the problem is.

The questions should be aimed at Alan Pace, who is like a dog with two d!cks when it comes to trying to appease Burnley fans. He created this entire issue - not Mike Tresor.

If the player didn't want gossip to occur, then perhaps only posting cryptic content on his socials over the last year wasn't the best course of action.

It’s only cryptic because we don’t know the context behind it. The players at the club seem to be behind him.

It’s quite sad, this witch hunt of Mike Tresor, and has only shown a portion of our fans for what they really are….

If he`s had a serious illness i don`t see why they can`t just say, they don`t need to go into specifics. All this cloak and dagger stuff and making up niggly injuries has just made it worse.

What’s “made it worse” is Alan Paces comments about him which has then fuelled unfair speculation about Mike Tresor’s character.

Those comments have led to unfair and unfounded criticism of a player who, as far as we all actually know, has done nothing wrong other than not come out and update people on a personal issue.

If you don't actually know what the situation is how do you know Mr Pace has fuelled unfair speculation?

If it’s a personal issue as you suggest, why do some members of Joe Public know of this? I have close friends in the local media. If I wanted to find out what the issue is, I could easily find out. If Tresor and the Club wanted it kept under wraps, that’s fine. But it’s not right that some people who have no professional connection to the club have knowledge that others don’t. Choosing to come into a football forum and say things like “I’ve heard some things and, if true, you’d be ashamed of your comments”. It’s equally as pathetic as “people like me”.

As a supporter, “people like me” really want Tresor to be playing and showing his undoubted quality. At this level he could’ve been the difference to automatic promotion or not. Imagine him in a three with Edwards and Anthony behind a forward! “People like me” only want Mike Tresor to succeed and are frustrated that he not involved. He’s a player that would get us on the edge of our seats - something no that’s sadly been lacking for the first 5 or 6 months this season.

The problem is it's not a zero sum game. There are consequences to having Eur18 million assets not being deployed beyond the needs of the individual concerned whatever that may be.

The ability to be able to see beyond the individual to the community and ultimately society was beyond the wit of Margaret Thatcher and seemingly quite a few on here.

Nothing I was not referring to Tresor but to the arguments made on this thread.

I suppose I was pondering the irony that Thatcher's individualism has not created a society of self reliant people striving to improve the whole but rather a bunch of self absorbed narcissists who post pictures of their feckin' tea on social media platforms.

And to be fair anyone with half a brain knew exactly what was going to happen. Ask Rachel Reeves I don't suppose she wanted to spend the week dumping 300,000 people into relative poverty. The actions of individuals has consequences for the whole.

Burnley fans are perfectly legitimate in putting the clubs well-being first.

We never had this issue in the 70s.

Heard a while back from a decent source that he's taking the club to court for mismanagement of injury and the club are countersuing (I'm not sure what for).... gives a strange twist/angle to what could be going on though.

All that we know is that for whatever reason he can't, or won't play for the club. It was clear from last season that he wouldn't play much, but Pace still signed him. A waste of £15 million plus wages. It would only take a few Tresors to see us back at the bottom of Division 4 with no money. Hopefully, if we do go up, we don't have the same scatter gun approach to recruitment. We signed far too many players, with little game time.

Last season when he had his few apps under Kompany, he looked miles off the pace. Almost like we'd signed a lookalike of the Tresor we'd all watched the videos of. It was very easy to believe the rumors that he had been kept out due to a very bad illness/injury up until that point.

Perhaps Tresor felt he had been forced back into playing games that he was adamant that he wasn't ready for but was contractually obliged to play if selected. Perhaps he felt this set him back much further and caused him to miss appearance related bonuses, had damaged his future career potential, etc. I also wouldn't put it past Kompany to put results before the wellbeing of an individual if he was frustrated the individual wasn't getting back into contention quick enough.

This is the only rumor I can see any logic in. If any of our employers caused us harm we'd not only take legal action but we'd be expected to do so. No different for a professional footballer.

Heard a while back from a decent source that he's taking the club to court for mismanagement of injury and the club are countersuing (I'm not sure what for).... gives a strange twist/angle to what could be going on though.
This particular theory does make sense from one perspective. Alan Pace would be more inclined to say he was fit publicly, if he's in a legal battle with a player saying he isn't because of treatment given by the club.

But, as alluded to, tis all a mystery!

Tresor seemed very happy mixing with the players just a few months ago, so didn't look like somebody at loggerheads with the club.

It's entirely possible that he could be getting on well with players but be unhappy at the club and the decision-makers at the same time.

That’s not really the relevant point.
If somebody knows the nature of the illness because they have told this by a professional at the club then it’s understandable that they choose not to disclose this on a public forum. Whether you know the reason or not it is also pretty reasonable to point out (as many posters already have) that it is not fair on the player for fans to take a view on a player and make up songs about him etc without knowing the facts. I am aware it happens all the time in the game but does not mean that is right.

I do still think that the club could be more open about players injuries and their expected returns, progress etc. I suppose there is also a bit of an argument that if a player himself says he does not want the details of an injury or illness disclosing then it isn’t helping his own situation in terms of potentially getting stick from the fans. Unfortunately the price we have paid for a player also inevitably comes into play too in these situations and again can make it worse for the player - as it has done for Tresor.

Ramsey has not come in for anywhere near as much stick as Tresor. He was equally as poor when he played for us last season, has missed a very long time out with injury and also cost a lot of money. I don’t think any of us had a clue he would be out injured for so long or how serious the injury was.

This thought did occur to me, but I don't think that if the club was in litigation with a player like this - that he would be mixing with the rest of the players. Could be wrong but this scenario doesn't ring true to me.

Serious knee injury was confirmed early on so fully expected a year or more recovery

I think that if litigation is involved it would make perfect sense for him to be mixing with other players.
If the club tried to prevent this it would strengthen his case - [that (one assumes) he is being ill-treated by the club],and vice-versa, it would strengthen the club's case if he was seen to be ostracising himself from the club.
The theory of this all being about litigation has some merit (IMO) but it might be way off the mark,

Aye, seems a bit far fetched but usually get good info from the person who mentioned it and I don't like posting random made up stuff on here with the amount of folk who'll throw it back at you down the line

Guess we'll find out down the line and the truth shall possibly set him free?

We knew what was up with Ramsey, we saw it happen

Tresors problem is private, and should remain so, until he wants to divulge more details.
