Did powerhouse pick up full bonus points in the attendance league? Love an attendance chat that bunch, more than winning games.

Re: Lancashire League Cricket!
Nigel from the Lancashire League gets the scorecards directly from PlayCricket. Scorers now score on laptops or tablets which instantly update the website. Scorers make mistakes (scoring is a hard job!).ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 9:21 amAlthough the Lancs League and Play Cricket both initially confirmed that the tenth wicket went down on the last ball of the game before changing it.
Our scorer regularly goes back and makes edits, 10 or 15 minutes after the fact. If they thought it was a wicket and it wasn’t, as soon as they press the W key it closes off the game and sends the result for the final wicket.
Probably what happened.

It showed bowled, then not out, it showed ten points (correct) but the Lancashire League website made that 12 points (incorrect).Hopey wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 9:42 amNigel from the Lancashire League gets the scorecards directly from PlayCricket. Throughout the Burnley innings the fall of wickets was incorrect because they missed one so the fourth became the third etc. etc.

I suppose that’s to be expected when you have amateurs running a semi professional league and clubs ( some less semi than others )ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 9:44 amIt showed bowled, then not out, it showed ten points (correct) but the Lancashire League website made that 12 points (incorrect).

Re: Lancashire League Cricket!
As explained, it’s the scorers who have got it wrong.

I don’t believe anyone is disagreeing with that.
Re: Lancashire League Cricket!
The league relies on volunteers, give it a go if you think it can do better. You'll actually have to go to games though to help

Re: Lancashire League Cricket!
Great to see the club paying tribute to David Capel!
I was the scorer the day he came in as a sub-pro (if I remember correctly, it was in place of Manoj Prabhakar), and still remember that game - he was genuinely rapid! I remember we had a young player called Hesketh, who as a 14 your old I thought was rapid (albeit wayward), but Capel was a different class! I think we also had Ian Austin (against colne?) and Haynes(?) too in that run too.
That was back in the days when I had to phone Jimmy Mac after the games and call through the scorecard for the Burnley Express!
Good times!

Re: Lancashire League Cricket!
Thanks!
I remember having to give the scorebook to Stan Heaton at tea and again after every game - he didn't like to see any tippex! But I remember towards the end of the year when he told me that I'd gotten a lot neater over the season! I've had many nicknames over the years, but LCC were the only people who ever called me Dexter as there was a guy in the Lancashire County set up with the same surname as mine.

Managed to watch the first innings at Norden, they don't look as strong this season after losing a few key players. Ben Heap dug in well with good support, cracking day for cricket.

Re: Lancashire League Cricket!
Nelson have now won as many games as they did in the whole of last season, and we're not out of April yet ...
I hadn't realised that East Lancashire CC were taken over by a Charity, the " Minority Enterprise Development Trust " in March 2023, and they were in a really bad way financially. The 2023 Professional, who averaged nearly 74 with the bat, and 15.8 with the ball, did not wish to return last year, and his replacement, to be kind, did not find English conditions suited his game ( Average : Bat 23.18/Ball 44.16 ) ... They're using an overseas amateur, Hudson Walshaw, an Aussie from West Torrens CC, Adelaide for this campaign, presumably due to cost constraints.

As much as the older generation tell me they were a set or arseholes back in the day when they were dominating, i do hope they can keep going.
Was good to see they had a strong Asian community playing, including girls, but you do need the bar money as well and it wasn't even open.

It was a horrible place to visit in the 60/70s. Most unwelcoming to visiting supporters. I find it impossible to have any sympathy for their current plight

Re: Lancashire League Cricket!
Given that the business model of most Lancashire League Cricket Clubs over many decades has been an income stream combined from Match Admission fees, Sponsorship and Bar Profits, then East Lancs seem likely to struggle on the third item, unless they can boost their private function income ...
In terms of the senior teams, apart from the 1st team Captain, Paul Turner ( 47 ) and their Australian amateur, every other player in their 1st, 2nd and 3rd Elevens fielded this weekend appear to be from Blackburn's Muslim Asian heritage community. Absolutely no problem with that whatsoever, but that vital income stream isn't going to be there, and that will be a major issue going forwards, I suspect ...

"The mighty" is Colne's nickname. Find one of your own!

(And yes, the mighty Colne beat Enfield. In spite of the pro running himself out for 22.)

Re: Lancashire League Cricket!
Lack of sympathy for East Lancs isn't a new thing. Way back when they put people's backs up because they wouldn't allow visiting teams to have collections for fifty runs or five wickets. (I don't think they collected for their own players either, to be fair.)
And one that gets my goat - Colne aren't overburdened with championships and we missed one by a point in the war, and a late season game saw East Lancs 9 wickets down and match drawn because they arrived 20 minutes late. The rule that year was that lost time wouldn't be made up because of wartime difficulties with public transport. And yet East Lancs arrived by car, they just hadn't bothered setting off on time.
