If you remove Humphreys and Flemming from that, too, it’s around £13m (both were guaranteed to sign regardless of promotion and should really be on ‘last seasons’ spend).

Re: Summer transfer window
Is Micheal Mellon fit and ready to become a first team squad member
Re: Summer transfer window
Based on the performances I saw whilst he was on loan at Bradford City, he’s far from ready. Prem defenders would outmuscle him all of the time. He doesn’t have the physicality or athleticism required and his anticipation isn’t the best. Prem goal scorers need pace, alertness and an eye for goal and at the moment Mellon doesn’t fit into any of those categories so I don’t envisage he’ll be in SP’s plans at present

Re: Summer transfer window
Don't fall for past mistakes - us and Sunderland (who finished 8 WINS behind the top 2 in the championship !!!!) are sitting ducks because of the rules of the game unfortunately, slight increase of odds for Leeds, but still the odds for all 3 returning straight back down wont be huge.
Iffy teams over the years like Wolves, Forest, Palace etc etc have needed the last 2 seasons 29 and 26 points to finish 4th bottom or above. Yeah we can expect teams like Brentford and Forest maybe not to do as well as last season and maybe 1-2 other clubs but they would need to totally collapse not to get 29 points.
The team will give their all so just enjoy the ride.

Leading the race atm, and trying to sign him. My point was they are still spending on quality additions.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Wed Jul 30, 2025 2:30 pmThat’s not strictly accurate based on the link you have provided, is it?
I found this table interesting. They consider Isidor their third string Striker, and he is better than anything we have: https://x.com/rwmdawson/status/19504965 ... O7e5qvffGA

That table looks all well and good on paper, but as we saw 2 years ago, the reality is you can’t just chuck 8/9+ new players into the starting 11, expecting them to gel straight away and not disrupt the morale of those that did the hard yards last year.Steddyman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 30, 2025 2:48 pmLeading the race atm, and trying to sign him. There’s a balance to be had, and I feel Sunderland and their fans are going to have a bit of a rude awakening when the season starts, much like we did.

This is why us losing 3 main players is a big blow for us. Even if we sign good replacements, they need time to settle and find their role within the team.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Wed Jul 30, 2025 3:29 pmThat table looks all well and good on paper, but as we saw 2 years ago, the reality is you can’t just chuck 8/9+ new players into the starting 11, expecting them to gel straight away and not disrupt the morale of those that did the hard yards last year.

Their starting striker looks crap though, I'd take Fleming or Foster over him.Steddyman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 30, 2025 2:48 pmI found this table interesting. They consider Isidor their third string Striker, and he is better than anything we have: https://x.com/rwmdawson/status/19504965 ... O7e5qvffGA
Re: Summer transfer window
Kone from Wycombe would apparently only take around £5m to sign. I'd genuinely say take him and spend the rest of the Trafford money on 2 midfielders. Kone has the physicality to step up to the Prem IMO, looking at the next Watkins/Toney IMO.
Re: Summer transfer window
Foster? Really? How many did he score last season?northernpowerhouse wrote: ↑Wed Jul 30, 2025 3:49 pmTheir starting striker looks crap though, I'd take Fleming or Foster over him.
Re: Summer transfer window
Bit of a risk that one. Not sure we have the funds to be taking 5 million pound gambles this summer. Would have been a worth it if we weren't saddled with debt and just lost 3 players who we need to replace. Every penny should be going on ready made first team players imo.

Re: Summer transfer window
We need to concentrate on signing a Premier league ready cm.I didn't feel AP needed the distraction of building the brand in Spain as the job at Burnley needs 100% focus
Re: Summer transfer window
Any upgrade on Flemming/Foster is going to take £20m+. If we've only got the Trafford money to spend then we're going to have to get creative. Midfield is more of a pressing need than a striker IMO.
Who could we sign at striker that is ready made and wouldn't take almost all of the budget?

Isn’t there risk involved with every transfer though, whether that’s a 5m risk from a league one striker or a 15m risk on a Belgium league striker.Goliath wrote: ↑Wed Jul 30, 2025 4:05 pmBit of a risk that one. Re: Summer transfer window
All our transfer movements dying down whilst the Trafford sale dragged on suggests it's most of, if not all, our remaining budget.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jul 30, 2025 4:16 pmWhat makes you think we only have the Trafford money to spend?
IMO we need two centre midfielders, a GK and a striker. I'd want the majority of the budget to go the midfield. An experienced but cheaper GK plus a gamble like Kone would allow for that.

Was it not more a case of we needed to make sure we were 20m in profit at the end of this PSR cycle, which comes to an end tomorrow.Mattster wrote: ↑Wed Jul 30, 2025 4:23 pmAll our transfer movements dying down whilst the Trafford sale dragged on suggests it's most of, if not all, our remaining budget.

The cycle starts again on 1st August which gives us more flexibility to do deals.
I would say cm and striker should be bulk of the budget but then I agree we need another cm to. Try and get an experienced keeper in a cheaper deal and I would even say an experienced centre half who has more pace than Worrall.

Sheff U and now Ipswich apparently after McBurnie who is a free agent.

I really hope that you guys who are suggesting that we need a new PSR cycle on August 1 to add the final few players we need prove to be correct.
I know nothing about how it works, and if I did, much of it would go over my head. Fingers crossed you’ve called it right.

Re: Summer transfer window
Good chance that is correct as it does work in 3 year cycles.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 30, 2025 4:51 pmI really hope that you guys who are suggesting that we need a new PSR cycle on August 1 to add the final few players we need prove to be correct.

We do need to hit a certain level of profit number in year 3 for us to avoid a PSR breach and that year end finishes tomorrow. As fans we have no idea really what last years numbers are going to be as its virtually impossible for any of us to get an accurate figure on last years wage bill which will obviously be key to our profit number. But for those running the club and our finances they will know exactly what profit number we need to hit to avoid the PSR breach so they will have been managing our transfer spend and wages accordingly to achieve this.
Does not necessarily mean we are waiting for the 1st August and delaying transfer spend and signings to achieve this as we could be well within where we need to and there may be just the usual delays and obstacles in trying to sign players. But if 2 or 3 signings happen next week then I’d say there’s a good chance we did hold these back for PSR.

Re: Summer transfer window
Tbf this is exactly the kind of deal I can imagine United are desperate for.
Loan deal where we pay 30-40% of his wages. That 30-40% allows them to offer a new striker the wages they want.
