Congratulations President Putin

Post by Rowls » Mon Mar 19, 2018 9:16 am

Well done to returning President Putin who won with a staggering 76% + of the vote.

A triumph of democracy and a mandate for further continued success in Russia.

well...... he's overseen a country post-losing its empire, and its resources, and managed that process and to remain relevant. And in spite of only having the world's 12th-largest economy, even behind Canada, Italy, South Korea, he manages to remain THE single-most "issue" for both of the world's largest economies, the USA and China, to have to deal with. His international policy impact, and therefore influence goes beyond what it should be in reality.

I'm not promoting him at all, but the influence, positive or negative, is far more than it reasonably ought to be

Said in on the other thread, but Putin did stabilize a country that desperately needed stabilising.

Course he did it by essentially turning into his personal kingdom rather than a democratic state.

Yup, he's tapped into their fear of foreigners and convinced them that the West is coming for them again.

Course, he's had to ruthlessly make sure that no negative news gets out (recent legislation means he doesn't even have to tell the next of kin of soldiers killed in Syria or Ukraine where they died and can just say it was a training accident)

He's said he's willing to meet, at an unspecified location, at an unspecified time and to talk about unspecified subject which is all great, but he's still miles away from achieving that.

There seems to be a lot of insider knowledge on this thread. Just wondering where it all came from. I'm sure it can't be people believing all they read in our newspapers or what our government release as 'information' because I don't believe people are that naive.
If anyone could tell me I'd love to know.

Careful NRC, you have to look at this in black and white terms, otherwise people will tell you to 'go and live in Siberia.' Although, judging by social media this winter, the UK had similar temperatures.

The thing is, the UK is quite happy to rubbish Russia but at the same time it's quite happy to accept billions of their dirty gangster money and invest it into businesses, like football teams.

The UK's more than a tad hypocritical when playing the grand moralist.

I know, next thing you know Boris Johnson will be accepting £160,000 to play tennis with the wife of a former Russian minister. She also paid £30,000 to have dinner with the boy Gavin Williamson, our esteemed Defence Secretary. Perhaps she should have gone away and shut up....

As an aside, and prompted by WoodleyClaret, is Russia still considered a democratic communist country or now a right wing capitalist fascist country ?

Not that there's a lot of difference between either.
