VAR inconsistencies are so frustrating to watch.
But at least VAR has changed the game. The VAR people can look at the Southampton game, for example, and presumably be proud of the fact that they have made the game different.
Under the old rules, Adams scored his 90th minute equaliser, they all looked at the linesman, they found he was onside, they celebrated like mad. Last minute goals, there's nothing better. And then they went home and watched the telly and found the linesman was right, he was level, and they look back on a point well earned.
VAR has stopped that sort of thing. Now, Adams scores his last minute equaliser, the linesman hasn't a clue whether it's onside or not because it's been made impossible to tell, and the crowd celebrate before going quiet because they don't know whether it's a goal or not. And then the news comes through that Adams had his foot pointing down the field instead of across the field, which made his toes offside. VAR has triumphed - it's killed the excitement, it's disallowed a goal which would be perfectly good and uncontroversial anywhere else, the VAR people are thrilled that they have changed the game yet again.
Obviously it stinks if you like football, but if you go to matches in hopes of seeing exciting bits of technology and watching grass grow, it's just the thing.
