Incredible graphic on screen re Steve Smith facing bowlers over 90mph

His average drops down from around 60 to just under 30!

None planned in the North of the UK, its a farce and all the players seem to have spoken out about how disappointed they are
No test match north of the Trent in the next Ashes. That's disgusting, if any test should go it's Lords as it's a horrendous atmosphere at that ground, full of corporate people who don't know the first thing about cricket, and aren't particularly interested. We also have an absolutely horrific record there, and I know from first hand chats many of the players don't really enjoy playing there due to the above reasons.

Problem is it rakes in £millions for the red and yellow tie brigade..

Lords adds huge amounts financially, and is the biggest ground in the country.

I struggle to make a case for Nottingham, with it's limited capacity.... and facilities wise, the Rose Bowl is well short of being a tier 1 ground for the biggest cricket events.

Aussies not picking a spinner could be huge this test - Moeen is getting some drift, spin and bounce… could be massive in the second innings

It was for this reason I hoped we would have batted when winning the toss

Wouldn’t be surprised if they drop him for Murphy next game - looks miles off it

Everytime the Aussies look to be getting a partnership together we get a wicket to peg them back.

Great stuff on a batting friendly track.

255-7 Great over for Woakes with 2 wickets.

Outstanding catch by Bairstow.

Something like that can really be a turning point for a player.

His confidence will have been given a huge shot in the arm, hopefully that continues with the gloves, and can move into his batting too..

To be fair, I think he’s bowled well today without any luck but he’s clearly coming to the end of what’s been a wonderful career.

Good accurate bowling by Jimmy but no real threat, coming to the end of an amazing career.

Can he produce something big in this last half hour ??

Jimmy has bowled well without luck. Far better than Broad who has picked a couple of wickets up.

That's cricket for you.

They very rarely take him on, which makes it harder to take wickets but keep a very good economy rate.

Yes he’s applied pressure at one end from a run rate point of view.

I just don’t think he’s going to get more than 1 or 2 wickets this test match.

I suspect it might be his last test match

When you consider Woakes is just about the slowest of the four pace bowlers, its incredible to see how dangerous he is. For me he provides the benchmark for Jimmy, and whilst Jimmy has been tidy and accurate, apart from his initial spell he has not caused them problems

Not sure that’s accurate Warks, they put some stats up today.

Woods average speed was around 88
Woakes 83
Broad 81
Jimmy 80

No different to day 1 at Headingley tbh. It was late in the day when it got going there as well.

Lots of comments about Jimmy.

He had an OK day, and of the 5 bowlers used he certainly bowled the least dross and made them play the most.

In general terms we didn't create enough pressure.... allowing the Aussies to leave far too many wayward deliveries.

Too much importance being attached to speed on here... You could bowl at 100mph but if you're flinging it all over the place you'll get tonked at this level...

I think what worried me most was how utterly comfortable their 8 and 9 looked against all 5 of our bowlers...we looked unable to trouble them for way too long.

I was there today and the atmosphere was excellent
Every Englizh player was given great support. It was hard going for all of the bowlers but they stuck to their individual tasks. Jimmy, I think had five or six different spells but he did begin to look a bit dejected towards the end of the day. Looking forward to tomorrow.

If only Statham and Trueman had known about “wobble seam” they could have become world class bowlers. :o :o

Commentators try to use the phrase once or twice during a seamers over.

Woakes gets Hazelwood after last pair put on 18. Hopefully those loose runs from the tail don't come back to bite us.

Oz 317 All out

5-52 for Woakes.
