It was always a gamble (imo) to bring back the captain when he hadn’t played competitive cricket since August 11th
So far he’s bowled 5 overs and lasted 5 deliveries
It looks like he may need to play a captain’s innings in the 2nd innings

Haslingden tweeted something about the lad who came in and scored a ton for Pakistan on debut being an ex pro of theirs.

Pakistan 25-2

A lead of 100.

The pitch is deteriorating and becoming very difficult to bat on. Anything above 200 is going to be a struggle.

India 34 for 6 at lunch after winning the toss at home to NZ.

Not the standard India innings after 24 overs

Blimey, that's a turn up, the mighty India AO 46 in 31 overs, I presume it's a bit of a bowlers track 😉It'd be good to see kiwis pass that without loss anyway

India won the toss too I see, wonder if Rohit regrets his decision to bat? NZ pass India's total in the 13th over with no loss anyway
O'Rourke had bowling figures of 4/22 in 12 overs and they weren't the best bowling figures for NZ

Meanwhile England have a 5th wkt but it's going to be difficult chasing 200+ anyway I fear.

Funny old game cricket

Last month NZ lost to Sri Lanka by an innings and 154 runs

Today they just bowled out India on their own patch for 46 and are 54-0 in reply

Brilliant fielding on the boundary from Duckett saving 5 runs.

Crawley gone.

The downside to playing swashbuckling cricket.

Sometimes games call for batters to be watchful and use their technique, this is one such game.

Pakistan seem to have remembered how to bat again.

Four innings in this series, their highest run rate by a distance was the second innings of the first test when their only objective was to bat time.
Very very odd.

Losing those two wickets and the way we did was ridiculous given how much time we have to try and get the runs.

Time is irrelevant on a minefield - if you dig in, there'll be one with your name on, and you'll have gone nowhere.

This is the way this team plays..... you've got to accept the 823 off 150 overs and the 28/2 today. Personally, I think it's great to watch.

The game was always going to be heavily reliant on the toss.

Their spinners have been far more effective than ours.

I thought the venues for test matches were predetermined.
I don't see how they are allowed to change venue to stay at Multan.
I can see that the hope of the pitch breaking up helps a test match, but fail to see how it will benefit Pakistan, other than throwing a curveball that Pakistan will also have to overcome.
It made for an unbelievable test match, but if it wasn't for the result, the complaints about how flat that wicket was would still be ongoing.
To be honest, I'm amazed they got away with this.

Is there anything that could stop them playing there again in the third Test?

Yes, everything. They can't just change venues at a week's notice.

A lot has been made of this pitch being a minefield. It's spun a bit but nothing out of the ordinary.

All wickets today were self inflicted.

We were up against chasing the total as history will tell you but we shouldn't be getting bowled out in 30odd overs.

Let's hope we win the toss next week.

I don't know how much notice they gave prior to changing the venue for the second Test. It didn't appear to be very much but I really don't know.

Throughout the first test they were talking about back-to-back tests at Multan. And the reason was due to construction work at the ground they were due to plsy on, so it wasn't done on a whim.

3rd and deciding test

England won toss and bat first

100 up before lunch but loss of 5 wickets. 102/5 all 28 overs bowled so far by the same pair of spinners

They didn't change the venue for the second test, unless you're talking about perhaps a change made several months or even years in advance. The first two tests were due to be played at Multan, and they were.

The original plan was that they would use two separate wickets at Multan as is normal in all forms of cricket. The change of plan was that they would use the same wicket for the second test.

Incorrect. The second test was due to be played in Karachi but was changed 17 days before the start of the series.
