Article from Andy Jones in the Athletic today on current state of play with our transfer window
https://theathletic.com/4605830/2023/06 ... transfers/
- new bid for Verbruggen imminent
- far apart on valuations with Sunderland for Jack Clarke
- highly unlikely to spend over 20m on one player
- no update on Maatsen aside from the player would like another loan
- interest in the keeper Vigouroux

Yeah I’m not sold on spending 20mil on tresorCrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Jun 14, 2023 8:56 amThe interesting thing about Adams is that even though Saints had a few foreign forwards that took a lot of the limelight it was still Adams who scored or assisted in 4 of their 6 Premier League wins (he was out injured for one). He isn’t one of those strikers who doesn’t score at that level, as sadly Jay now can be.
On that subject the stats of Onuachu are interesting - big money signing from Genk, virtually a goal a game in the first half of the season for them, zero for Saints in the second half. One to ponder if Tresor remains a target. A very different league to try to get space in the final third and score or create. If we do sign Tresor, we will need to be patient, something that based on the above discussion is in short supply.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The guy just broke the assist record with 24 assists. That's madness, he's a gem, should do even better than Benson who was a bench player in the JPL. Besides that he's perfectly fit for Kompany's style of football. Can play as a winger or a playmaker.

Disappointed and surprised that with the transfer window opening today, we don’t seem to have anything imminent with several months of activity already taken place on trying to line up
transfers.
It’s not a criticism, because I know it’s tough as the Athletic says, but with VK saying it’s been a real advantage to plan early after securing promotion, I was expecting more encouraging news by now.

I don't mind Adams, but it doesn't appear to hit the categories we are aiming for
ie - sell on potential or can add to our team

Adams is not the profile of player (in age or type) that I expected us to be interested in. I would personally be underwhelmed by him, but the manager has proven he knows best. Maybe he wants a physical option there as a priority and that was the main reason Barnes was let go?

No doubting stats wise 24 assists is great, but assist stats can be very misleading, barnes had 2 assists first two games of season from two miss controls

I don't think it's mentioned further up (whether that means Andy Jones has updated his Athletic story, I am not sure), but The Athletic article today also says that active discussions are now in their early stages with Southampton over Nathan Tella and whilst the price was always expected to be a sticking point 'the hope is a compromise on valuations can be found'.
It also says that Muric may be sold after we sign Verbruggen and that Churlinov is likely to go to Schalke on loan after he gets over his illness.

Che Adams will be a good striker , even in the PL for the right club ie Sheff Utd or Luton, however our current crop is Jay, Foster, Obefami-none of these will torment PL defenders though of course we all hope Foster is on an upward trajectory. The new signing forward needs to be a little special, particularly if we dont get Tella back, who won us endless points this season from his match winning goals

On Tella, Southampton have to be realistic. Let’s face it, if the roles were reversed we would have zero expectations of keeping him.

Don’t believe media reports saying things are very close…..
Where have you heard today that moves are not close and nothing is imminent ? If it’s media outlets or this message board then again no reason to take it as fact.
All we have to go off is that the VK and the club did not hang about last season so it’s a pretty reasonable assumption that we won’t hang about in this window either.

Not necessarily, the selling club can give permission to the buying club to discuss terms with the player before a sale value has been agreed. Though if the reports are true, it will show we're not far away in valuation.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 14, 2023 11:44 amReports suggesting we're in talks with Nathan tella, this surely means a bid has been accepted![]()

Would loaning Tella again count towards the limit for domestic loans, or is that only for domestic loans from the same league?

They are:
- Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time.
- The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.
So we can only have two loan players at the club at one time, no matter what country or league the player's parent club is.

We can only loan two players from PL clubs but only one per club, e.g we couldn't get two loans from Man City.
But I'm fairly sure we could also loan foreign players on top of this.

You are correct Jakub, I just re-read the link I went to and the rules I posted are for Premier League clubs loaning players from other English clubs. So loans from abroad can be done on top of the English club loans.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Wed Jun 14, 2023 12:13 pmI'm not sure that is correct.

Seems very unlikely that Muric moves on unless there is inside knowledge that he wants to. If we sign Verbruggen and he picks up an injury the day the window closes, we are stuffed. Even if we got a youngster like Trafford as short term backup, short term is not 10-20 games.
An offer too good of course, say £15m, could be a different matter. Any less and with City’s sell on clause it wouldn’t be worth it.
