...You have literally no idea of what the contract contains between MUD and Burnley Football Club.
Whilst not disagreeing with you, I do think your calling out bfcjg for posting about something that he doesn't know about/understand is a bit harsh. This thread currently provides sixty six pages of entertainment, but if only posts by those people who knew what they were talking about were allowed, I doubt we'd have reached a dozen pages.

My problem is that when the season ended I was genuinely worried because I knew we had a squad which although they'd been PL strugglers, would be odds on to finish top two in the Championship. My worry was that the squad would be decimated by bigger clubs sniffing round our better players and I expected that. It didn't seem to happen and as the summer has worn on and Parker has taken the reigns I've become increasingly confident we'd start the season with our jewels in tact. Suddenly, with only a few days left before we play in anger, teams are all over our best players. This makes it incredibly difficult for Parker to plan and gives us basically no time to react if we lose some big hitters. If we do lose the likes of Berge and or O'Shea or Esteve or Oderbert at this late stage t I'll be getting very worried and I do feel for Parker in this respect.
O'Shea, Esteve and Berge would be big losses. They're good, reliable players who we'd struggle to replace for one reason or another. Odobert isn't quite as big a loss. He's a very talented lad but we have a number of options for the LW or no.10 role. I imagine SP will play a 4231 so could feasibly start Koleosho, Amdouni and Benson as our 3, with Zaroury, JBG and Vitinho in reserve. This doesn't take into account Ramsey (when fit), Redmond, Twine, Tresor either... if we could get big money for Odobert it wouldn't be a disaster.

We need to ensure Odebert and Esteve stay
They are great signings that we did well to find and mustn't loose them.

Man Utd want Berge to replace McTominay as they don't believe he is good enough yet they want to pay £20m for Berge but want £30m for McTominay.
Shouldn't that be the other way round if they think Berge is better.

Might be an unpopular opinion and despite McTominay's experience at PL/CL level - I wouldn't take a straight swap.

Dara Costelloe should have a great season at Accy he's done well at Dundee and personally thought he was worth keeping as a squad player especially against kickers like Luton and Sheffield Utd.

Interesting point on the Berge to United. Newcastle AKA Dan Ashworth were linked with him 6 months before we went for him. Interesting that he's now being linked to Man United since Ashworth has come in.

100%...we should absolutely not be selling first team players to Utd.for £20m...they've just spent nearly 3 times that on an untried 18 year old defender from France.

From what I read he did pretty well. Dodgson however was the one who really stood out there it seems and Mellon had a great start, but then struggled for game time after a bad head injury following a bad challenge which was (apparently) nothing short of GBH.

Odobert would not be such a loss as we have plenty of cover out wide plus Amdouni/Jay as No 10

O'Shea or Esteve the same with the rest of the cover in the squad - losing both though would hit us hard

Berge will be missed in midfield without at least one of Championship quality coming in

Taking your point on Parker's chance of getting any cover at a late stage, that's the issue unfortunately if we have to sell before we can buy

Chelsea have bought Mike Penders (gk) from Genk- loaned back for the rest of the season.

Does that put paid to interest (if any) in Trafford?

The two Alehouse brawler teams Blades and Luton will be top half in the Championship but once again we will be looking down at the rest.

The Alehouse Brawler approach as you allude is very much fallible. Games end up like ping pong and said team lose plenty, end up in play offs often.

If we can get enough structure / experience in our team (Keeper, Roberts, O Shea maybe, Cullen, Brownhill, Jay Rod when needed), we have the talent and speed around it to win it / come 2nd.

Sheffield Utd with their impressive new recruits, could be serious contenders this season if they had a progressive coach-not sure Wilder and his back room team possess the necessary guidance, coaching and motivation, but we will see

United fighting over this 10 mill sounds a bit daft this close to the season. Say it's a 5 year contract that's 2 million per season. A drop in the ocean for a club that big especially considering the silly fees they've paid for other players in recent times.

Sheff Utd and Luton will probably be up the top end of the table however I keep going back to how utterly dreadful we were last year and yet we won 3 and drew 1 out of our four games with those two. Luton are weaker than last season (cm big loses), Sheff Utd on a par at best.

We aren’t much different at the moment and maybe with last seasons version of VK gone you could argue stronger.

I agree!

Just read something about them making a package up to £25m Inc all the add ons/maybes and yet he is the first go to player, after their £50m no go.

Bog off!

Seems more a case of when, rather than if, of Berge going to Man Utd now. It will test our resolve over fee-I hope we play hard ball as they obviously want him. Much as I like Berge I am as surprised they have targetted him, as I was of Bayern Munich targetting VK

Seems more a case of when, rather than if, of Berge going to Man Utd now. It will test our resolve over fee-I hope we play hard ball as they obviously want him. Much as I like Berge I am as surprised they have targetted him, as I was of Bayern Munich targetting VK
Bayern turned to VK after 6 other managers turned them down. Perhaps Manchester United have missed out on their 6 first choice midfield targets also?
