Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
we are getting 90 million in parachute payments pal thats how the debt is being serviced nothing from player sales will go to the debt, its all being reinvested.spt_claret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 22, 2022 4:43 pmBut this results in the same problem of repeated rapid player churn and overhaul, selling them on for a profit, some of that money servicing the debt, some going to the Academy, some going back into the squad so actual squad investment has a real risk of remaining static. Buy low sell high sounds great and is obviously the ideal situation for ANY club, but it's difficult to keep a cohesive, successful squad while also having high squad turnover and only reinvesting a portion of that in the squad.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Looks like Muric is in Portugal after all. I take it he will play tomorrow and start at Hudd.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Seriously, why is this thread going towards financial discussion. It’s quite ironic that we’ve just announced an exciting 3m signing amongst this discussion though.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Now you are being a bit silly.
Where do you think the money from Wood, Pope and Collins has gone exactly ?
We already know that we have had to make a pretty significant repayment of the debt upon relegation.
And we also know that we have to service a significant amount of interest on the debt each year.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Well we needed a keeper in, welcome aboard Muric. He has enormous gloves to fill- the fact that a 75 cap England international was the weakest of our last 3 first team kepers, and Wales' all time most capped player was only backup, shows just how spoiled we've been. If Muric comes anywhere close to Pope or Heaton we've done very well.
Thanks for the Whoscored link earlier- somewhat more encouraging than the (older) stuff on his red card & Forest spell. The Turkish league is such a varied standard, and the other players in that team of the season are an eclectic mix, that I've no idea how good a metric of his ability it is- but if you're the best keeper in the league you're the best in the league, so it's a damn sight better than him not making the team.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
A lot of what you say is reasonable, but it's not realistic.spt_claret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 22, 2022 4:40 pmThere's a rather glaringly obvious factor in our lack of funds beyond refusing to sell players.
Also let's not pretend that the fanbase, especially those perenially unhappy with the old regime, would have taken kindly to selling Tarkowski to Leicester 2-3 years ago, McNeil to Villa/Man U as rumoured, etc. it's extremely, extremely easy to say in hindsight that we should have sold them then. For all we know, we might have done, still not seen that money go back into the squad (especially if the claims of a rift on transfer targets is to be believed), and been relegated sooner.
Yes, lack of player trading squeezed our budget and ability to invest in the squad. So did other factors, and ultimtely, trading your best players for transfer money is by no means a guarantee of squad improvement- which is what would have been needed to extend our PL spell. We didn't have the money to just strengthen without trading our best then, we certainly don't now, but you're acting like taking that gamble 2-3 years ago was in fact an obvious route to success, obvious to everyone at the time. It wasn't then and still isn't. Our relegation came down to lots of factors. A mass squad overhaul taking every marginal transfer profit we can, and reinvesting only some of that, is not a magic fix or a quick fix- and unfortunately I remain unconvinced we can afford to stay down in the Championship for long if we have any goal of seriously returning to the PL. I hope I'm wrong, I hope we can either pull off the miracle instant rebuild, or can afford to spend 2-3 years overhauling and then bounce back and have another run in the PL. But look at how other clubs get on, sometimes with more resources than us- it's not something you see often.
Our only saleable assets have been the ones we bought in young. Tripps, Ings, Austin, Grey. There have been other players we could sell, but not at enough of a profit to keep the club viable. The last 10 years have been brilliant on the pitch, and we've done remarkable off it, but the lack of a turnover of players for a decent profit had finally caught up with us. We all hoped that staying in the Premier League would be enough of a turnover to stay in the fight, but even without COVID, and the loss of income, we were fighting an uphill battle. The closer we got to the pinnacle, the higher they built the damn thing. Older experienced players filled the cracks, and did a sterling job, but we were never going to make any money on them.
All these young up and coming talents we have bought this window, give us a great chance for sustainability. It only takes one of them to really hit the heights, to pay for all the rest, and make no mistake, should Twine become a star and help get us promoted, then keep it up in the Prem, he would be a hero, and also a saleable asset. The club has had to sell to survive since the 60's, against millionaire sugar daddies it's what we will have to do going forward.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
A lot of angst from some posters over the 'loss' of Verbruggen, but despite all the rumours that the Muric deal was dead, the promo video shows VK welcoming him to Barnfield, so obviously shot a week ago.
It seems, like many of this windows signings, that the hard work has been completed long before the official announcement.
Not a complaint, just an observation. I said earlier in the thread that I take all rumours with a pinch of salt.

That would appear to be the gist of it.
I am unsensible.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
The one for the first interview? When VK shakes Muric's hand and welcomes him Muric is wearing the same top that he arrived in at the Portuguese training camp. I haven't been inside Gawthorpe (unfortunately) so can't tell if the room is in Burnley or Portugal but I would be very surprised if it is Gawthorpe.

Exactly-imagine if Rovers down the road had signed all the 7 or so players we have, we would be in meltdown. This is becoming an unbelievable window and maybe if we are patient a striker will arrive who will be our marquee signing

People seem extremely willing to accept that this is going to be a rebuilding season where promotion isn't the aim
It'd be just as well not to mention that in the blurb on the ST sales page.
If I thought for one minute that the club weren't arsed about promotion I wouldn't set foot in the place.
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Operation "Lower Expectations" seems to be going well.
I want to get promoted ASAP and to be honest I don't care how we play if we achieve that aim.

I am interested to see, if both Jay and Barnes feature, how the coaches get them to play.I know it was felt that the lack of creativity last year meant both hardly scored, but there is no substitute for pace. If we can retain Cornet and deploy him as an attacker then we may have solved one of the weaknesses

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
No one said the club aren't arsed about promotion. We all want it, but there is a reality to what we can achieve.
If you watch the video 'Kompany meets the Lads' on Clarets+, it is clear that it is going to take time. As VK said, it's a lot more complicated than spreading out and making space.
Making sure you don't overload zones of the pitch.
The weight of the pass.
The timing of runs.
The angles of the pass.
Just as SD didn't park the bus, there is a science behind everything we did, and there is a science behind everything that VK wants. He has warned the players that it could take 3, 4 or 5 months to get it right. Rather like driving a car, to the point where you can play the system 'without' thinking about it. WHEN they get it, they will love it, and so will we.
BUT, that takes time, and time means that although we want promotion it will take a very quick learning curve from all the squad, to achieve it. It also means that we fans have to be patient, and support the players when it doesn't quite come off.

I think people are being a bit disrespectful to Jay. He is a good footballer and good finisher. He never really slotted into the Dyche 442 in my mind but knuckled down and got on with it. I'm interested to see how he does under a different style where he isn't expected to be running the channels. I think he'll do well this year.
