Just set off driving with the heating on full, the windscreen is clear in about 5 minutes.

Top tip: When it's snows and freezes on the windscreen, simply clear a tiny gap to see out of and pretend you're driving a tank.

I once cracked my window doing this. It also startled a nearby swan which proceeded to break my arm.
