Re: Fat Sam
Easy to scoff, but I reckon Allardyce has pretty good judgement and will back himself to be able to get the 5-6 points required to keep Leeds up.
Obviously it’s hilarious that Leeds have found themselves in this situation, but the club has gone toxic and a change at the top may be enough to galvanise them for the final few games.

That handball was the equivalent of a suicide pact.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 10:16 amI mean it's water under the bridge now given what's happened this season, but given what was riding on that game we just didn't show up and the more I see Collins' handball it becomes more and more bizarre!
But as Tony says we didn't show till too late. Poor tactics.

Just checked on their managerial history. Can’t believe how often they’ve changed managers over the years. More so than Watford. Very surprised to see that Jimmy was their manager for a couple of years in the seventies. Followed by Dave Merrington. I don’t remember that.

There's no chance the threshold will be as low as 30 which would be the case if Leeds didn't win another game, it'll be low somewhere around 35/36 might be enough.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 9:28 amChanging manager sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, but only 4 games left and the first 2 against City and Newcastle, I can't see this making a difference.
I also think Leeds could stay up if they don't win another game. The other teams down there are so bad.

There are lots of things I could call him. Greedy, corrupt, perhaps? Having got to the top job in English football and than caught dodgy dealing with an Asian businessman, also involved in alleged tax fraud schemes. He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a football club.

Re: Fat Sam
He's got four games
No time for much coaching, no chance of bringing in unknown foreigners on loan who you've never heard of who turn out to be either terrific or absolute garbage
The only hope is that a change of manager will motivate the players to get the six/seven points that they will need to stay up
Its desperation
For all the revisionism going on in Leeds circles, they were going down last year till Marsh came in, and they haven't given him the time this season, and then completely messed up their replacement of him (for whatever reason)
Thing is, one really bad Premier League team out of Leeds, Everton or Nottingham Forest is going to stay up (possibly two if Leicester somehow contrive to get relegated) and that isn't great

Four matches is a tall order especially as he didn't get the managerial bounce that many expected in his previous job at West Brom.

They only picked up a point a game under Marsch last season so I’m not so sure anything improved when he took over.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 11:11 amHe's got four games

I think Everton, Leeds & Forest are bad teams but I wouldn’t think Leicester are any better from the games I’ve seen this season. No idea who’s going to go down though although Southampton must be close to confirming one place.

500k for 4 games even if he loses the lot, and yet if you sat him down for a pint of gravy and offered him a way of making a bit extra on the side he will still be up for it

Re: Fat Sam
Been officially announced now (not that there seemed any doubt)
BBC report includes...
Allardyce - who will be assisted by former MK Dons, Charlton and Oxford United manager Karl Robinson - told Talksport it "took him two seconds to say yes" to the job.
"I was shocked. I never thought at this stage of the season [this would happen]. I thought there would be no jobs," he said.
He added: "I could have done with more time, but we've got four games and hopefully I can keep this fabulous club in the Premier League."
Taking two seconds suggests DL offered far too much- but they are that desperate.

Re: Fat Sam
Will be his fault if they go down. He has inherited a team outside the bottom 3 with only 4 games to play. Was prob a 50/50 on staying up even if Garcia had stayed.
Saints Everton Forest for me although I thought Everton looked better than Leicester.

He'll keep them up. Unfortunately.
Re: Fat Sam
A dreadful appointment which goes against everything Leeds have tried to become under Bielsa and Marsch. As people have said though, there are four extremely poor teams fighting for two positions and one win could be enough at this stage. In the perfect world I'd like Everton and Leeds to drop as I actually think Leicester & Forest will be even worse next season and give us a better chance of staying up!

Managerial madness from Leeds? Yes.
Dreadful appointment? No.
They need someone to keep them up short term and they've gone to the expert- far from dreadful.

Spent a lot of money, and didn't improve them, despite having the time to do it
Re: Fat Sam
Is that true? He took over at West Brom when they were 19th in the table and looking doomed, one win all season etc and over half their games played. That's hardly having time to save someone? Also what do you mean by spent a lot of money? He signed 3 loans and Snodgrass for next to nothing didn't he? I don't recall him spending millions by any stretch.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 2:40 pmHis reputation took a huge hit with the WBA debacle

Re: Fat Sam
Lost his aura and Leeds are obviously desperate for anything that will save them. Fat Sam has a slim chance
Re: Fat Sam
I have it as 16 actually, but I'm not sure how accurate it is. He took charge in mid December so 13 seems too few.
Also I've had a look and he spent next to no money so no idea where that has come from.
I'd argue his reputation took a hit because it was built on him never getting relegated from the PL, but the reality is if he couldn't keep West Brom up then its unlikely anyone else would have.
