If we offer enough they won't care.
Money is the most important thing in life to many people, especially in football.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Plus the two players we've got have cost us nothing both are covered by the the players out sales and the extra money the clubs coming back up from the championship brought in around 7 million, so Mr Pace has so far in two transfer windows has spent £0

For those that believe we will be fine this season with the midfield we have, I suspect that the home game v Brighton, whilst easy on paper, will provide a reality check. are you sure about all that
are you saying that before outgoing sales the club made a profit last season - I am not sure we did even with the sales that will be included in last seasons accounts - given we appear to have kept the end of July date for the accounting period
there is indeed a bonus to be had from unused parachute payments of the two promoted clubs (circa £80m - £90m over two years) but:
a - it is split evenly 20 ways
b - The Premier League have to stump up an extra £25m a year for the next four years to the grassroots game as a condition of the government letting them break competition law by rolling over the domestic TV deal
c - our club has just exited a 2 year period where it has lost £13.5m in tv revenues due to a TV rebate
d - the Premier League has lost £14om - £150m a year in this cycle on the budgeted Chinese TV deal that collapsed before lockdown 1 - the new 4 year deal that starts this season is likely to leave then £120m+ short this season, Up to this point these shortfalls have not been reflected in the central distribution, at some point they have to be accounted for

For some the only cost in football is a transfer fee, you don't actually pay for anything else. If they had a pub and it took 5k a week they would think they have 5k a spend on themselves.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 10:08 amare you sure about all that

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Precisely! and our biggest barrier in the market isn't normally the initial fees themselves, it's the prospect of paying out crazy wages, plus although we generally try and be cautious and insert relegation clauses, many players and particularly their agents won't be bound be these conditions, especially if they have other offers open to them, hence why we'll need to hold our nerve and hope we can pick up a couple of guys in the last week of the window.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 10:10 amFor some the only cost in football is a transfer fee, you don't actually pay for anything else. If they had a pub and it took 5k a week they would think they have 5k a spend on themselves.
But did anyone really think this wouldn't be the case, as difficult as it might be sadly that's just the reality of the market for clubs such as Burnley.
I find it amusing when posters write X player is only going for £15-20m, firstly I doubt we'll spend that on one player, and if we did what sorts of wages do people imagine he'd command, I'd gauge you'd be talking in the 50-60k a week as a ballpark figure, so over a year that would be circa £2.5m, now well we remain in the PL that isn't a huge amount, however should we experience relegation, and the said player is still on that money due to them refusing a relegation clause, you can easily see how many clubs rapidly run into trouble.
There seems to be a common misconception that just because we're in the PL that we have a barrowload of ready money, yes we get a fair chunk of telly money, but we also have plenty of outgoings to factor in, as running a sustainable PL club doesn't come cheap, and clearly COVID will have greatly impacted us more than the clubs which are bankrolled by rich owners who can absorb any losses.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Burnley FC Holdings LTD declared profit before tax of £4000 in the 2020 accounts. The season before it was just under 5m. That's 5M profit from an income of 270m. The bastards are milking the club dry! The problem is that Sean Dyche has given bigger and bigger salaries to the same players because he believes in them leaving no money for transfers. Last season it was allegedly Garlick who was interested in Harry Wilson not Dyche. The much maligned chairman wanted to spend millions on an exciting young prospect and Dyche wanted to keep Lennon and Hendrick. Sean's objective is to get his bonus for keeping us up not to have us playing pretty football. He's risk averse. That's why he doesn't play youngsters unless he has no choice. That's why we don't trade players and that's why we don't bother about cup runs. Survival in the Premier League is the focus for all of our players and staff because that's what their bonuses are based on.ClaretMov wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 10:26 amDon't be so insulting, I know exactly how a business works I put that simple example just to highlight we've spent nothing net on players this window, I'm fully aware there is loads of running cost and it's the same for every club but the money we keep taking out of the prem with the lowest running cost of wages etc of any club in the prem and the fact we have spent next to nothing in the time we've spent in the prem is embarrassing when you think this season is the season we need to freshen up this old paper thin squad, If one of Pope, Tarkowski, Mee, wood, Vydra or McNeil gets injured we are ****** never mind if it's two
Last season, Burnley played 25 games with Nick Pope (above), Ben Mee and James Tarkowski all in the side and collected 37 points: upper-mid-table form. With one or more of that trio absent, the Clarets took just two points from 13 matches. That's why we signed Hennessey and Collins. The cover wasn't good enough. If Wood or Vydra gets injured we'll play JayRod or Barnes or a five man midfield. If McNeil gets injured we'll probably end up with Charlie Taylor or Pieters on the wing. We coped last season with no right winger. I agree that we could do with an extra body or two but if that turns out to be Lennon then that's because SD trusts him and thinks he can do a job.

Our wage bill is already too high, which makes signings like Lennon (if it does happen) even more ridiculous.
A complete waste of a wage, of which we’ve had far too many of recently.

I agree our wage bill is frighteningly high, and I'd hoped that getting the likes of Brady off our books might allow us to free up funds for either transfers or wages for new signings, however I didn't expect us to be seriously considering signing a 34 year old who we released just over a year ago.
If we do go ahead with his signing, that allied to Stephens, is a

I think there is space in our budget for new players, both to buy and to fit the wages into our structure, but I don't know how much by, and no one on here does.
Its reassuring that we have links with a lot of players, but that they are still only links is a concern, and suggests that either we are not willing to pay the fees or wages required (perfectly understandable with long term financial planning) or that we just are not attractive enough to get players in

I've never said I know what our wage bill will be for next season did I, The only figures we can all go off are from last season and those are the ones I'm talking about and are part of the running cost of Burnley football club on average with all the other cost including Police etc we are probably the cheapest club to run yet spend nothing, so something is wrong in the way we are run.

Without strengthening the starting 11 then YES, I do think we will struggle this year. As we are, we are easy to read and play against. I think we will struggle to break sides down, and I am intrigued to see how we fare against Brighton. For me, as we stand, this season will be our toughest test in the last 6 years

Not really. The committee (if it exists) can recommend players to the manager and he may choose to act on those recommendations.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 11:08 amPossibly, but that then rather negates the point of having a committee
