Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
3 or 4 signings to come, is my prediction.
Guess of today...
Lennon
Baldock
Just One
Plus poss Christie.
However, I am thinking that Mr Dyche likes one or two of the younger players and that spaces will be there for them.

Villa after Ward Prowse too, imagine losing Ings, Vesterdaard and Prowse in one window
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Might they come for tarks ?? Available and relevantly cheap for a proven, good centre half.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I'm sure it's been done to death but I think once you factor in bonuses that's not as out of reach as you'd think. Reportedly Mee is on 55k a week. Given goal and clean sheet bonuses can amount over 1k each and survival bonuses are a lump sum tied to league position it's not a huge gap.
If we're able to sign Defour I'm sure we could also sign Shaqiri if he was interested in being a starter each week. I'm just not sure he has the attitude or fitness to track back enough to ever be a player that Dyche could fit in our system though.
At Stoke if things weren't going their way he would fade from games and look disinterested.

Why does signing a right back for 8m seem realistic when we desperately need wide players and have a limited budget?Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 7:41 pmPersonally I think Baldock is a realistic signing that would add to our squad

Re Baldock because hes a wing back who can provide opportunities for goals by attacking with pace.
Matt Lowton can but encouraged to sit back rather than push on.

For those saying Shaqiri L’Equipe are reporting Lyon have agreed personnel terms of 350k a week with the player.
However this is based on being able to get him for next to nothing from Liverpool

So that's 75k a week in GBP. Not that I think he'd ever come here. I do however think we could stretch to that wage for the right player.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
We paid more to Stephens and Brady combined last season. £75k p/w on 1 really good player or £40k a week to 2 shite ones.superdimitri wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 9:23 amSo that's 75k a week in GBP. It doesn’t work like that though does it?
Once we sign a player on higher wages than our current highest earners (Mee and Tarky), their contracts will state that they will also get paid that much.

Precisely! and if anything we need to try and reduce our wage bill, but that's tricky when we're also hoping to improve our squad, it's a delicate balance that somehow needs to be struck.ClaretInLeeds wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 11:56 amIt doesn’t work like that though does it?

Possible, but far from certain, I wouldn’t say. Mainly since I can’t see the club agreeing to such clauses at the time they were signed.ClaretInLeeds wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 11:56 amIt doesn’t work like that though does it?

Tarks would be expecting similar (or more) to sign a new contract and Mee needs a new one too, so even if such a clause did exist, I suspect we’re only slightly prolonging the inevitable in any event.
Seems to me that Dyche likes quality, experienced players whilst Pace wants us to develop the academy and bring more players through. In my mind the way to marry the two is to pay a core group very well and then rely on the Academy to make up the numbers.

There's zero proof that is written in their contracts, there's literally no chance our club would agree to that with multiple players and if they did, why does Tarkowski earn less than Wood?

I think it was Terry and/or Lampard at Chelsea who had them and Messi, I can't recall anyone else.
All that usually happens is agents use it as leverage in new contract negotiations.

I think technically any club & any player are under no obligation to reveal how much anybody is getting paid, it’s treated usually as personal & quite frankly nobody’s business apart from the said club & player, the figures that are often mentioned are usually ballpark & subject to certain conditions being met, target driven if you will such as a striker scoring a set amount or a goalie keeping clean sheets.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 12:50 pmThat's quite rare I believe, for players to have those clauses.

I'm not sure they have a clause like that. That seems more something like Ronaldo or Messi have rather than our players but I guess we will never know for sure.ClaretInLeeds wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 11:56 amIt doesn’t work like that though does it?

I think for the right player we would go for it and could afford it. I do not think other players earning a lot less would be an issue if the new player deserves it. Using Shaqiri as an example everyone knows he's a quality player with international experience. It's a benefit to them that we have better players.. and even more the case with our wages being heavily bonus based.
The problem for us is we just can't seem to attract players who are better than what we currently have. Part of that will be down to relegation clauses and agent fees rather than wages.

Unwilling and/ or unable. They don’t have any money. They are will just be increasing debt created by Garlick extracting a huge amount of money from the club after many windows of little investment by him.
They will look to increase revenues but I can’t see how they are ever going to repay the debt unless they sell to a benefactor. They will carry the debt and service it until they sell it on IMO. There is probably only so much debt the club can service even with increased revenues. I appreciate the window is not closed but if it ends like this it is difficult to see how the club is in a better position than it was pre take over.

I don't think they have the cash like other sugar daddy owners do. Sadly for us we were never going to attract a rich billionaire owner..but that could work out to be a good thing in the long term.

They are “not willing to invest” in the same way that I am “not willing to invest” in a larger house…. Neither of us have the money. Boss Hogg has nailed it I think. I’m hoping somehow we can still get a couple in before the window shuts .

Interesting to see how Palace have progressed this window. They had an ageing squad, with a number out of contract , but have brought in some good first team players, as well as recruit a new manager. I am also sure they are not finished yet in the window
