That's an excellent fee. More than we could have expected.LongsideClaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 1:36 pmZaroury to Lens confirmed by Sacha. €9m plus 20%.
Was told earlier in the week he’d been gone imminently.

So that’s Berge, Gudmundsson, Zaroury, and Al-Dakhil who all appear to be leaving imminently and then O’Shea, Benson and Weghorst who can’t be too far behind that.
I have to say, if the incomings are going to priced similarly to Humphreys, we might have been better hanging on to a few of those.

I am really struggling with all these departures. Yes we need to reduce numbers which should be the likes of Twine, Mcnally, Obafemi, wout and others that already left. But if we are after recouping some money why don't we just sell our 100 million player whoever that was

9m is excellent for a player who gave us half a good season overall and failed at Hull.

I’m sure there were posters on here laughing at the idea of us making around 150m in sales this summer, with all the out going’s we won’t be far of that figure
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I’ve got a running total on my phone of sales (and VK) plus potential (ones that LC has mentioned) and it’s sitting at £130m right now.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 1:59 pmI’m sure there were posters on here laughing at the idea of us making around 150m in sales this summer, with all the out going’s we won’t be far of that figure

100%. Few of the rumoured outgoings so far will have a material impact on our first team this year.Flying Without Ings wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 1:57 pm9m is excellent for a player who gave us half a good season overall and failed at Hull.
O'Shea, Odobert and Berge will, but we seem to have done ok without the latter and have targets to replace the former.
Now we need to sprinkle in a few unknown gems for cheap, and the business model can continue to work well.

The panic by some is a bit weird.
We have sold 2 players who would have been first team starters up to now. Every single person knew the squad was too big and we had to lose a fairly high number of them. The idea we can just sell the ones a poster doesn't like and bring in good money while keeping the top ones in demand probably happens on some football manager game on the Xbox but doesn't in the real world.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
So another summer of chaos in the transfer market, but a necessary one given how bloated the squad was. Even with the potential players still ear marked to leave we still have a strong squad that should be more than capable of promotion.
I'd like to see another forward added, one comfortable playing from the right. Going in to the season with just Vitinho and Redmond doesn't give me too much confidence.
If we can keep O'shea then even better but sadly with the links to Worral you would presume that means that a deal is expected to happen. If he goes to Wolves then I'm sure that will go down well with West Brom!

One point here I think it's important to mention, I like others gave O'Shea a hard time early last season for his poor performances - he's come on leaps and bounds since then and now like the majority on here I'd like him to stay and will be gutted if he leaves.
Perhaps that's an attitude change we should all consider adopting when supporting other players who aren't at their best. Trafford immediately springs to mind. O'Shea is proof that players can improve and we should be backing them.

Once O’Shea , Traff, Berge and Amdouni are confirmed I guess we’ll be able to see what net profit ( if any ) we’ve made on our outgoings after replacements. As we had an actual player surplus and hit gold with Odobert , I’d imagine a reasonable surplus . Though we’ll clearly not be replacing like with like so asset value will be an interesting comparison .

Of the players that are departing, only really JBG, O'Shea and Zaroury worry or disappoint me. The rest are basically either players who should alwahys have been expected to leave (Odobert, Berge) or squad players who were always vulnerable to being moved out to create space in the squad (Benson, Twine, McNally, Obafemi, to some extent Al Dakhil). We needed to thin the squad and that was always going to involve some ruthless decisions.
But those three players are a surprise to me. JBG I suspect is a surprise to the club too. O'Shea was (is) a player I was hoping we'd build around, and Zaroury I think had great potential to be worth more than £8m one day, even it is a good profit here and now. Zaroury leaving deprives us of depth and options out wide, and O'Shea and JBG were leaders and experienced players within the squad.

The depth out wide thing is clearly something they are sorting out given links to Sarmiento, Sanchez, Anthony and Kebbal. Confident they will replace Zaroury / Benson. I mean there’s still Tresor and Agyei at the club.claretspice wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 2:13 pmOf the players that are departing, only really JBG, O'Shea and Zaroury worry or disappoint me. That sounds way over the top to me. We spent about £120m last year, and had more than that in revenue from the Premier League.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 2:10 pmWas told Saturday we needed to make £100 million this summer in sales to balance the books.
This year we'll see about £60m from parachute payments (guesstimate)? I can see needing to clear £60m, but not £100m.

A signing I'll never understand. Kompany pushed and pushed to get him in the summer but couldn't get the deal through. Signed him for less in January but then, even when he was shuffling the team after promotion was confirmed, he never gave him a start.
