I notice Dyche was very complimentary about his former captain at an event last month.

He always is. The players and the media manager were less so.

Shackells return as a derby player was one of my favourite and most enjoyable games.

It was for Lukey Juke & Ashley Barnes as well.
First Burnley game after the launch of Up the Clarets so my first match report for this website, suitably titled Ram-Shackelled

At around 60mins he began his campaign to try and get sent off. Luckily the referee worked this out and made him continue ....

Nearest he got to the Premier league with Derby was his Sky subscription.
Ok now Paul ?

Can't fault the lad, was a great player, shame like others he got offered a better contract away from Burnley, something we are geting used too.
Also we are getting used to players not quite thinking they are as good as they think they are in claret and blue

Good luck to him though, I was dissapointed when he left, but goes to show we are way better when players move on.
So maybe people should relax on the Mee front and wait to see what happens.,,,,,

A good player for us but a blessing in disguise when he went.
Ultimately it made room for Keane and the rest is history.

Apart from the 38 appearances for us in the PL.

Also I know it was crap the way he left but ultimately the club would not do the business.
Same as Mee for me .... I hope we don't end up hateing all the players we won't pay, cause I think this journey will only end up getting worse.
I'm fine with the club letting players go as long as we have a long term plan. the club has done well in the past but I don't see the point in being bitter with the players that have played well for us and that can earn more money else where, there is no loyalty in life or football,

Was Shackell not very well liked by the players while he was here then or was it more the way he left that turned them?

Both played a role in our upward journey and I dont harbour illwill towards them.
They will get another club and could probably do a good job in Div 1

While he was here. I was told by more than one person at the club that he was very aloof.

Nothing wrong with being aloof IMO, he was clearly very professional and focused whilst here, and ultimately very successful. The fact Dyche still respects him so much is testament enough to this. After all, he was here to captain and lead the team, not for his banter.
Both players are good pros and did their jobs for us well.

Hi,
That Shackell looks like he could do a job for us, possibly a replacement for kev long. Maybe worth a look.
Cheers, haf.

No - he can't even get in a Derby defence which features Keogh for God's sake.

Excellent player and captain for us. Played a huge part in that promotion AND win over Blackburn.
Moved on for more money and at the time what looked like a better opportunity. Cant blame him for that. It all worked out for us anyway.
Was as good a leader on the field as I have seen for us.

It was bloody funny though when he came back with Derby......and Barnes on Clarets Player was hilarious....

I always found it strange that he came here under Eddie Howe at a time when we were having to reduce our wage bill having just finished our first year of parachute payments from Derby who I would have thought had more largesse than us and then left when we had the first season with parachute payments and got more dosh from Derby.
Can those in the know explain how Derby were less well off and offloaded Shacks and then we were less able to pay him what Derby offered?

Definitely not. And I don't think Dyche enjoys signing d***heads.

1. He came here because he'd upset their dressing room and they were happy to sell him. We were happy to meet the price and Howe was happy to install him immediately as club captain and meet his wage demands.
2. When he returned to Derby they offered him a lot more money than we were prepared to offer. He had one year remaining on his contract and -so I heard- effectively downed tools. So we took the cash and sold him.

He's certainly not a Dyche type player, either, so could never see him coming back.

Didn’t Shachell have some “off the field problems” at Derby resulting him leaving them?

"off the field"
"in the bedroom"
"in a teammate's wife"
I've heard many rumours but that's all I know of them - they're rumours. The only thing I'm certain of is that Derby wanted to sell him to us when they sold him to us and Derby wanted him back when they bought him back.
Best if we just draw our own conclusions.

Did us proud.
Scored against B'tards.
Nasty towards Edgar in one match I saw. Made him a bag of nerves.
Could do a job for Burton...I heard a rumour he had gone for one.

Was knobbing someone else's wife, or they were knobbing his, not had it confirmed either way.
When said person left club he went back.
