Racist Burnley Fan banned for 3 years

A 58-year-old Burnley fan who hurled racist abuse at Premier League player Marvin Zeegelaar has been banned from all football matches for three years.

Jonathan Embury launched the foul-mouthed tirade during a game Turf Moor, after Zeegelaar, who plays for Watford, tackled Clarets player Steven Defour and was sent off.

Embury swore, repeatedly used the "n-word," and yelled: "Get back to the jungle." He then did monkey noises and shouted: "Send them all back. Get the British National Party in power," a court heard.

Prosecutor Mrs Alex Mann told Burnley magistrates that the man sitting next to the defendant was so distressed by what he described as the "horrible" racist comments towards the Watford player he reported the incident to the police. She said: "The witness says "He (the defendant) was shouting very loudly so that other people could hear them. I was extremely upset. I was too scared to confront him. I didn't want to cause a scene. Another member of the public said something to him. The man, who appeared to be on his own, was looking angry and stressed."

Mrs Mann said Embury was interviewed by police. She went on: "He expressed remorse for his actions and knew his actions were wrong, saying he would do anything to make things right." The prosecutor had told the hearing: "The defendant has pleaded guilty and this is his first conviction. It's a real shame, bearing in mind particularly the nature of the offence as well." Mr John Rusius, defending Embury, said: "To say he's very ashamed of what happened is very much an understatement."

BFC always used to give automatic life bans for anyone convicted of a football offence (rescindable later if you keep your nose clean in the meantime, depending on the offence). Do they still?

Crowd abuse is not longer tolerated but we used to be as bad as anyone when it comes to that.
The longside spout would see us thrown out of football in today's day and age and back then everyone put up with it and even joined in
I am not going to highlight the crass chants but we all know from that era what all the mud slinging was about

I heard racist comments on more than one occasion last year from people in or around where I sit. I didn't report them because I wasn't sure how much proof I'd need to have, and in all honesty didn't want the hassle. Very much a cop out I know, so well done to whoever did report this moron. Sometimes the guff that gets spouted is so mindless you have to laugh. My favourite was a guy that used to sit near me and routinely screamed soundbites he'd clearly heard somewhere else. Every time the ball was coming down the opponents left he'd yell 'all left, HE'S ALL LEFT', despite it fairly often being an obvious right footer playing as an inverted winger.

How can someone this stupid make it to the age of 58 without a single previous conviction? I can;t imagine anyone saying those things loudly and in a crowd, I strongly suspect he is having some kind of mental breakdown or has CJD or something. No rational person would say those things, even drunk.

BFC did and it was downright ridiculous. I am aware of one supporter who turned up at the turnstiles worse the wear for drink and was refused admittance by the police. He was taken to the police station where he accepted a caution. Burnley Football Club banned him for life. They did agree to review the bans after a period of time but rarely were they rescinded.

Things changed when the ground safety office retired and his replacement doesn't approach things in the same way.

Football terraces where not a nice place to be in the 70s and 80s thankfully people have moved on except people like the dickhead this thread is about,always a few loose cannons about,haven't heard any racial abuse at the Turf for many years.

You don't hear a lot nowadays, but I think most on here will unfortunately have been aware of comments and chanting by the odd individual from time to time, though I must admit that I don't think I've heard anyone recently in the category of the racist moron in this case.

I remember once hearing someone racially abusing Junior Stanislas before he took a corner for us. I couldn't see the bloke in question but Stanislas responded with a great cross that we scored from. Some absolute melons in our fanbase at times.

We had the situation at Bradford City a couple of years ago when Andre Gray got involved after Burnley fans racially abused one of the Bradford City players. One of them received a warning after the player reported him and continued so was removed from the ground.

Just found Gray's quote after the game. "Well done to the two racist Burnley fans, still live in the stone ages I see. It’s all right, you’ve only got two black players playing for you anyway.”

I can only once remember hearing racist abuse in my life on the turf and that was in the late 90s. I was about 10 years old, something along the lines of "black rat" I can't exactly remember it.

If I'd have heard what was said in the op in this day and age, I'd have honestly thought I was hearing things. Never seen anything like it. Should be banned for life
