That last ditched tackle was something else. I actually shouted and cheered louder than a goal.

He does so much good work in the heart of our defence SD might have been right when he said he could play CH.

I watched on BT Sport and they showed a stat that said (I think this is correct) 65% of our foreword movement was up the left side, with only 15% up the right side. I guess the positive figure is due to Taylor and McNeill, however I did think we have to improve down the right. Bardsley and Gudmundsson seem to be a bit more aggressive when they play.

I am not very knowledgeable about football, but personally I think we were more successful when we passed the ball, rather than the 50/50 chance of long balls or headers.

Anyhow, it was a terrific night and all deserve praise!

He’s absolutely superb and has been for quite some time now.

I thought he was the MOM last night. Put in a great shift and effective at both ends of the pitch.

One of our best players now. Really grown into the team. That tackle on Martial was absolutely perfect.

I suspect that Lowton and Hendrick had been instructed to stay deep to nullify the threat from Williams and James, who were dangerous on the Turf. Jeff basically went and stood in front of Williams every time he got the ball. Good setup by the coaches to make up for us being less skilful on our right.

I thought Taylor had an excellent game though.

The tackle he made was also very brave, could have been a penalty if he hadn't got it inch perfect. Credit to Martial though for not crying for a penalty like many would.

One thing about the right side, is that due to Taylor and McNeil on the left, there has to be a balance. If you have both sides pushing up it can leave you exposed.

Super defending and attacking. Great energy.

I like Charlie and that tackle was superb and his overall game last night was excellent. There is a but though - he will always be hampered as he has no right foot at all, he was also frequently beaten by Wan Bissaka in the first half last night, that lead to a number of chances for them. I think England is a long way off but would love to be wrong

MMhh- **** bissaka did get a few crosses in from the left but i wouldn't say he frequently beat Taylor, I thought Taylor did a really really good job of defending and offering support going forward- hes loks very assured and composed at this level............ Its his composure that stands him out from other Burnley players IMO>

CT was the reason all Uniteds forays down the left came to a halt and went inside, making them generally play narrow against our 2 CBs. Noted on commentary how narrow they were last night. Suits us all day long.

Had an excellent game last night and gives us that attacking threat which in turn restricts their full back. He is fast becoming a class act and if maguire is an england international then there is hope for anyone.

I think you are confusing him with McNeil. Wan Bissaka never went past him once.

Was excellent last night, and has been for the most part in each game he's played - but I don't think he's anywhere near the England team just yet

He’s our most improved player by far.
The tackle was sublime.
He is very quick.

But:
Contrary to an opinion on the ratings thread he is not better than John Angus or Alex Elder. That is ridiculous beyond belief kind of like saying Wood or Barnes are better than Ray Pointer......
He also lets crosses in too easily at times for me...this could easily have lead to Man U scoring first last night and possibly a different result (this is why I gave him 9 and not 10)
He is not international class yet...but if he keeps improving you never know

None of the team from the sixties would get in a League One team these days the fitness and skill levels are totally different. Not saying they wouldn't if they had the benefit of today's training and facilities etc as they would have comparable skills to develop - but as a straight comparison they wouldn't have a chance. You only need to watch a full game from past decades to see how slow and lacking in skill most of the players were comparatively.

They stood out compared to others in that era but the rest is nostalgia.

Nostalgia ? We still haven't replaced John Deary !

Hopefully we can find a right back of similar quality and our back 5 will be finished for the next 4 years at least

Nonsense. So how about George Best, Pele etc. If anything it is harder doing some of the stuff they did on poor quality pitches etc. Just because they play in different eras doesn’t make them lower standard now...sorry but that is just rubbish.

He is Excellent for us. That tackle on Martial...! Not sure how he would be with another center half next to him as it does look like Mee is constantly talking to him when I've been watching them and some of these big time England players don't seem to do much of that judging from last night. Current form though he definitely should be considered by Southgate.

Thought his “yellow card for the team” when he stopped Greenwood was worth some praise as well because if he was thinking of himself and not stopped Greenwood he would probably have scored and there would have been a nervous ending,

Their basic skill levels are comparable to the best players today but as athletes they are nowhere near. And you look at some of the defending on the clips of Best when he was dribbling, its almost pub league standard. Agree about the quality of pitches (and footballs) though Messi wouldnt be able to do what he does with those.

Regarding Charlie Taylor I agree with all the praise, seems to be one of our top players almost every game and has done that for the best part of a year.

I find myself agreeing with krbfc !!...In that I think 4 of our back 5 are absolutely superb and we just need a high quality right back to have an real top quality unit. Charlie Taylor was superb last night , as he so often is, and it was a touch baffling to see Erik the Viking preferred to him earlier in the season. Yes he is one-footed, as is McNeil, but a good lefty is always handy.

Taylor was injured at the start of the season / pre season and Dyche said was a few weeks behind rest of the team. This is is why Pieters played and because he played well Taylor had to earn his place back which he did.

At no point does that mean SD thought Pieters was a better player than Charlie Taylor.

Nothing to see here - we have a brilliant left back for £7m and a good experienced back up left back for £1.5m. Man City meanwhile have a dodgy left back for £55m and spent another £50m on reserve left backs who Pep doesn’t rate enough to give any of them 2 games in a row !!!

Thought taylor was superb last night although actually I thought that for all the last ditch tackle was wonderful, the opening occurred in the first place because Taylor hadn't tucked in enough.

But that's a minor gripe with what was a quite wonderful performance. Of course hes one footed and occasionally that will get him in trouble, as it did in the reverse game at Burnley . But the composure he showed time and again last night to know Mata was never to close yon down and so take the extra time to find a pass, was first rate.

Does anyone seriously think there's any value in comparing Taylor with Alex Elder?

Reckoned, how can you describe the likes of Jimmy Mc for skill and Ray Pointer for endeavour, not up to the standard of Div 1 players of today. You appear to have never seem them play making a suggestion like that. Pointer always ran tirelessly for 90 mins in a game and scored some goals that appeared to be lost causes doing that. He was the modern striker, in as much as he pressed defences when they were in possession of the ball, which those days wasn’t expected of them.

all before my time, I can tell you he is better than Joe Jakub and Ray Deakin though!

here's hoping that the next young defender we get is given a more understanding development period on here than Taylor was - he was given absolute dog's abuse by some that are now praising him - players need time to adapt/develop - we will never afford the finished article and have to suffer those growing pains with them, but with some understanding

He’s actually class. Big powerful runner. Offers a great threat down the left, especially linking with McNeil who is less powerful but more skilful. A right footed version wouldn’t be a bad signing...

Can never remember Taylor getting any stick ? Certainly not on the ground .Give or take the odd mistake he was up and running pretty quickly imo and has grown into his role really well
