The Bournemouth match

3 points today only moved us up 1 place. However, a win against Bournemouth could possibly move us up 2 or 3 places.
It’s not going to be an easy game, Bournemouth have a relegation fight on.
So all eyes on next weekend. Your predictions?

The pressure's off after the last few games. Not a chance we'll be going down now, so I think we'll play with a greater confidence and freedom so I expect to win and win well 2/3 nil.
PS. Hope we see more of Vydra, even if CW is fit.

Might not be Arsenal levels but they’ll be plenty of rolling round in the long grass.

Lots of Burnley fans are now expecting us to beat Bournemouth which is dangerous. I think it will be a really tough game and if Burnley aren't 'on it' we'll get beat.

The 'intensity' has got to be there in any game we play. Any showboating or 'oles' and we risk being rolled over.

We need to front up to this bunch of mincing southern tarts. Give them a real beefing and turn them over in true Burnley fashion.

This won't be an easy game, believe me. We will need to play to our strengths with everyone being mentally prepared. I'll go for 5-0.

Any team can beat us.
We can beat any team (maybe not Arsenal but that is down to prem needs and the gods).
If the players are looking up, like they did in 2009 and when we qualified recently, then they will be saying to each other....we can do this. Europe for a professional footballer, is a great achievement. An accolade they will all want.
We will then all believe and unite in the quest.
Any other thought and we become sitting targets.
I fancy another Euro trip, with the Mighty Clarets!
I do think we will be prepared with knowledge learned, too.
Up the Clarets!

Agreed.
I thought we’d beat Villa and Palace at home and look how that turned out.
Complacency could undo us here. Hope Dyche keeps the boys grounded and they’re up for it.

We could easily have been complacent yesterday after our three previous results but we weren't. I doubt SD will let it happen against Bournemouth, I think he'll want this one with Eddie being ex Burnley.

I strongly suspect that we will never beat Crystal Palace at home whilst Hodgeson is their manager and the have Wilfred Zaha playing for them. Hodgeson has Dyche’s game sussed and uses Zaha’s pace and skill to great effect against our rigid style.

Without that soft pen Wolves equalised with we’d be above them. Folk are raving about Nuno and his team.
No gimmes in this league. We don’t want to show up expecting a win like we appeared to do against Villa.

Watched them against Villa a couple of weeks back and they were terrible. I couldn't believe they won the game. Expect a competitive game, but think we will edge it.

I thought it was a penalty yesterday at first glance. Saw the replay and it really wasn't one "we got away with". Yes it strikes his arm, but he hasn't moved it towards the ball, neither did he attempt to make himself bigger, so no penalty

There's absolutely no doubt that it would have been a penalty had Lee Mason been in charge. I can see him now with that inane grin on his face as he quickly pointed towards the spot. Had it been given, then I doubt VAR would have over-ruled it, so in that sense I suppose we got a bit lucky.

Yeah, but that pisses me off as well, it the laws of the game, so surely they aren't open to wild interpretation. If there's only one ref out of 20 who sees it that way, then they are clearly an outlier and need retraining

Ben Mee handball. This board would be in meltdown if we didn't get that.

Can you explain how under the laws of the game that was a handball? It’s irrelevant whether this message board would have been in meltdown, which I doubt it would. It was never a handball and that’s why the referee didn’t give it and the VAR took about 5 seconds to concur.

I think you probably missed my point there. I'm not suggesting that Mason would have seen that as handball had it been against any other team, but against us - no doubt.

Had the penalty been given ... I very much doubt anyone on here would be disputing it ... my problem is when the "Sainted VAR" awards penalties that most certainly are not ... so perhaps VAR was re-addressing the balance for dodgy decisions the other way.
But who cares we won and did our 1st double over Southampton for 73 years

and the 1st one of the season ... lets make it number 2 next week v Bournemouth, and 3 the week after at Newcastle

Who knows what the laws of the game regarding handball is. I've seen perfectly good goals disallowed for a 'handball' in the build up to it and blatant handballs not given. I suppose it depends whos on VAR duty

Goals being disallowed due to handball aren’t relevant in this case as we all know that any contact between the the ball and hand of an attacking player in the build up to a goal is penalised. The ball hitting Ben Mee’s arm is not handball and never has been.

Where were Mees arms when the ball hit him? Down by his side? Or outstretched?

I’d have disputed it. It was never a penalty in a million years. Didn’t think so at the ground and definitely didn’t think so after watching MOTD.
