I thought it was odd that we offered him a new deal after he seemingly left because he wanted to be back home , or I may have my wires crossed there?

And maybe we offered him a deal in order to get a fee for him?

Surely he’s not coming back ? Although I thought he had something about him .

It's a long time since we saw him. When I last saw him play he'd reached a level beyond the under-23s and needed to play first team football. I was somewhat surprised we offered him a new deal though.

Strikes me as they’ve either got an agreement in place with him to sign so we can get a fee from an Australian club, or he’s coming back which would be a total surprise I’d imagine .

Wish he was here now with Cork out. I'd think he'd have to be a better option for the subs bench rather then a 3rd keeper.

Benson was on the bench against Sheffield United , hopefully see what he’s made of if needed

We had only one goalkeeper on the bench against Sheffield United alongside two central midfielders

I’ve not really seen him play here in Oz. I noticed he had a couple of MoM performances for the Mariners according to some reports.

If he does think the A-League is best for him, then he will never make it at Turf Moor. The standard of the A-League is poor at best.

I went to watch an A League game last year, I know it’s unfair to judge a whole league after just 90 mins, but it was League One level.

It was Sydney v West Coast Mariners.

Burnley revealed recently that he’d been offered a new deal at Turf Moor but he could still remain in his homeland with Melbourne City keen to either take him on loan or sign him permanently if a deal can be agreed.
He'll be making an important decision right now. If he thinks he's up to playing in the premier league now is a great opportunity.

I know I'd be trying to use this to my advantage in his situation but I also don't know how well he rates himself and what he reckons Dyche makes of him.

My guess is a lot of the younger players don't really feel like they get proper chance in the first team and I suspect he might be one of them.

Which of our youngsters have you seen play that you would guess are sat there thinking they should be featuring in the 1st team and in place of who ?

I watched Aiden play in March. They played the Melbourne team owned by Man City’s owners.

Technically he stood out, but then he always did at Burnley. However, his passing was very much sideways. It wasn’t really incisive. The pace of the game is completely different to the English leagues and there isn’t really a pressing game in place. I would say it would be a big culture shock being dropped back into the top 2 divisions in England having spent a few years learning your trade in that league. A move to Melbourne may be best for all parties.

Oh and if you think our referees are poor..... this lot make them all look like Pierluigi Collina.

That's being generous. The A League had some good years in the early 2010s but it is dire now.

I live less than 10 minutes walk from where Brisbane Roar play. Would take a lot of motivation to walk that far to watch an A League game these days.

At least with the lower leagues in England, the stadiums are the right size. Watching the Roar with 5000 people in a 50000 seater stadium is a weird experience.

Did I read it? No I just took a stab in the dark and guessed what it was about.

I watched the opening match at the Paramatta Stadium, there was 17,000* in a 30,000 capacity stadium, The football was... not good and the atmosphere was very plastic. Goes to show when one of the prolific strikers in the A-League is Adam le Fondre (remember him?). I can understand Aiden O'Neill playing for Brisbane I suppose, but I can't see how a Premier League player can really develop with that quality of professional football.

I watched a Sunday Supplement type of show the morning after, and the journalists just tore the A-League a new one. From what I took from it, the League is not picking up enough traction compared to the other sports and they agreed there's 'no market' for high-level soccer in Australia.

*I reckon it was closer to 12,000

I didn't say anything about them being sat there thinking they should be featuring. Just that the know chances are very slim.

I saw both O'Neill and McNeill play in a pre-season friendly at the turf.
O'Neill caught my eye more than McNeill. Shows what I know.
But would like to see him back here.
