Summer transfer window signings sticky

I've added the sticky at the top given that some transfers have already been confirmed. I've got just 15 clubs in there for now, those whose place in next season's Premier League is confirmed. I'll add the others once we know who they are.

I suspect Burnley 0 will be there for a while, it usually is.

I think we will dawdle about as usual, waiting to see how things pan out because we don't have a clear strategy going in and we don't have a fixed transfer target list with multiple options.

Towards the end of the window we will pounce on the scraps that have been ignored by the other clubs, thinking that it is the best way to get value.

That strategy fails to take into account -

A) Prices go up at the end of each window as clubs get desperate

B) Options decrease meaning you are more likely to buy what you don't really want

C) Clubs are less likely to sell, because they have little time left to replace the players they lose

D) Everyone knows we need players in the next window, so they will price gouge us if we are still looking in the final stages.

I think we will have lots of very unhappy posters but will end up with a few unexciting signings which turn out to be quite good. Others will look enviously at Leeds, WBA, Fulham, Sheffield Utd, Watford, Brighton, West Ham or a gaggle if others... then at Xmas we will be saying thank God we didn’t waste our money on their summer buys.

I think we might be saying why did we let Hendrick and Lennon walk out of the door

More transfers for the sticky

Man City

Yan Couto

Leeds

Helder Costa

Arsenal

Pablo Mari
Cedric Soares

I'm not sure what the club could have done to stop Hendrick & Lennon walking out the door, both were ooc and didn't want to sign new deals, so we are powerless to prevent them leaving, i'd have like to have kept Hendrick at least, but that's modern football, and we won't be the only club losing players for nowt as they run down their contracts, all the power is with the players these days.

I’m already glad Hendrick isn’t here. Brownhill would not have got his chance if he was. I don’t think we need too many bodies. If Brady and or JBG is fit most of the season we will have more or less the same strength squad as we’ve had this year even before we start.

Lennon  !!!

Hendrick, yes. He was a very good reserve, forced into playing nearly every week because of Gudmondsson's injury. If Gudmondsson, plus two of Cork, Brownhill, and Westwood remain fit, then Hendrick wouldn't get a game next year anyway. But with Gudmondsson likely not to remain fit, a reserve like Hendrick would be useful to have.

But Lennon? We don't need both him and Hendrick.

Even if it remains at 0, this run weve been on shows as long as the magician is here anything's possible.

Surprised to see Marc Pugh released and QPR wanted to keep him, maybe if we can get him in and maybe a defender in with any fee we get for gibson, we will be ok. We dont need any first teamers as such.

GK - Pope / BPF

RB - Lowton / Bardsley
CD - Tarky / Long Mee / Gibson/ another
LB - Taylor / Peiters

RW - JBG / Brownhill
CM - Cork / Westwood / Brownhill
LW - McNeil / Brady

ST - Wood / Vydra / Jay / Barnes

Pugh can also cover RW or CM, so would leave us with 2 players per position, plus the kids who have been on the bench recently, had a taste, and will be a year older.

Loads of wages saved with the departures of Hart, Hendrick, Lennon, so should balance the books excellently for next year even with the covid hit.

And we will have posters trying to defend what will be yet another poor transfer window and think use the 4th division days as a justification for not spending.

Yes, year after year we have to listen to half the board saying we're doing fine, and the other half saying we're not doing fine and we should have transfer windows like Stoke, West Brom, Aston Villa, Fulham. Hull City, Bolton, Portsmouth, Watford, West Ham, etc etc etc.

The evidence suggests that the teams who have had better transfer windows than us, cumulatively, over the past few years, are:

Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Leicester, Man United, Wolves, Sheffield United, Spurs, Arsenal.

And the evidence suggests that the teams that have had worse transfer windows are:

All the rest.

If our transfer windows have been so bad, how come we're looking at a 5th successive PL campaign come September, the board and management must be doing something right.

Perhaps we should take the same approach as Fulham & Villa, remind me how are they both getting on again.

My thoughts are that we need 1, maybe 2 new additions, but nothing major. We certainly don't need to be going out and spending £30 million.

Perhaps a replacement for Gibson and a RM, due to Brownhill being a central midfielder, and JBG too delicate with his next injury only a matter of time.

Think we are weak at RB. Lowton has been poor this season and Bards is getting to the end. Need a good young attacking RB
Surely Gibson is going or has gone. Doubt Dunne is good enough yet. So certainly need at least 1 more CB.
Think Brownhill will play CM maybe in place of Cork who will drop to bench. So we need another RW although Brady can play there

In a perfect world we need RB, Back up CH. Back up RW
Bench would then look something like BPF, Bardsley Long Pieters back up RW,Cork Brady plus 2 strikers . Looks strong to me

This should be a window for buying future potential. A young CB to replace Gibson. A new RW/RM. Perhaps the most important position to strengthen having lost Hendrick and Lennon. I'd like another CM too if Dyche isn't prepared or ready to give Benson a chance. One spare midfielder in Brownhill isn't enough. I would have said a new RB with sell on potential but now Bardsley has signed i can't see us targetting that position.

Was just thinking precisely this.

If you want a signing or two you are accused of being hell bent on destroying the club, pointed in the direction of every failed transfer policy in Premier League history and reminded of the Orient game and or the collapse of ITV Digital.

There is a middle ground.

Unless Dyche has some of the youth team players in mind, I think we probably need a right back, centre half and a winger.

Nothing major and probably only the right back needs to be good enough to immediately pushing for a starting place.

All of the above assumes no key departures.

No new signings needed for me.

Even with an injury list as long as my arm we've lost one in 15.

Go again with what we've got if no departures.

Barnes, Cork, Taylor and Lowts coming back will freshen things up as needed.

We have lost a keeper and 2 players + Gibson

The club need to replace the 2 players. The keeper, maybe not, if there is faith in Jensen.

If we get to Europe, then early acquisition, for integration, is a necessary ingredient.

I think anyone who wants an influx of 5 or 6 players will be disappointed. I suppose it depends on what suitable freebies are available from Championship and lower Premier League clubs

In a perfect world I would like to see a new CM so we can rotate and keep the others fresh, plus I thought Brownhill did ok at RM so can be used there if needed. If you look at our play, we don't really use wingers anyway. It's rare that we take anyone on and get to the byline so I think we're fine out wide with what we've got. Another CB is needed. Long is a great servant but we need a 4th choice. As stated above we will also need a new RB soon with Bardsley ageing and Lowton being inconsistent. We're in a good position for strikers and keepers which is nice, and two good LBs.

A couple of additions and we'll be fine

The decision not to give new expensive short term contracts at the restart to players wanting to leave has surely been fully vindicated.

If everyone is fit we have a strong squad, I think we need to concentrate on buying some strong youths, who are ready to step up if needed. I'd make them cover for the players at the end of contract or getting on, so a RB, a CM and a Winger. If any of the U23s are ready to take that step, all the better.

Pugh? Seriously?

And I agree with whoever posted about signing younger players in this window even if it is just 1 or 2.

In my opinion the younger options would be a right back and a central midfielder.

Although overall I think we need the following -
Central midfielder
Right back
Centre half (Keane,Tarks conveyor belt)
Right footed winger

I think this is a decent idea of what we should be doing. A back up centre back and goalkeeper should be very cheap acquisitions and cost no more than hart and Lennon did anyway. A right winger is where some money should be spent as JBG and Brady are ridiculous with injuries. We aren’t asking to break the bank, and neither is Dyche, he just needs backing to fill the squad to guarantee a strong enough squad to compete next season.

Steddyman is obsessed with the transfer window so he can use it as a stick to beat up the club with. I don't think he bothers too much with the games we play. :D

Might be tough attracting a decent centre back. The better players want to play. Think we need either a promising youngster who is happy to be a squad man for a season till Tarks probably leaves or an experienced pro who is winding down. Good enough to fill in when needed but not bothered about playing every week.

Not sure why you would want us to sign a player though who hasn't kicked a ball in the Premier League for two years and hasn't featured much in a poor Championship side.

Just could fill 2 positions as 4th choice for both, and I suspect very cheap.
He might jump at the chance to come nearer home.
We dont know how covid could affect the figure we have to bring players in.
Certainly worse out there.
However wasnt aware its 2 years since he played in this league , thought it was last season tbh

Hi guys.

I’m in full agreement that 3-4 new signings are a must this summer, we don’t need anymore than that.

RB, RM and CM are a must, CB a maybe but not sure who’d be a suitable 4th choice.

Bardsley is coming to the end of his career, Lowton needs long term competition, there’s some free agents out there like Nathaniel Clyne and Jeremy Ngakia, either one of those would make shrewd business. If not then dipping into the Championship for a young upcoming talent might be the way to go, Jayden Bogle of Derby is a name I’d look at.

Right midfield is a must, especially with Lennon gone and Gudmundsson having injury problems. Gudmundsson needs competition anyway, regardless of injuries or not. If Forest don’t go up, I’d take a look at Joe Lolley, 9 goals, 7 assists this season.

Then with Hendrick also gone, a versatile midfielder who can play right and central is something I’d look at. If Watford go down then Will Hughes would be a great addition.

Didn’t get a game in first half of last season and then went to Hull for second half of 2018/19 season. Pughy has done well but he’s not going to get a club in the top two divisions unless he’s lucky.
