Hopefully re-showing all of them. (but will the Beeb? - I think they should)

Always worth a watch regardless.

From memory I can maybe see "Basil and the light switch" getting chopped.

Maybe the odd line from the "Germans"

Anymore?

I think it was just the Majors bit talking about the cricket that got removed.

Its hard to work out who the snowflakes really are with how upset some people get cos a few scenes in programs get edited to be more in line with the more tolerant and inclusive world we live in these days.

They cut a racial slur delivered by the Major a while ago, despite the context of the line.

More like overly tolerant and all inclusive.

Watched a couple the other night on possibly Netflix/Prime. They’ve stood the test of time well but a good flashback to that era. One of them was a bit shocking in terminology but people learn more from it by keeping it in imo. It was from a different time when different things were seen as acceptable. Why chop and change it so we can pretend things were different. Just put a warning up about the language etc and people then have a choice whether to view it. Oh I forgot it’s the BBC.

I know we're struggling to make new programmes due to the Pandemic, but re-runs of a seventies sitcom?

Things really are bad. They've been showing them on GOLD for years. It'll be Del boy and co next week.

In each episode the Hotel had a different anagram name on the signpost outside the Hotel, ‘Flowery Tw@ts’ was the only true anagram.

Not really much to do with the pandemic. These sort of programs are just not being made anymore, period. I can find hardly anything entertaining on tv nowadays. Possibly the worst thing I’ve seen a snippet of lately - and that was literally all I could take, a snippet - was something consisting of a multitude of drag queens on prime time Saturday evening. I mean, it looked that bad and extremely offensive to the eye.

I take your point about the drag queen show, but it's easily avoided. However, I can't believe we'd be showing repeats of fawlty towers, if the restrictions weren't in place.

Well I bought the boxed set, along with many other DVD’s, at the beginning of the pandemic last year as I was worried that these would be cut to threads for future viewing and I have to admit to only watching two episodes so far. The thing is that they are all over in a flash. They seem so short. Perhaps it’s my age, I don’t know.

By today’s rules, Alf Garnett could upset every ethnic minority, including Liverpudlians, umpteen times in every episode.

Life must be fun in your house. Throughout history nothing has ever stayed the same. Hating everything about modern society is quite a miserable mindset to be stuck in. Some people make themselves unhappy because life moves on and they don't.

I'm very happy with my life and my home is a happy. I just can't be doing with blame culture, compensation culture and off with their head culture. So I choose to ignore it and if that makes me a snowflake then I guess I am. We are supposed to have freedom speech but you can't say boo these days without offending someone.

We do have freedom of speech, more so than most of this world's population, and people have the freedom to be offended, if they so wish. I would not let it bother you.

One of the things that "some people" objected to was Manuel being a Spanish idiot. Presumably that hasn't been cut, or they wouldn't have a lot left. I think that objection is overruled when they realise that the rest of the cast are all English idiots. (Possible exception of Polly - but only possible. She wasn't the brightest.)

I suppose a Manning fan would be likely to be fuelled by blind prejudice against anyone who isn't "just like them". (And, of course, by blind ignoarance about where the Cambridge Footlights were based.)

This is what they do on Radio 4 Xtra - and some of the language etc sub text etc
Is Far Far More "extreme" with current context.

I' wish I'd not started this thread. It was not meant to spark an argument.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want to argue pick a point regards sexism etc...

Pick the One Show tonight !!!

It starts with with the views of Fiona Bruce regards Woman and male abuse verbal or other ................
Followed by a piece with F' Bruce and Alex Jones fawning about men - (happened to be men in Army uniform) giving Vac' Jabs,

... Now if this had been a man talking this way about a woman ..... Job Gone

To Be Clear - I was not offended - but I despair about the way "Media" is going .....

I don't think it would be far from the truth to say 'The Goon Show', of which Milligan was a key component, was the show that spawned the zany type comedy such a the Carry On movies and later, Python.

Best situation comedy of all time IMO.

I can't remember who it was but I think it was an actor who once said that Fawlty Towers was Perfect and Flawless.
The acting and the timing could not be faulted

Well they might then have to remove the sign to the hotel at the start of programme. As you have probably noticed they make an anagram from the name. One I recall was Flowery Tw@ts. That will have the perpetually offended sobbing into their recycled hankies.
