Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
I think he'll be in good hands with Nigel Clough !
Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
Looks to me like another player who has no chance of making it with us but who might leave for a fee. In a way, these are quite depressing transactions

Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
It's good we are getting to the level where we can make some money on the occasional youngster. Anyone we happen to get in the first team like McNeil is a bonus but it's far off being the norm.
This is one of the reasons watching youth football is tough now. It's very hard for anyone to make it in our first team and there's a quick turn over period where if they aren't considered good enough they are soon shipped out. It's not like it would be if we were lower league.

Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
Clough is a good friend of Dyche too and Nartey played for him at Burton
Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
Is that it then? No more loans for our youngsters? No loans to our partner clubs. Where does this leave the likes of Thomas, Glennon, Mancini, Thompson and Richardson?

I guess the benefits of working with a manager like Clough must outweigh the disadvantage of playing at a lower level than Nartey did previously.

Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
It's probably a promising sign to be honest. These loans often mean we've given up on players. Development of those players is probably deemed better at Burnley.
May have been different if there were some better teams interested, but you aren't going to develop players with quality by loaning them out to poor leagues.

How does Harry Kane fit your analysis? Or closer to home Jay Rodrigues?

Don't waste your time, dimitri knows more about youth development than anyone on here, hence his non stop criticism of pretty everything in the youth set up.ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 9:38 amHow does Harry Kane fit your analysis? Or closer to home Jay Rodrigues?
Would love to see his CV working in this field, must be fairly impressive.

Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
Might have been at one time but definitely not the case now.
Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
He played 25 games for Burton in the 19-20 season, so it’s a bit disappointing seeing him going on loan to league 2 now.

Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
Played in League one 2 years ago so this is a step down which is surprising but playing league football is much better than Under 23 level
Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
22 and deemed maybe good enough for League 2. Hardly promising, is it?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 10:12 amMight have been at one time but definitely not the case now.

Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
He's clearly never gonna make it with us in the next season or so. Give him a chance to get in the shop window, get some more experience and get a deal somewhere to start climbing his way back up the leagues. If we can get a little fee for him then all the better.

Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
We wouldn't have offered him a deal had it not been beneficial for us. It might be another for whom we get a fee.diamondpocket wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 11:10 amHe's clearly never gonna make it with us in the next season or so. Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
agreed. We have finally got the ball rolling with the youth setup & U23s and for all the negligence in the first team transfer setup under the previous ownership for the last few seasons at least they have concentrated on this area of the club well. We seem to have got a steady flow of promising young players who they see can develop into footballers at whatever level, even if it isn't with us in the long term. All these fees add up and can make a nice little contribution to a club like ours and if every now & then a Jay / Dwight can come along, as the law averages say it should, then we should have a bright in this aspect of the club.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 11:27 amWe wouldn't have offered him a deal had it not been beneficial for us. I think he looks like a decent, young, strong defender. He may have some potential

Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
I think this is a very good move. Get him involved in first team training and give him games. Far from writing him off I think this demonstrates a good no risk benefit for all involved, with the cushion of another years contract beyond the loan.
Great to see the club working like this. I think the lad could well have a long term future at the club and for those writing him off I simply ask on what grounds…. Working for a manager whose experience in the lower leagues and developing teams that can go on to success? A player getting first team football who at best was likely to sit in the stiffs for a season? Or that our staff are busy integrating first team members into the squad for the next season?
I wish him well and look forward to him returning a better player.

I assume you made this comment because you know something we don't regarding how the club view Nartey's potential?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 10:12 amMight have been at one time but definitely not the case now.

No. I have an understanding as to how our academy is set up.superdimitri wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 5:47 pmI assume you made this comment because you know something we don't regarding how the club view Nartey's potential?

I'd encourage you to take a look at the amount of players teams like Chelsea and Arsenal release every year - it's truly staggering

Re: ARTICLE: Nartey makes Mansfield loan move
To be fair to me, the reason I repeat it each time is because I always see people each time get their hopes up making posts along the lines of 'good move for him, clearly has some promise'...with false hopes thinking a player into his twenties is going to break through to our first team. I think the days of that happening when we loan players to such a low level are long over.
It would be different if he was off to a championship team. As much as we all want someone to make it into our first team squad we can't fawn over loan moves to poor opposition when the player is already of an age where if he was good enough, he'd already been in our first team.

Success rate from 9 years old to pro contract is about 0.5%.
If this figure is correct we are doing better than average!

He's now a regular Ireland international, with around 40 premier League appearances and a regular matchday squad player.

Does that work out at 5 games per season?IAmAClaret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 9:02 pmKevin Long went to League 2 (Accrington Stanley) at 22.
