He's a good player though and fully fit could prove to be a good player for us.

Hopefully he’ll now actually be able to show us all that he is still half decent at this level.

Dyche also said "We've got a different minded board now, more openminded.

"We want players to come in wherever they come from. If life is settled off the pitch then they settle well on the pitch."

Some people always assumed it was Dyche that was unwilling to take a risk on signing players from abroad but from that it sounds like it was the previous board

From the BBC:

Burnley boss Sean Dyche on new signing Maxwel Cornet: "Maxwell is on his way in. We'll check his fitness out and see how he's feeling. He had a bit of a dead leg but it's nothing serious."

Hopefully. Spreadex would have to offer some pretty incredible odds for me to put a bet on it.

Yes, £45 for the half zip or £25 if you prefer the tee shirt, listed as Coral not orange.

I don't think we even know what the injury is, can't recall any details ever being given.

After all the awful puns about him signing, it's a pity they haven't joined in and given him the 99 shirt in that picture!

"Cornet" translates directly to French (with the French pronunciation obviously) so he's probably heard it a million times before in Lyon.

It's worth bearing in mind, for everybody. :)

I know some on here are interested in these things. Looks like we are £1.5 million in profit on Dale Stephens, bought for £1m, valued according to FotMob at £2.5m. And, that's a guy who is 12 months older than when he was signed already in his 30s - and he's spent a good deal of that time injured.

Let's be honest if we could have found a club willing to pay £2.5m for Dale Stephens in the last window, does anyone seriously think he'd still be a Burnley player.

Good news that he, Kev Long and Roberts are all hopefully going to be available for selection soon, if we're going to start climbing the table we'll need all hands on deck.

I'd still be releasing Stephens come the end of the season, he's on fairly hefty wages by all accounts, he's 32 now I believe, and we need younger legs in the middle, however if he can show some decent displays when or if he finally gets a run in the first team, then It'll be good for us and him, because right now even on a free many Championship clubs will be reluctant to take a punt on him, so if he wants to ensure he gets a decent gig next summer he'd better start showing why we decided to sign him.

Looking forward to seeing Roberts, this lad will be exciting I sense, and we need other players apart from Dwight & Westwood to provide assists and service to the strikers.

"Dale Stephens is making progress as well"

It's fast becoming Dyche's most used phrase and every interview seems to end with these words. I'm expecting it to appear on a plaque at Gawthorpe soon.

I hope we do see him at full fitness as there's a useful player in there, regardless of what the majority think. Especially if we do play with a 5 man midfield again, I can see him playing the Graham Alexander role in front of the back four.

How defensive do you want to go?

A defensive midfielder behind two already defensive midfielders?

Best we can hope for Stephens is that he is a good character who adds value in training and that we dont ever need to use him in an important match

You could play McNeil central, with Cornet and JBG on the wings, alongside Westwood who is decent going forward when given license.

I think that would mean playing Stephens in a defensive 2 with McNeil in front.

But a 5 would suit and improve all our midfielders so I'm not sure Stephens will get in barring injuries.

When fit there are more options for the squad but it depends on the manager being a little more flexible, I suppose.

Why not just play brownhill or cork there? The only way stephens gets in the first team is injuries. That’s not a dig at stephens, just saying he is a back up.

I thought he looked a good player against Fulham. Composed with a decent pass on him. Certainly good to have on the bench.

I was thinking along the lines of the 08/09 team with Stephens playing the Grezza role and McNeil playing the Elliot role (who sat alongside McCann (Westwood!) in midfield. McNeil reminds me of Wade in terms of how good he is travelling with the ball.

I don’t necessarily have him as forth choice. I think it very much depends how Dyche sets up. I can see Stephens playing a sweeping role, where he will get more time to control our play and mop up the space between midfield and defence. I think he has the ability to be a favourite for that roll of required. Be nice to see how he is once fit.

To be fair, we haven't seen enough of a fit Dale Stephens to know if he's good enough or not.

Sadly it is possible we won't ever see him playing well for Burnley but I'd still wager we'll get something out of him.

He's clearly a true professional and clearly hasn't yet stepped on the field for us without carrying an injury.

Excellent news re: Roberts ,hopefully see some game time in Oct would be fantastic . While we’ve a long way to go in squad quality it’s excellent to see we’ve viable injury cover right across the park . Cornet and Roberts should add some much needed slightly younger legs

Dale Stephens is a decent player. He just needs a run of games to show it.
