Sky help

I wonder if any of you can help me? I'm considering leaving Virgin for Sky. I currently pay just over £100 for full Broadband and TV/Phone but no sports or movies. I also have multiroom.
I've looked at Sky and Sky Glass and it looks like I can get the similar package for around 60/70.
Does anyone have Sky Glass? Is it worth it over normal Sky?
I presume I would need a BT line and rental?

Personally I would not go for Sky Glass but opt for Sky Q. The Glass TV's don't have an inbuilt tuner and so if you leave Sky in the future you will need a freeview box in order to get the basic channels.

Also, Q records directly to the box rather than storing in the cloud...just my two penneth.....but I am sticking with Q for now.....

Cheers for that. I was leaning towards SkyQ . I too wondered how it would work if I ever left Sky. Bit too gimmicky at the moment for me too.Does it require a BT line?

Q still needs a BB connection in order to get the on demand content. Doesn't have to be BT and you can talk to Sky about their triple play with is TV. BB and talk....your switch from Virgin will not be as seamless as if you were moving from another OpenReach provider but Sky can provide the line as well. Also, depending upon your location you may be able to get Fibre to the Premises, thus you don't need a physical landline, you use VOIP

Agree with what was said above - I wouldn’t go for Sky Glass.

I currently pay £110 per month (should really try and get it down to be honest) I get sports, movies, Netflix, internet and my phone (8Gb of data).

You defo need to call them.....does that include a handset or SIMO for your mobile?

A slightly different package to Jambo (we have TV, SKY Sports, Netflix, Fibre and a never used Landline) and pay £100.

Is that about reasonable or should we be getting it for less?

As some of the lads know I work on mobile now but I would reckon that should be about £80 without multi room....make sure you are not paying for a calls package on your landline, Sky don't charge landline separate now unlike BT, it's bundled...

I recently (November) did the merry dance with Sky. Got the signature TV package, Netflix, Sky Sports, HD pack, and fibre broadband. £70 per month.

If that's the case, Virgin have had your pants down.
Look up my Sky v Virgin thread from October (ish).
I had their ultimate package which was superfast BB, a million channels, anytime landline, all Sky Sports, BT Sport, SKY movies, all in HD, multi-room, plus an unlimited sim card, for £99 pm.
I left it till 2 weeks before the end of the contract and got EXACTLY the same deal for £94 pm. Only difference is I pay £70pm to Virgin and £24pm to O2. (They obv have some kind of symbiotic deal with O2)
Wait till your contract''s nearly up (last month), phone to say you're not renewing, ask to go on their "month's notice" list and you'll get put through to "retentions dept". Then you'll get a proper deal.

I have taken my sports and movies off..before that it was £155! I've just looked and it's £115 now. Like you say I think they are taking me for a ride and why I am looking towards Sky to reset my costs by being a new customer...although I was a customer in the past.

I currently pay 55 for Signature, sports, movies, Netflix, ultra hd, Q with multiroom. Then 21 for super fast fibre with talktalk.

I ring both companies up when my deal ends to drive the best deal, I give 30 days notice to end my contract if I need to.

Claretdiver: my mum has sky q with the extra box. She has bt internet. Her q box in the bedroom keeps disconnecting. Sky say equipment working, bt say sky and bt dont always work together. Bt are sending out a new modem.

Ive the same set up but have no problems.

Any advice?

Why do these companies keep flogging landlines? Does anyone use them? Surely it’s a waste of time, money and resources?

Is there a genuine reason?

It must be 15 years since I had a landline.

There are safeguarding issues in some cases and in others there are issues in providing other equivalents for broadband. For example, one of the questions that Sky ask when selling broadband is that if a customer loses power/internet do they have another way of contacting the emergency services such as a mobile phone with a good signal. It's a duty of care....

This is a common issue when using third party providers with Q multiroom. The new router will hopefully solve the problem. In many cases customers who have this issue have legacy equipment that needs updating.

By disconnecting do you mean losing internet? My extra box is temperamental in the bedroom but it’s a distance from master box problem. I get an on screen message to buy sky’s signal booster. As we rarely use it in the bedroom and it works perfectly in every other room we haven’t bothered so can’t advice as to its effectiveness.

Just been on the phone to SKY and managed to negotiate my current package down from £110 pm to £59 pm with a free SKY Q box and superfast broadband thrown in for 18 months.

Sounds like a great result to me - getting a service you want for much less than you’ve previously paid.

This banging on about paying three buttons and a used crayon each year for IPTV makes me laugh. All seems to be too much fannying around to me, unless I’m missing some great service that actually does deliver 4K tv with no lag at all.

It’s not as much fancying around as it use to be when it was all kodi based - most are basically download an app to firestick and log in.

I use it mainly for the sport but do have access to all the other channels but we do use Sky for those

Yes it can go down on occasions (the Everton Villa game I just watched went off but was back on within a few mins) and I’m currently watching the Leeds Newcastle game

For what I pay for it and what use I get out of it I can’t complain

Which do you use, Wilks (if you can post it)?

I’d happily use one for the non-televised games if it was easy enough to use, but certainly not to replace SKY etc.

If you are happy with the service from Virgin then see what they can offer.

A family friend ( this was only last week ) was paying £117 for phone, broadband and TV and was not happy with the price although they had been with virgin since day dot basically. They contacted BT to see what they could offer and was quoted £77 for a similar package.

Family friend contacted Virgin to give the 30 days notice and explained she was leaving due to price. They asked what BT were offering and she told them .......... Virgin replied we will give you same package as now + Sports for £55.

She ended up staying with Virgin on a 18 month contract.

Might be worth a phone call but do a comparison first.

When I worked on the TV/BB side of Sky, the majority of customers I had to deal with were customers who had let their contracts lapse hence all the in-contract offers had ended.....multiple customers had been paying over the odds for months because of apathy....once they called up they got a better deal!

IPTV is useful for watching Burnley away games live if you are not attending. It’s just like being in Tenerife or Spain with Bein TV.
Only thing is, just like abroad the stream is one minute behind the actual time so don’t have any alerts set up on betting sites etc. I bought it purely for watching BFC, and will be watching it tomorrow as logistically I cannot attend the Arsenal game.
