Another good day out spoiled by a very bad result. I’m finding it hard to keep going with my support for Dyche with his team choices and tactics. Cork should have played, Jay should have started, McNeil needs dropping.

Cork not starting is baffling. Dyche has got that badly wrong, Westwood has been awful this season

There should be no down time in the next 3 weeks

Shooting practice, free kicks etc

Practice Practice Practice

I’d hope they’re doing that anyway for 50 grand a week.

I've missed the last two at Brighton & Palace so was really looking forward to this one. I'm not one to question Dyche but I'm surprised Cork hasn't got back in, We're also missing Ben Mee, our most important player, and Erik Pieters. But we should not have lost that game.

Looking a very bad decision not to get Mee off immediately in the Leicester game.

Pieters has been a big miss. I think it's time Lowton comes back in too

I was talking to a bloke who regularly watches the training from a lane in Padiham whilst out with his dogs, the set piece drills are repetitive, the main thrust of the stop and start sections tend to be crosses from Cornay and Dwight towards the edge of the box, crosses from Lennon and Brownhill into the box.
Obviously not a full picture but it doesn't surprise me.

No it'll be framework, defend, framework, defend.

That and coaching any attacking talent out of our forward thinking players

Absolutely-and a total appraisal of the oppsition, even if its City. We obviously dont do things like that as seen with Brentford. Corners and long throw ins to be on the agenda

Fully agree about Mee-he is missed, but up to the 10 minute of destruction Tarks & Collins were outstanding. I still think with Mee in we would have lost. AS for Pieters, Taylor not at his best right now

Watched live on tv and it never looked like we would score. It just needed 1 chance for them to win it. The goal was simply awful defended started by Roberts and Lennon not putting any pressure on Eriksen and compounded by Collins losing his man who I have to say had been in Collins pocket the whole game. Sadly games last 90 mins not 85.
Mee is a huge loss not only because of his own input but also that his absence means Tarks has to play left cb. After today’s farcical goings on at Elland rd we could be left high and dry after the Man City game. But Everton seem to be as bad as us so all is not quite lost yet.

"the header was baffling"

It looked like McNeil had never headed the ball before. So many elements of his game need work.

Lowton is slowly turning in to a world beater

Don't think anyone thinks that.

I definitely think Roberts has been disappointing though

Yes definitely an odd looking ground, what struck me was the lack of corporate boxes which is unusual in this day and age.

Good alehouses near the ground, Bell and Crown and the Steam Packet, getting away on the train from Kew Bridge was much easier than expected as well.

Not at all, just that Roberts is struggling

Agree about the bizarre shape to the ground/stands, but it will be because of the odd parcel of land they used and I guess land in west London isn't easy to find or cheap. It's sandwiched in between 3 major railway lines and I suppose wasn't particularly desirable for residential building or much else. It totally lacked atmosphere too though and until the goal I heard no crowd noise whatsoever from the home fans and even when the goal went in it was very low key.

There was a clamour to get Roberts in the team and his athleticism added something short term - but to be fair to Lowton he hadn't done a lot wrong - it was just that we had a quality alternative in that position - which is not the case at for example RM, LM and CM

Forgetting City would feel much more confident with a Lowton/Tarkowski (on the right)/Mee/Pieters back four going into the last 10 games

Something under Dyche that we have been very good at, which we have now lost:

The ability to win must win games......

To win any game of football you need to be scoring goals.

Indeed the old Burnley would seldom lose to the teams below them and more often than not beat them. I suppose that hasn’t changed this season the problem is there are only two teams below them.

Agree CT. I just cannot get my head around Cork being dropped to the bench. Two things really concern me about Dyche and his staff right now, the first is his dogged insistence of playing certain players every game regardless of their form and our results, and second is his inability to change (in a timely manner) during a game.

It’s cost us time and time again, fans can see it, but he and his staff somehow don’t. He gets paid the big money to manage this, and right now I do t think he deserves his massive rewards. Just my opinion and a lot of supporters on this board will disagree with me, but hey ho.

This plus contriving to lose them too. I sadly believe we are done for this season

That doggedness, stubbornness, call it what you want, is also a strength that he has. At the end of the day, the players we had on the pitch in that game, against that Brentford side, should have won.
