'...None of Corey Brennan, Tremaine Eastmond, Lukas Jensen, Lewis Thomas and Harry Williams, who are all still listed as Burnley players by the club, are named in today’s release...'

what does anyone think the reason or significance of this is? :?

Was it just Mee and Tarkowski of the released first team squad that were offered new deals?

Jensen's got his eye on a testimonial already.

The good news we've got several high earners off the wage bill, the bad news we've somehow got to fund replacements.

But a large scale reset is long overdue, as the present squad was clearly on it's last legs.

And now we've removed the deadwood the promise of new signings will hopefully mark the start of a brand new era in our history.

I will defer until start of the season when we should know which of our contracted players have been sold and which new players have been bought or loaned. By then we will hopefully have a new Manager and coaching staff !!!

That’s how it reads. They’ve singled out Tarkowski as a player who had opted to leave but not the case with Mee.

Well, it can't be that he just isn't wanted. Was he on too much money and we just guessed he wouldn't take that much of a cut? It really doesn't make sense to just offer him nothing.

All appear to be out of contract this month, maybe they've indicated they'd sign a new contract but haven't done so as yet?

Any surprises for anyone off the list?

A small part of me wanted Dyche to have a reset like we have had today but he was to set in his ways.
It's going to be bumpy but interesting watching it all unfold as the season progresses.

I thought they'd hang on to Lukas Jensen ahead of Sam Waller.

If Mee wasn’t offered a new deal, it’s bordering on insanity!

A leader on and off the pitch is surely just what we need. It sounded, throughout last season, that a deal had been offered / discussed, so for him now not to have been offered a deal doesn’t stack up.

If he hasn’t been offered a deal, it really is like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Maybe the new manager wants a different demographic. Mee, Pieters, Bardsley, Stephens and Lennon are all over 30. Ben Mee will go down as one of our greatest players in the Premier League era but as has been pointed out, in the past 3 seasons he has missed a chunk of the season through injury.

Personally I hope one day we see Ben back at the Turf in a coaching capacity one day.

Mee not being offered a deal and Dyche leaving with more or less ALL the backroom team implies to me that Kompany had been in discussions for quite some time. May be wrong, but I can’t see some of those decisions made unless a new guy was lined up who had made his feelings clear.

I think we all know Kompany will want defenders who can play out from the back, though my own view is that Mee’s leadership and solidity could have been vital.

How many of those were age related injuries as opposed to the sort of injury that anyone can pick up? His latest was a fractured bone.

You’re right, Kompany may want a different demographic but that doesn’t quite tally with Rodriguez, Vydra and Cork (discounting Barnes as I think it was in his favour).

Surely, surely that’s because he’s indicated he didn’t want to stay.

Mee leaving is the only one that didn’t sit well with me. I thought he owed us at least a year more.

Ben Mee turned down a two year offer from us according to Chris Boden:

‘James Tarkowski will leave for a Premier League club, with Everton pushing hard for his signature, while Ben Mee is also expected to stay in the top flight, having turned down a two-year deal at Turf Moor, having been at the club since the summer of 2011.’

This is from his article on Barnes renewing.

Seems like we offered him a new deal but he decided to move on, probably with several PL offers on the table.

Ben Mee owes us absolutely nothing as far as I am concerned. He seldom, if ever, left anything on the pitch and if anyone sums up the Dyche-era in terms of the on the pitch activities it's that man, alongside Tom Heaton.

He wasn't prepared to drop a division and take the cut required

If we had stayed up, Mee would have signed on again.

He will be looking for one big final payday. He's 33 in September, rumoured to have been on 65/70k with us. I imagine he will have been demanding a similar wage. He's had injury problems at the end of the last 3 seasons. On a new deal with Burnley he would have been highest earner. Would he be able to play in 46 games next season? I'm not sure. It's sad to see him leave but I understand the decision not to renew. I just hope he gets a decent send off by the club.

Tony stated that he'd been told by someone he trusted that a deal had been agreed with Mee, but he's never said one was signed

Maybe it was initially agreed but Mee changed his mind due to an offer from elsewhere, or the new manager wanted to let Mee go, it could be a variety of reasons.

We'll never know

Ben Mee and Burnley football club were a brilliant partnership whilst it lasted but neither side was obliged to carry it on for any longer, that's just how football/business is.

As much as I like Mee, Collins is the future and with Kompany rumoured to be bringing in a City centre half on loan, it may have been the case that he was told he could be bench warming and Mee might at his age not wanted that.

No we don’t but CT is referring to how it was written which says that Tarky rejected a contract or words to that effect and nothing for Ben Mee. So this suggests that Mee wasn’t offered a contract more likely it is yet more poor communication from within the Club of I’m honest.

The stability served us well for a long time, but I don’t think you could call it successful based off the last two seasons’ showings.
