"Some Preston fans were crying and ripping up match programmes, so distraught were they at Jay’s goal."
Ahh, there's a gif that will hopefully get a welcome return to prominence! Brought a smile to my face
Congrats to Jay on reaching this milestone. He is a True Claret.

Fair play to Jay, that is some elite group he has joined.
Some classic names on CT's list including all five of the forward line that won the Division One Title in '59/'60, just further evidence of how good that team was. They scored a remarkable 466 Burnley goals between them (Connelly 86, McIlroy 116, Pointer 118, Robson 79 and Pilkington 67)......Just for good measure, when Pilky was sold to Bolton in 1961, his successor Gordon Harris weighed in with another 69 goals.
George Beel at the head of the list with 178 goals from 316 appearances, but Willie Irvine's 78 from 124 starts is unlikely ever to be bettered.

Never realised how many Sam Vokes got - it does show that in the modern era how all our managers have had to deal with having our main goal scorers sold from under them.

I consider myself very fortunate to have seen 20 of the 29 fifty goal list score at least 1 goal. Never realized how prolific Jimmy Mac was ( and all in the top level I think ) George Beel must have been one heck of a goal scorer. That’s one record that will never be beaten.

Be interesting to know how many of Mac's goals were from the penalty spot.
In terms of assists, for which he was most famous, the number will be off the scale. My recollections are one or two virtually every single game, at his peak. He simply was the best of a very good side.

Great player and seems very humble.
I was surprised to see Andy Cooke on there. Great for us but didn’t realise he was so prolific in front of goal for us.

Jay has shown this season just how a clever and natural a footballer he is. Adapting his game as he gets older and clearly Kompany has a great deal of confidence in him. Between him and Cork we have two really smart intelligent footballers who I think have been integral to this squad gelling as quickly as it has. He also still has goals in him at this level.
Well done on the 50 goals Jay, hoping there’s plenty more to come this year!
