Really hope this move helps Obafemi. I don’t believe any player can be judged on odd appearances here and there. I also find the idea players can solely judged in training as difficult. Many a game changing forward failed to shine until ‘performing’ regularly for his audience.

Surprised they are sending him out on loan as he’s one of only a few players who is not afraid to shoot on sight in our squad.

I disagree. A just turned 21 year old who has scored 1 goal outside of the Norwegian league? Obafemi has played over 30 games in the PL and scored 15 in the Championship at just over 1 in 3.

Sevilla are the calibre of club who wanted Fofana on loan. Sevilla are fourth from the bottom and not scoring goals either so I think it's a bit of a punt for them as well....
Fair play - Fofana had a 'mare at Union Berlin fell out with the manager and came back.
Seems an odd one to replace a signed 23 year old forward with a bit of pedigree with a 21 year old loanee who has scored 1 goal in the Bundesliga in 17 games. But what do I know I've never seen him play.

It's a fairly mute point. He's scored just over 1 in 3 in the Championship. We had him on loan signed him for £4 million and now are purportedly replacing him with some one who has had a mare in the Bundesliga and never scored a goal outside of Norway.
I mean if we can't figure out how good a player is when we have had him on loan what chance do we have of figuring out the King of Norway who got recalled from Union Berlin?
It just all feels like a bit of a punt on a very young player.

Agree with this. Goodluck to him. Had some niggling injuries, but not given much of a chance when fit.
That's Weghorst, Bastien, Churlinov, Twine & Obafemi all shipped out less than 12 months after signing. It seems less buy and develop, more buy and cross fingers. It's hard to form an identity with a squad of ever changing faces.

Obafemi does not have the profile to replace Foster as a leading number 9. Fofana very definitely does (I’ve seen him play) and is a far better option than Jay. We look a different team with that bit of pace and channel running up top imo. Let’s hope he fits in quickly. They're not all going to pay off but even this type of signing probably won't give much of a loss (and still a possible profit if he does well at Millwall).

By their manager’s own admission Millwall were “poor in every department” last weekend when easily brushed aside by QPR. The Lions only mustered 2 shots at goal during the whole 90+ minutes. Hard to imagine them making any sort of push for the play-offs.

I’ve never understood those on here that claim Obafemi was ever a backup striker for Foster. Foster is a back to goal striker who can hold up the ball and run the channels alone.
Obafemi, if he is playing up front, needs to play in a 2 alongside someone else who can do the hold up play whilst he runs in behind.
Note that any time Obafemi has played for us (which is rare) he played more wide (usually as a replacement last season for Tella)

It depends who you believe. It's also reported that we tracked him for a period and had multiple bids rejected but it's a fairly mute point.
We are in the PL and the point being made was that Fofana is a replacement for Obafemi. In effect, we are taking a punt on a 21 year old player who has scored one goal outside of Norway, had a 'mare in the Bundesliga to replace a player with a bit of a track record in the Championship and some experience in the PL.
In the meantime, we are taking a punt on Obafemi playing well at Millwall so that we recoup some or all of the £4 million we paid for him. If he doesn't play well then we have likely lost most of it because the market only valued him at £4 million after scoring 1 in 3 and a bit at Swansea and it took a club with parachute money to pay it. Outside of the clubs with parachute money £4 million is a big fee in the Championship.
But I agree they aren't all going to work out but you would think someone like him could have had as much of an impact as say a 34 year old Jay Rod and perhaps been given more of a chance.
I guess if Fofana plays, and does well then it's a good move.

What baffled me with Obafemi was the fact that once promotion was secured when Kompany started to give other players an opportunity he still didn’t start a game.

If we are going to be a club that commoditises players we can't be in the business of paying £4-5 million for players who are simply not given a chance and loaned out to mid ranking Championship clubs like Millwall who are 18th in the Championship.
By all accounts, and I don't follow Millwall, they paid £2 million in the summer for a 26 year old Scottish striker who has plays for his country and scored 1 in just over 2 in the Scottish Premiership.
I know not every player works out but the way we've gone about this is baffling.

Definitely, and if the model is to turn a profit on everyone, surely we are going to fail in this approach with a lot of players. Totally agree that it’s baffling. He came back from surgery as far back as the Arsenal game but in general has hardly made the bench. Swansea wouldn’t budge and Obafemi’s form and attitude deteriorated according to his manager (Martin).
When we beat Swansea 4-0 at home at the end of the game VK was seen with his arm round Obafemi talking to him.
Guess when the opportunity to sign him came around again at a much lower fee VK was still interested and by that time Martin wanted to cut his losses as he was not picking Obafemi at all.
I still never understood why we went in for him again though given at that time we were flying and pretty much promoted. We also had bought Foster and had plenty of strikers. In his fleeting appearances Obafemi looked like a player who had played little football.
I suppose the only blessing here is that we did not pay £10m for him in the summer. Hope he does well at Millwall though purely so we can get our money back if we sell him. The lad Bradshaw at Millwall looks a better player so would not be surprised to see Obafemi on bench
