Clubs we have always took good followings to

I know away followings are often limited these days.
But we have always seemed to take loads to Bradford City.
Here's a video from 93 where we had behind the goal. All down the side (although it was only a bus shelter back then) and around 30 Clarets got moved out of their Kop when Inchy scored.
https://youtu.be/0pTnKfgol4s?si=k4MO79anT7xxFCym
I have been there 4 times and always been in the side stand, which they sold after behind the goals had sold out.
Which other grounds do we always take numbers to?

Addy Heath really was superb in his 20 goal season for us as I remember.

Port Vale on a Tuesday night in 85/6 I think. 1-1 draw and about 40 of us on the open end.

Wycombe was always a supported away day. I seem to remember going there, when we nearly had as many of our fans as they did.

considering the size of the town and often how abysmal we were our away support over the years has been pretty amazing imho, especially since the Mullen era

I remember being at Northampton on what was our last ever visit in 1999. It was the final day of the season and we’d nothing to play for.
Then the away end erupted with news of Nottingham Forest scoring at Ewood, going on to win and all but condemning Blackburn to relegation.

Back in the day, we seemed to play Crewe, York and Wrexham more than any other teams in various lower leagues and cups, did we, or is it just my dodgy memory.

What has been our biggest away following?
City one of the times that we have played them in the FA Cup?
Utd in the Carabao Cup?
Sheffield United in the FA Cup?
Liverpool in the Milk Cup?
The smallest away following I have been a part of was when we played Middlesborough away midweek in the Milk Cup. We had tonked them 4-1 in our first away game back in the old second division. It has to be 1 of the scariest grounds that I have been to as I remember their fans climbing over the fences to get at the Burnley fans during the game as well as attacking fans on every street corner walking back to the coaches. I think we took about 1500 that day. When we played them in the Milk Cup a couple of months later I reckon there was less than a hundred. Is my memory correct on the numbers we took?

Not sure of the biggest, but cup replay at Lincoln in late 70s there were very few of us, likewise Newcastle earlier in the 70s in old 1st division

Derby away in the FA cup, Sheff UTD also in the FA cup, Stockport away when our lads decided to have a fall out with the GMP & rip the fence down in to the home ends was pretty big for where we were in the league, sure it was a Good Friday night?

That cup replay at Lincoln was an awful night weather wise with quite a lot of snow about. I went on Viscount Central & got dropped off in Burnley about 3 o'clock the next morning. But at least we won.

Must have been on the same coach as I think there was only one, ended up on the big bank surrounded by Lincoln fans, don't think anyone cheered when we scored

The answer to the first question is definitely PNE away in 1972/73. Between 15,000 and 18,000.

The most impressed I was - was Leyton Orient away in the late 80s. Bit of a nightmare to get to after years in Division 4 and we still took 6 or 700 to my recollection.
Got battered 3-0 as far as I recall but ho hum...

I think that accolade must go to the 1500 Hardy souls who went to Fulham midweek during the fuel strikes.
Nobody driving down that night could guarantee getting fuel to make it back.

Probably more like 15,000 than 18,000 looking at the total gate and the normal Preston gates at the time… unless the attendance was under reported.
It’s not likely the largest though. We reportedly had 22,000 at Ewood in 1913 for an FA Cup game, and well over 20,000 when we won the title at Maine Road.

That Stockport away game was on a Friday night( 0-0) and the double decker bus we went on was certainly a lot less full coming home

I think most of us spent 90 minutes singing anti-rovers songs and doing the congo. Bizarre when you look back on it. I don't even remember the score from our game

PNE fans boycotted the game which seemed a strange thing to do given their fight againnst relegation. Burnley had the whole of PNE's end, plus most of both sides. PNE were in the away end. Maybe not quite 18,000, but more than 15,000, I'd estimate.
I wasn't really suggesting the biggest ever, just in my time. Man City away in 1959/60 must have been it.
22,000 at Ewood in 1913. I bet that was lively.

I went to this. Was stood behind John Simm on the terrace. We were robbed of a stone wall penalty when Andy Cooke was rugby tackled and ended with 10 men after Lee Briscoe was sent off for a second yellow.

Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now that’ll be the end of it.
